Something I find as MISSING in the new fishing Booster...

Something I find missing in the upcoming Booster, is expanded coverage of a potential cool thing fishing related : fishing sport competitions among players.......

I am referring to the lack of added crafting ability to "modify" fishing rods in a custom way as fishers love to do, especially when they need to participate to fishing competitions.

Like using different baits, alive or dead, sometimes fake, having various types of wheels, lines, hooks, rods and the combinations of them can affect the end result of fishing...

What I am trying to say, something which would make fishing less repetitive and boring.

Now it is going out into the sea and just click over and over and over till some fish is caught.

I would have loved to see more variables added to fishing so that players could introduce some ingenuity and cleverness into fishing sport competitions in UO and have those players more expert in fishing and its tricks be the ones to really fish that fabled fish to win the competition....

Besides, it could have been all fishing additions that could be craftable by other skills (only at very high skill, of course..) like for example the various wheels from tinkers, the hooks from tinkers or smithies, the lines, feathers from tailors, the rods from carpenters, the baits from cooks and so on. Or even require combination of crafting skills to make them....

It would give to players a lot of stuff to play with for a very good while, IMHO.

You have a good point and I like your idea, but remember that what we have seen so far is only pre-alpha. I am sure that the Dev's will add more content to what they have shown us in the town meeting.

I really hope so, because I see a good potential for lasting fun for quite a while from adding variations and add-ons to fishing rods to allow players and Event Moderators to hold variouos sporting competitions under different conditions.

We could have fishing competitions for shallow waters (fishermen would need to select the proper fishingware and baits) or for deep waters, or for local waters where some fish can only be found (needing some special baits) and so on.

It would make it for a fishing that is more varied and more fun I think.

And besides, it would bring some work to crafters also....

You also have to remember its a booster not like a full expansions. They may add so much content and not go all into it b/c that would be a full expansion if they did.

I like your ideas popps. If they want go your route of ideas Im all for it. They also could simplify the fishing and rod ideas in another way. They could make a quest which you turn in so many types of fish for each quest. Kind of like the heartwood quests. You get a random bag of loot. Now you could get various relic fishing rod makers or they could give you chances to get rare fishing rods they could impliment in the game.

I can understand that and am not sure how much coding work would it be to add variety to fishing rods and change fishing in a way that it would allow it for a lot of fun sporting competition among players.

I am only trying to say that if they want to put the effort into it, I think players will really enjoy it for a good while.....

Not only gain the ability to run fun fishing sport competitions in UO but also add more craftables to crafters !!

That is, it would be quite worth the effort, IMHO.

Event Moderators

Event Moderators can only play with the game there is........

That is, as of now, get players gather around a piece of water, click rod, click sea, riinse and repeat "ad nauseam".......

After X time see who got the biggest fish or the most fishes caught and give a prize.

That's it. To me it sounds quite repeatitive and a "rinse and repeat" activity with can get quickly old.

What I was trying to suggest, was adding variety to the fishing rods introducing various lines, various hooks, various wheels, various baits, various wood rods and have these be assembleable with varying results as to what fishes can be caught in what seas.

Why ?

Because it would make for fishing to be a sport in Ultima Online that requires thinking and training where the fishermen have to learn how to better use their equipment, their baits, in order to get best results in different waters and with different target fishes. As I think, it would make it for a more endured fun and variety which will last longer in bringing fun to players.

Not to mention, that all these added parts to fishing rods and baits could all be made as craftables bringing some new love to crafters (all crafting skills could be well involved) which is much needed....

I really do not think fishing need to be as detailed as you would like; This is after all Ultima Online, not Bass Tournament Online.
