(Player Event) Some ideas about future PvP events

Hey,

regarding the fairly poor execution of the last two PvP events (1on1 tourny, 3on3 tourny), I think a thread about future PvP events is necessary.

So here are 4 ideas:

1. Bodyguards
Two teams á 5 people fighting each other. The bodyguard team (4 players) has to escort and protect a VIP (5th member) to a certain location (in a dungeon or a street). The enemy team have to ambush and kill the VIP. Once the VIP is dead, the length will be recorded and the teams switch position. The team who managed to get the VIP over a bigger length will win.

Rules:
- VIP not allowed to smoke bomb/stealth/use any forms which allow you to run mount speed/no invis and teleport items/isnt allowed to cast telepor
- None of the bodyguards or VIP are allowed to use a mount.
- Only 2 of the raiders are allowed to use a mount (to scout and run away to rez their fellow raiders in case of death)
- No pets allowed

2. Stand your ground
One team (5 people) has to defend a choke point against 6 people. Once all the defenders are killed, the teams switch sides. The team which manages to stand the ground longer will win.

Rules:
- No pets
- No invis/teleport items
- no hiding of the defenders

3. Capture the flag

3on3 or 5on5 capture the flag. The flag-holder has to stay on his own flag for 30 seconds to actually score a point.

Rules:
- No pets
- no invis/teleport items
- no stealthing/hiding/smoke bombing

4. Organized PvP evening
A meeting of the 4 active pvp guilds (vp, pro, w, god) in front of wrong dungeon. Organizing fair 1on1 or 3on3 or 5on5 or 8on8 etc. fights. Spectators stay outside, no interruptions.

Summary:
The aim of a PvP event should be to motivate the people who know they will not win against a team/player they ll face at the event to actually take part. Frankly, this is nearly impossible...Simply due to the fact that the average player tends to rather explain his own weakness by accusing the better player of cheats or something else. The events listed above, especially number 4 (if well and frequently executed) should enable the average player to learn out of his mistakes, learn the enemy template and thus improve.
I can only ask you to take courage and actually take part at the events to gain experience.

I remember myself when I started pvping years ago on drachenfels. I ganked the **** out of the "pvp gods" at farms, thinking thats the only way I can win. But over the months Ive came to the conclusion why they were better etc...And slowly improved.

Anyway, I ask the EMs (who most of the time have no clue about pvp) to invite the PvP community to the preparation of upcoming PvP events. Dont just make a post here with 1 sentence explaining the event. Dont just wait for days before answering a question in your pvp thread.

Plus one of the most important thing regarding the motivation of people taking part: Explain the reward. Make signs at luna or yew gate or fire dungeon fel entrance of the people who won. Maybe make a house naming EVERYONE who took part.

Sorry for my bad english...

Regarding the fairly poor execution of the last two PvP events......
With the start of pointing out the actual execution of a tourny, what you would want is an event with minimum execution.
To achieve this I would suggest something simple as possible, go to a location, a monster with some drops, and open pvp.

1: The location should not be despise or yew gate cause its too common.
2: Monster with drops encourage people to come and participate in pvp / defending themselves. a strict 1v1, 2v2,3v3 event would make only attract pvpers to enter,
whereas an open pvp event with a monster with event drop encourages non-pvpers to enter aswell. Which means more people at the event and more action.
several drops means several people get reward, people are attracted by this and risk themselves in a pvp zone to achive a reward.

A few other comments:
a gate to pvp the event location there should be mechanism to prevent gate-gank upon arrival.
No monsters that calm skills, who can pvp when a monster set all skills to 70 or make you unable to cast spells for several minutes?
the only job EM has at the event here would be to make sure theres no farm-bots striking the monster with drop, we have seen this at previous events.
Give people a way to resurrect, not by adding healers in middle of the fighting area.

If you want a strict 1v1,2v2,3v3 tournament with honor you need strict rules and people tend to break rules,
which means more job for the EM to pay attention, excecute and enforce rules.
Also pre-defined rules always forget something like no pets and people show up with brute or vollems or w/e.
its harder to execute so I suggest an open field pvp event.

Thank you

I like idea 1 and I can also add a small change so that all 4-5 players actually fight, which would be to have some sort of NPC like the Great Hart from the Human to Elf quest, that you have to `save it´´ and make it walk from maybe one town to another.
The NPC wont move if there is no one by its side or if you go more than 1 screen away it bounces back or something.

Idea 3, Is pretty much like PVP bagball in a way, we can use that set up and improve upon it or something.

I can also add another idea so it incentivises people to turn up to event and that is to have a clicky drop when you reach the end of the event, say the deepest level of a dungeon or maze and have to make it back out to be able to keep it, or say maybe inside the dungeon you get an item you have to hand in to an NPC outside for some small reward, say a sash, saying I took part in the Bloodfest of so and so or something along those lines.
