lol, that was so gimp. Pets were so over powered when AOS came out. Armor was unbalanced, folks hadn't figured out how to maximize their elemental protections, and everyone was just running away from me on sight. I knew combining the lance with my pets would be deadly way back in the AOS beta, but kept it on the back burner. But eventually I decided I just didn't care and got the 120 taming scroll I needed to re-work my template. Few people at the time understood the pet control equation and that 120 taming + 20 animal lore gave the same level of control as 100 taming and 100 animal lore. I eventually found a nice guy who sold me a no penalty lance that could be equipped while spell casting.

I think that reign of terror cost me about 20k gp. :O

The downside was that I couldn't use my PBD on a fast cast ring or what have you, so my spell casting was rather bleh. I rarely wore anything better than 2/2 total and often worse. An all too familiar state of affairs to folks without a PBD or a Hat of the Magii.

Turns out there was also a bug that would have let me concuss or dismount on every attempt. If I remember right it was triggered by something like casting a spell first and then striking with the lance before something timed out ... which was often what I was trying to do anyway.

I used twin mares for their ability to keep up with me better, and fortunately not many people on the shard figured out that mares have much lower HP than dragons or wyrms or they would have nuked them and either poisoned them to keep me from healing them, or just kept me busy.

It was all the nuances of running a tamer that made it interesting to me ... oh, and plus the firepower sure didn't hurt.

It is so great to see some old familar names. Especially the CWSers but love to you all. I may hop on if they do a free week in October like they use to in the past. My twins are almost 5, the crying baby pic from my early days was Kayla she is now 7 and in second grade. I'm involved in Girl Scouts, teaching, volunteering, tutoring, all in all just keeping busy. I hop on to play any kind of game for maybe 30 mins max a day, just don't have the time.

Grot retired from the military - BIG HAPPY DANCE here! No more PCSing, no more TADs, no more WTIs, etc. We are no longer in Southern Cal but back in Virginia working on getting a bigger house, while the town house was fine with 1 baby, it is rather intimate and cozy with three children.

I can't believe UO is 14 and still kicking.

Sad to see some no longer here such as Mats or Wrym but still good to see some familar names and faces.

So when is it the free week for UO again?

Hey Dola, been a while. I'm not 'on Siege' these days, but I still lurk.

And Corwin, weren't you hanging around Yew gate on the day I tested the dismount-lance-mount mechanics? That was the start of some fun times. I'm sure I wasn't the first to do it ever, but it was new to me and the population in general for a while there.
