So i was bored so i made this...how to make one of UO's ugliest creature into a less ugly one.

die damage reduction is sweet...but it's looks simply aren't.

It's still sort of ugly...but less ugly.

Share your thoughts on this...

(Although we know it will never happen...it's still sweet to fantasize about it)

The long heavy body, six legs and heavy tail provide a nice anchor against the weight of the swamp dragon's long neck and heavy head. I say leave well enough alone!

I wish they would just give the barding damage reduction to all mounts, or at least horses. Then we wouldn't have to look at big eyesore swampy's anymore.

Obviously none of you are fans of Piers Anthony's Xanth novels or you all would know that Stanley Steamer the "Gap Dragon" is the Swamp dragon.... and he's SUPPOSED to be that way!

He's meant to have 6 legs..... he's meant to whomp when he chugs along... and he's not meant to fly but have short stubby wings... after all he's a Gap Dragon and the Gap Chasm is too narrow for large wings.

Oh Ye of little humor and imagination.... Should not play an RPG.

*sighs shaking head*

Thanks, Malagaste. I don't have as many years playing UO as most here, so I was completely unaware of that interesting background info about swamp dragons. I like them just the way they are.

Horse barding would be pretty sweet.

But then you would be able to apply it to all "horses"...including nightmares/dread steeds...

I like the looks of them in the EC but they only have 4 legs, they need to have 6! If I could have the same thing but with 6 legs I would like it better. I will post a screen shot of it later if someone doesnt get to it before i do. :eyes:

And actually, in the enhanced client swamp dragons look pretty amazing. Although I must admit, I do miss my "kampfvurst" at times...

I was never fond of the look of the torpedo dragon, er... I mean the swamp dragon. I actually wasn't fond of much of the art or ideas "From the Mind of Todd MacFarlane."

I do much prefer their look in the Enhanced Client. Would that we could get a similar look in 2d.

More huge winged creatures to cover everything?
It's bad enough to try targetting something that's being attacked by tamers and their dragons, in this version the thing would extend to warriors too.
Back to the drawing board!
:p

what about this freak then?

Although my first thought was...gigantic freak lizard...

I like the saddle... we could get saddles for other ridables... and capes for the horses (apart from barding).

or we could keep it a bit more ''real''...and just do horse barding.

Now wouldn't this be sweet?

Could be a reason to tame horses again...
I always liked horses better then all the freakish stuff we ride now.
Still don't like it that my 2 crafters have to ride beetles...would prefer a ridable pack horse/llama.

I used to tame horses and give them away for free at brit bank.
In all the possible colors.

Horse barding would make them wanted again...and it would fit better.
Warrior would look like knights on their armored steed.

In fact that should give people with 0.0 taming the chance to get a limited edition special colored horse to tame with the next invasion.
(not freakishly colored but lets say a natural color)

Wouldn't it be sweet if you could breed horses instead of plants?
(same stats , just new colors..just for fun..no bod colors tho)

But that's just dreaming and heavy wishful thinking :)

Ninety percent of my characters ride a horse. Only one PvM character rides a swampy and a few PvP characters ride an ethy llama.

I agree with this 100%. Though as you can see there are still people who would ride this pickle with legs.

Yeah doesn't look right without the wings...

But how does this look :

lol wouldn't this be a sweet replacement for swampies?
Hm.
Not enough room for the rider, he'd get squished by the wings.
And he's visually squished too, and off center(off balance), which makes it look odd.

It's the only mount that gives damage reduction sadly...
I don't see any other reason why people would ride it...

Would surprise me if anyone would still ride it if they would give other mounts barding deeds too.

Aspecialy those who farm silver in fell with sampires...it's kinda hard to NOT notice that player if they're riding a swampy...
Since it's one of our longest and biggest mounts we have.
It reminds me of a hummer...cause it's big and ugly too.

They could make it so you could only have barding on 1 slot animals to fix that.

I would love to be able to ride a barded horse :)

I'd probably ride mine, unless they made barding for ridgebacks.

Many people seem to have the odd tendency to think that things have to be pretty to look good.

a ridgeback , seriously?

Some people like pretty stuff....I can ride even more mounts as tamer..
Mounts are just for fun and for transport...if you can pick, i pick the prettiest.
I never take my mare out hunting..it's pure for the looks.
Since it doesn't have it's own personality , i might aswell go for the looks.

If had to pick between a sweet gently trustworthy brown horse to ride...or a black horse that doesn't listen and would throw me off occasionaly...i'd pick the easy going brown horse then...

The colored metals used to make the horse barding would cover the idea of differently hued horses-neat idea. I like it.

Wow. This is nice. Amazing what a simple change can do to make something look a lot better.
NO this is NOT right..... it does NOT look good and it's sad... Swampies are supposed to have 6 legs....

See my previous post... and quit trying to ruin the poor beast.

If you want to add a green Dragon/Greater to the dragons that spawn hey that's great.... but don't ruin the swamp dragon.... he is exactly like he's supposed to be.

Deep breaths...don't hyperventilate.

It does look good with the new design i think :D

Have to agree with Malag, the Swamp Dragon is fine.

If you want it to look like something else, why not just make an entirely new creature?
or at least make it a sub-species
