My mage has been the victim of the Slasher's mind rot three times in as many days. On one occasion, I played for another hour or so, then recalled home and found a remove curse talisman to get rid of the mind rot. The other two times, I didn't bother to remove it, and just continued to play. The mind rot debuff remained on my character until I logged out hours later, close to server down time; on both occasions, the next day, the debuff was gone. I have 202 mana, 120 med, LMC40 and MR18, so it wasn't a big deal for me. However, while it's a minor annoyance for me, a lot of people will be seriously irritated by this.

Is this a bug that will eventually be fixed, or is it an intentional consequence of getting within 2 screens of the Slasher?

That is not the only spell that remains in the debuff position showing 0 secs remaining. Minor spells such as weaken and clumsy often do this as well amongst others. If you are able to recast the same spell on yourself or get someone else to do it this will usually get rid of it.

It is a bug that has been with us for some time now and I have seen no indication it will be resolved anytime soon.

In all likelihood, the debuff wasn't still on, just the icon showing.

If the rot was still on? This is a separate bug.

But if it's the one many of us have experienced, it's just the display, and having the spell cast on you again, then removed, will get rid of the icon.

I get the same thing happen to me, One of my chars is a mage thief the other is a stealth archer. I always try to go from the Kings Tomb to the deamon temple (siege). When you get into the underworld head to the right through the gray goblins toward Navery. Its past where Nevell Brightwhistle lives. Just past there in another opening in the wall (2nd opening on right) where there is a fountain of life, you can rez there also. When you go into that area you will get a nice colorful beam of light and the message "Your mind feels much better" or something like that. Other than logging off if you dont have chive to remove curse that is the way to get rid of it. I hope this helps others with the same problem.

Even without the timer, I have had the icon go away, just took forever.

Also, if you log out and back in, it drops away also (just make sure you are in a safe place 1st :))

@GalenKnightHawke: The spell itself was still on. I did check the mana cost for EV and EB just to make sure. A bug that just showed the icon wouldn't be worth the trouble of making a post to ask about fixing it. With the spells that just continue to show up at 0 seconds after the spell's effect has ended, that's a client-side issue; just logging out and back in will fix the problem. The slasher's mind rot remaining active is a server-side issue that a programmer will have to address.

@Ally Oop: Thanks for the info.

@AzSel: My mage doesn't have mysticism or chivalry. He could carry enchanted apples or a talisman. I mentioned that I had removed it once with a talisman after I got home and located mine. If I can find an "owned by no one" remove curse talisman, I might use that, or follow Ally Oop's advice. Not that it really matters that much to my character; I seldom run out of mana anyway. It's other players with more limited mana pools that it will really hurt.

But workarounds for the bug aren't the issue, anyway. The problem is that it is a bug, not something that is supposed to happen. There is a formula for how long mind rot is supposed to last, and it is obviously broken for the Slasher.

Sometimes, remove curse (however you want to do it from the list already provided above) does not work. If it doesn't, try one of two things: have a person cast the same curse onto you again, or try to curse yourself with another kind of curse. Sometimes if you add a new curse to the list it lets you remove all of them. Like for example, I love Cleansing Winds, but sometimes I get cursed and Cleansing Winds won't remove a curse until I curse myself with another curse! Haha.

Ugh.
