Skills over 720 with items?

Can a character maxed out at 720 real skill points add jeweley and other items with skill points and have them count? I guess like if maxed out at 720 real, my magery was 105 with a 120 ps and then I added a ring with +15 magery making magery 120, I would then be 735 modified. Does that work or does skill cap out at 720 with or without extra items?

Sorry, not sure where else to ask general UO knowledge questions. If this isn't the right place, please let me know. Thanks!

Don't worry, there is no 'hard cap' for skill points. In theory, if you could find a ring with +1000 skill points, it means your character enjoys 1720 skill points in his template.

More realistic example :
720 real skill + 80 skill from items (eg. hunter's headdress + shadow leggings + imbued jewelry, etc) = 800 effective points your char is working with.

Typically, only stealthers, thieves and tamers can really benefit a lot from this.

I'm not so sure about that...

Necromancy and Magery also benefit a lot in my templates.
Well, suppose a PvM mage could... basically any template that isn't a punching bag for the monsters.

I've put together an extremely nice PvM template with extra skill points... Lacking in extra mods, but I need to redo the jewelry.

Same here. I got a peace/disco tamer with 799.7 skill points. Can kill just about anything. Very fun toon, was thinking about dropping peace for provo, but with peacemaking...ya just don`t die.

I only have 789, needed other mods more than a couple extra points. I think I'm going to redo my jewelry though, add 20 or 25 DI on each.

pvp templates too!

Captain johns, arms of tactical excellence (imbued), orc brute tally (anatomy/resist), +30 skills on both jewels. It's what I'm doing for my alchy/nervestrike gimp

Not to mention the stealther... Captain johns, arms of tactical excellence (imbued), jewels, +10 stealth cloak/shroud thingy, +20 stealth cloak. can save over 100 points.

This pretty much sums up OP's question.
Good post.

Actually, they aren't just PvM; a PvP mage can benefit a LOT from skill items: +30 resist jewelry and the scrapper's has +10, making +40 resist. You can keep 120 resist and have protection cast at the same time.

Warriors with tight templates can also benefit from the +30 skills. More than a few PvPers have +30 resist on their jewelry to make space for other skills on their templates. And players with chivalry generally don't take it past about 75; they will carry a +15 chiv piece of jewelry just so they can switch to it when they need to rez their friends.

And shadow dancer leggings are great for stealthers, both PvP and PvM.

Great information. This is something I always wondered about myself.

For sure this will make me re-evaluate certain items my characters wear.

I have a MELEE Treasure Hunter that can solo level 6s, as long as I don't get two AW at once. He gets almost 80 points in swords, tactics, anatomy, chivalry and parry from equipment (was almost 90 before the "real tactics" requirement for special moves), none of it from imbued equipment. If I ever get imbuing up to where it will be useful, I'll probably imbue better equipment.

And, that's keeping BOTH Cartography & Lockpicking on the character full time - He'd be even more devastating if I swapped the skills out like some - but I'm the THB Guildmaster on my shard, and I have certain standards to maintain.

I keep a "bag of tricks" that allows em to augment most my skills over my actual level. I just wish they would let me imbue tracking!!

My 4x120 Bard / Treasure Hunter has 790 in skills, but still manages a fairly respectable suit. I have a few other templates that benefit from skill jewels, especially those I've capped at GM skills for professional titles (merchant, fisher, shepherd, etc).

My 4x120 bard runs sword/chiv/tact/resist. Just when your slapping on the skills remember for weapon special moves you need the skills natural to be at least 70/90.

travesty mask 20
tally 10
sleeves 12
jewels 96
character 720
----
858

With imbuing now for jewels. Take all the skill frosting out there.....necro/stealth/thief can easely break 900

Which should be changed. If you no longer have the skill to successfully discord a creature the discord should go away.

Fair is fair after all.
