I just had one of those epiphanies I have every now and again. I think I understand at least one of the reasons why Siege has stuggled in terms of population over it's life span.
Wide open pvp, full loot, that generally appeals to pvp'rs, but slow character progression drives most pvp'rs nuts. Slow character progression on the other hand tends to appeal to rp'rs. Oddly enough, most hard core rp'rs also tend to favour wide open pvp and full loot rules sets.
Siege is actually a shard that appeals to hard core rp'rs than it does to hard core pvp'rs, there aren't many of them around. And this isn't meant to be a troll, and I'm only bringing this up because it is a thought that genuinely occurred to me. A classic shard should, in theory, appeal more to both pvp'rs and rp'rs than Siege currently does, for a variety of reasons I won't get into because I don't really want to turn this into another classic shard thread.
