With all the ranting and ravings going on the boards for and against non consensual pvp. I have only one question for everyone who is complaining about trammel and pvp.

Why aren't you playing Siege Perilous?

It offers everything you are looking for, doesn't it?

No Trammel.

Siege has always been the end game for real PvPers.

You just cant compare amateur boxing where you wear headgear and have a maximum of 3 rounds to professional boxing.

LMAO at anyone pratting on about risk versus reward and easy mode and not playing Siege, because they are talking out of their arse.

I don't like the vendor situation. I like being able to have more than one character per account. I don't want to have 5 accounts to replicate the characters I enjoy playing. I have a tamer on siege (made pre-aos), but I don't enjoy playing him that much. Would love to try something else, but worked too hard to delete him or change his template. I want to play the game, not work skills.

I would venture to guess most of the players of Siege Perilous went there for the challenge that PvP offers; in short, for the thrill of encountering another player in combat.

The Feluccan crowd that remains on the other shards, yeah, some of them are there for the thrill of combat, but I'd say they're a dying breed.

The rest of them are the grief players that caused the creation of Trammel in the first place. They don't go to Siege Perilous for one reason alone: Siege Perilous would be a challenge. They're not looking for a challenge, they're looking for an easy-kill player so they can brag about their "superior" skills.

Completely agree with you when we're discussing PvP risk vs. reward (I think PvM risk vs. reward is still something Mythic needs to work on).

I always find it funny when it's a bunch of "Feluccans" who are saying, "Suck it up and come to Fel!" to the "Trammies" when an event or something else happens in Fel... knowing full well that they intend to create maximum risk for the Trammel-folk, and hopefully reap all the rewards thereof.

In that situation it's "you risk it" vs. "we get the reward."


RPvP's a whole different boat, of course, and can be done on any shard. :)

I don't like the vendor situation. I like being able to have more than one character per account. I don't want to have 5 accounts to replicate the characters I enjoy playing. You make a strong point here. More than one character would be nice. My account is only 11 months. I dont' even have soul stones! So i would prefer more than one char.

However, i like the ROT system. Building your skills is a part of the game, and should present some challenge. For me, I feel more accomplished finishing my template b/c I had to work for it.

If a server came out that was AoS free but still had insurance, I'd play that over Siege.

It's a game.

I don't know. I don't particularly enjoy "capped" gains per day or however it works out.

There should be enough content for you to enjoy after capping your skills. Which I think there is.

AoS seems be a real problem. Personally i don't mind the items as long as there is no insurance. I'm looking to have some fun and shake things up a bit. Siege offers that for me.

Its not perfect but its the best alternative to what is offered.

I can still manually max out a toon on production faster than RoT lets you build one make a note of the word manually no loops, no scripts just honest effort. Doesn't matter the skill, it just takes effort RoT removes the need for effort, set a timer, log in get your gain log out wait 15 minutes log in get your gain log out..... Rinse and repeat. You can build a toon on Siege bit by bit over 3 months while playing your regular prodo shard and barely use any time. RoT is easy mode, it's just a long drawn out easy mode.

I've played on siege, still have a toon on siege, and I'll tell anyone in my opinion the best thing that could happen to Siege is to get the plug pulled or the hardware dedicated to a different type of server. Heck make it a UO:R era shard anything earlier will be full of fail just like Siege. Or wipe it clean restart it and remove the Character limit and RoT, go Red on Prodo that character gets a 1 way automatic transfer to Siege call it a reward for being a good PK. Get 6-7 Reds on Siege (Depending on account upgrades) and after that any additional reds on Prodo on your account get deleted.. Bye Bye.

There are several reasons people avoid Siege.

Bad rumers about RoT. It's not that bad, even if it can be annoying.

Only one char, if we had more chars, RoT would not be that bad as you could transfer the skill you are training to one char and play an other.

Transport. It's better now, wuth the portal crystals but you still need a way to get home and a way to get to dungeons as no kind of recall works on Siege.
Recall with 10-20 sec delay, where you had to stand still and not take or deal damage would help alot.

Item based game, you can't affort paying mills for a suit only to lose it 5 mins later.
A fix to the spawn of good items and resources inc imbuing resources would help making the replace of items cheaper.

Factions items. They split the community and non faction PvP'ers do not have a chance vs a faction player without using mills to build a suit he can't affort to replace.

New players always start on Trammel shards first as they can't see Siege on the list.

Fix Siege and the players will come (I hope)

I'll tell you why Siege is Not any of that. UO Ruined Siege when they introduced tamers to PvP.

I'm not going to SP to destroy everyone so that some ****** bag guild of super dragon dismount stealthers can have their pets eat me.

When Siege bans PvM in PvP (i.e. loses tamers) I'll be happy to go back to the "Advanced" shard. Right now it's a bunch of punch drunk all kill stealth temps and I see enough of that on every other shard without having to lose my **** every ten seconds to a bunch of newbs that forgot how to PvP.

Just remove pet bonding from Siege and let the Siege players use their single Siege bless options to bond one pet just like I bless my weapon, my bow.

I enjoy that idea. I'm an ATL resident, I like the Siege rule set, but I've too much history on th e shard to leave her.

The way i understand it is there is plenty of content to enjoy WHILE you gain your skill. The continued content to enjoy once you've maxed your template is your reward for doing so. Either way ROT is a minor set back to participate in the rule set, IMHO.

I understand the desire for a Pre AOS shard. but in the meantime can we not have some fun playing the closest thing available? I say this b/c i JUST joined Siege and they're arent very many players. At least from what I can tell so far.

It's totally ridiculous... I did play siege back in the day, but when Renaissance started changing all the ruleset, I decided never to put foot in it again.

Because of AOS, Seige, has a big problem with the 'Have and Have-nots' and as for community? hhmm, ya, I suppose all 50 people that play Seige know each other pretty well.

Ok, Ok 50 peeps was a shot, but seriously. When I last played Seige a lot, the well estsablished players still ran in Artie/martie suits that cost millions (on Seige) and could be lost, but they rarely died, so you could loot thier stuff, (which is what everyone will say to do). That was not as big an issue as the stealthers.

Now on to "community". In order to have a community, you need to talk to and interact with your community. Try having a conversation at the Luna bank some time. (or anywhere) Within 5 min, you will either be attacked or stolen from. That is fine, when I head out to fight or to do Champs, but doing my business, repairs, chatting with people, that's just annoying.

Almost missed my last point about stealthers, so many on Seige play a stealther, it looks like the shard has 2 people playing on it if you look around some time. Hard to have a community with everyone stealthing around, waiting for the "kill shot" or the steal from you.

Player mentality. And yours is obviously sub-par. Sorry "kid" I have a nephew whose been autistic all his life and can't even begin to fathom the whims, the likes of you, take for granted.

No, I am not steaming PO'd either, typing quite calmly, actually. I actually see what seige has to offer. People like you are what destroys concepts....fel. seige, and any possible "classic" shard.

It is easier to maintain, keep balanced and support Production and Seige because they are so similar. But it is 10 times more difficult to maintain, keep balanced and support Production and Classic

Tom Chilton is the reason I won't play there.


Tom Chilton was lead designer on Ultima Online: Age of Shadows and went on to be a lead designer for Blizzard Entertainment. Also doing lead work for WoWs first expansion.

I'll agree that Siege is the closest thing we have to real UO, but it's still a far cry because it's just another WoW clone =(

can't even put a house here without losing the house on your established production shard.

people can bless an item, which is always their overpowered melee weapon.

the rot system only lets you gain 0.1 in a skill every so many minutes, up to a certain max per day. you cant even go out and raise skills by playing, that's why people only log in every 15 minutes or so to get their gains.

EDIT: forgot to mention a large amount of overpowered skills and abilities

All things considered, Siege is not a shard that makes sense in the Age of Shadows system...

Classic shard is the way to go

Not enough.

It would still have neon crap, ridable dogs, etc.

Besides, when the devs ripped Malas out of it, what would happen to the houses that all the players there had??

Siege =/= to a Classic Shard. The two are different, and should remain that way.

I don't PvP. It is just not my thing.

anyway... I played Siege for a while back in the Ianstorm days. I had 2 characters and got an 18x18 plot (put a 7x7 shack on it). I actually enjoyed the shard a bit. The PvP'ers were cool. Even most of the PK's were ok. No one was as rude or full of smack talk as the Great Lakes Fel players I've run into.

But I ended up abandoning them. My characters are still there (one may still be in Iantown somewhere :) ) I just prefer PvM. Sorry Kelmo, but you know I still love you.

I honestly think Siege is the best option. I wouldn't dream of suggesting changes but the community there could figure out what they wanted to change and maybe more players would go.

But too many "PvP'ers" we have now wouldn't go anywhere that they didn't have the option to hide in Tram.

not sure if they want me linking to the WoW forums, but there is a 76 page thread complaining about Tom Chilton, and in there even WoW players spent some time saying he single handedly destroyed UO ha! (of course they are most lekely ex-UO players, but it's till funny).

and yeah, he was Evocare in UO, the same guy who added to the game that when you killed someone, you could slaughter them for a short period of time without any other negative effect, he "ran" a peninsula with his guild, and they were the PKs everyone hated, they would gank people all day, and res kill them endlessly because they could. ahhh, yes yes the type of person almost everyone here HATES was the man who gave birth to AoS.

okay, back on topic, sorry!

I played siege for a while once skill gains became too easy on other shards. And It did get to the point however that once I hit my cap gain for the day, i would log off. Because if i was training swords, why would I keep playing if I couldn't advance my char even .1 in skill? Maybe that's wrong of me, but that's what drove me off. I did want harder skill gain, but not impossible.

Ah no, not another one of these threads.

I'm all for promoting Siege, but these kind of threads always bring out the weird posters who seem to know alot about Siege, despite not having been on there for years.

Just get annoyed when people start to bash the Siege community, when they know nothing about it.

I got a char there but the reasons why I do not play are:

* My timezone is GMT+1. When I can play, Siege is empty.
* ROT
* only one char
* Ping is not good from Europe to the US. (playable of course, but I get sub 15 on Europa. Make that 115 on Siege.

I've played Siege for last four-five years...and I love it. Sure you only get one char, but you have soulstones. Its a lot of work to build and acquire everything. But when you do there is a much better sense of completion.

Every ones play style is different. I love to go around and hunt PvMers; kill them and loot their luck suits. Cant really do that on other shards. I love to walk around luna. Run up to an innocent blue cast explosion, target them then run out of town. Rinse/repeat until dead.

Lots of things you can do that you just can't do on other shards. The best part is the economy. Everyone knows everyone and the prices are stable. Never been a dupe or anything like that in the history of Siege.


If everyone came to siege with a clear mind and a willingness to "build" their character...I bet most would never leave. I played Chesapeake my first 5 years of UO, tried Siege and never went back :)

We've been asking for just that, but the question is will the devs put in the time to do it!

We recently polled potential Siege players and asked what prevented them from playing Siege. We then polled, polled and polled some more, the Siege community to see what, if any changes would be palatable to the community as a whole. We had an incredible amount of support for many of the things potential, future Siege players mentioned!

-Second Character slot

-Increased bank storage space. [750-1000 items] So players without a house can actually have somewhere to store items in this INCREDIBLY ITEM BASED game.

-Allow a second "grandfathered" type house on Siege that has to be refreshed. [or made primary at a later date]

-The addition of Blackrock Skill Gain Areas - Perfect risk vs. reward for Siege!

-Additional tweaks to rot timers and caps

There were a few other things on the list that was emailed/PM'd to a number of devs. As you can see, most of our requests are already coded into the game in some shape or form. We tried very hard to ask for the things that would give us the most bang for the buck for us and for the devs. The coding would obviously have to be tweaked in each of these case, but its better than the time it would take to start from scratch!

The question is: Will the devs hear us and dedicate some time to Siege?!

We have been patiently awaiting an answer and some communication would be nice. Siege has great potential, even in this item-based game, but the original concept of Siege no longer works in todays game.

AoS item-centric stuff aside, were it not for the restrictive nature of Siege, I think it would have more players.

Ok, my connection to any of the American servers is poor generally (I'm talking 400m/s plus at the best of times...), that's not stopped my playing on other American servers. Although this pretty much kills the possibility of being able to compete effectively in PvP, it doesn't prevent me from other character templates.

The restriction of character numbers is the single biggest restriction for me.

If I want to focus then on crafter/gathering/trading templates, with all the skills available now, I would need at least a minimum of two characters, if not three, to cover all the skills I would want to use.

Yes, there's soulstones, but they're a poor answer and restrictive in how quickly you can transfer skills. I don't like the idea of having to purchase with real $$$, additional soulstones to take the quantity of skills I would need to store, not when I already pay a subscription to play. My opinion might differ there if UO was a FTP game. Likewise, I don't see why I should have to pay for an additional account, when I don't need to on other servers, where I can use five to seven character slots.

So personally, it's not the skill gain system, or AoS+ items particularly (although I don't like the over-bearing importance of items in gameplay...), it's character slots that's my main issue. Were it not for that, I would have already been playing Siege a long time ago.

There's lots of things I've enjoyed doing in UO over the years. I like to be able to do those things as and when I choose. That's not possible with only one character and that's arguably why Siege hasn't appealed to myself and many others.

If they changed just that one thing, I think you would soon see the population of Siege climb quite quickly.

I would play seige if they took away all of the dead trees and made it look normal! I mean if its all pvp anyways why make it look like a wasteland?

Just remove pet bonding from Siege and let the Siege players use their single Siege bless options to bond one pet just like I bless my weapon, my bow.

I enjoy that idea. I'm an ATL resident, I like the Siege rule set, but I've too much history on th e shard to leave her.
I've been saying this for years, literally...

In the enhanced client you can turn the foliage off or on.
