Should BODs be removed and replaced by a turn in system?

Basically cross bulk orders with the heartwood quest system with the turn in system.

Go to a npc smith. Open context menu , click on bulk orders.

A list of numerous orders would appear, anything from normal iron ringmail gloves all the way to exceptionnal valorite twinkling scimitars, or even cannons and dragon scale items.

Each order would give you points according to its difficulty and rarity factor.

You could then choose to buy any Bod reward currently available with the points earned. Sturdys , anvils , runics ect...

This would remove the need for BoDs and BoD Holders ;

It would allow anyone to work towards high end rewards ;

It would be possible to cap the amount of Bulk orders taken or turned in each day, limiting scripting?

Might be a good way to balance runics with imbuing and the new loot system?

Thoughts?

I vote no. I like it the system how it is. It's fun to for me to try to fill the large ones. (Your post makes it sound like you would not large ones.) I actually do Tailoring BOD's most of the time. I shear sheep for cloth when I no longer have BOD reward cloth. I kill animals for leather as I need it. I also usually wait to fill a BOD book before I turn them in because it's easier for me to organize them all at once rather than one a time. (I tend to just throw them in a chest that way and forgot them there.)

I rather like the idea. Maybe it's just me, but the current BOD system made me feel like a sweat-shop worker (which is why I stopped using it). :)

This would do the same thing they did when they randomized ore/wood. It would hurt the honest player more then the scripters.

I dont see how? Care to elaborate?

The way i see it is since the Orders are in a quest form and not deeded, you cant have accounts farming bods for a single crafter, you cant buy or trade them... so if a char is limited to lets say 20 (or any amount that would be reasonable ) orders a day, well thats it, you cant make more even if your char is on a script.

I agree with Hell's Ironworks post and great idea.

It shouldn't be to hard since they already have the heartwood quest system in. Just change it up a bit on what is needed and maybe by ingot type.

Say the blacksmith NPC wants you to make 20 Katanas in iron ingots.

Next time he says make 30 chaos shields in gold ingots.

After that it may be make 15 plate gorgets in valorite ingots.

Lets add a little mix into it and not have it allowed in luna but have it in the main shops in other cities. Yes I am a luna hater but I also think not allowing access to a bank full of different ingots close to the smiths would curb scripting.

Since the honest player only has a limited amount of time to play they have to use the time to find the type of ore they want, or just "luck" into it. With a scripter it can run 24/7 so it doesn't matter how random it is in the long run they will still get several thousand of what ever kind of ore.

I dont quite get what you're saying. When i know im gonna do bods, i verify i have the amount of ingots needed before i do them. You wouldnt have only 1 choice of Order on the menu, you would have 10-20? from low to high end. You could decide what type you want to make depending on your skill and the color of ingots you already have.

...

Scriptors didn't have to worry about time or fatigue before they changing mining either and had the added bonus of having all of the higher end ores marked, so that argument against the current system really isn't anything new (or solvable really).

As for a daily limit, I'm VERY MUCH against the idea of arbitrary limits, and no, I'm not a scriptor, but UO isn't one of those games where you have X number of actions you can do in a given time frame and then you have to wait for them to be "refreshed", nor should it be.

The BOD system is fine as it is, a little frustrating at times, but fine. If you know how the system works, you know that you no longer need an army of BOD-mules just to get the deeds you want/need. Just make sure you fill the "junk" deeds to get new ones.

I once went 6 months playng my smith/tailor almost exclusively.
At the moment, I use him to unravel stuff (he is also my imbuer), and he collects bods for the day when I feel like plunging headlong into crafting again.

I can tell you that i have many bods with good rewards just waiting to be completed.
What is the current limit on the number of open quests that can be "held"?

What would the new limit be?

No don't take my bods away from me!
I love to unwind and sit and fill tailor bods.
Turn on Dawn's music box and sit and sew by the fire.

Add your quest in addition to the bods if you will...but leave me my sewing please!

I always enjoy taking one of my low-skilled tailor characters on some remote shard to a field of cows and bulls to kill them and then slowly fill leather BODs right on the spot. Makes gaining magery, meditation, evaluate intelligence, tailoring, and arms lore skill a whole lot less boring.

lol, the only difference would be that you wouldnt need the deed on ¨paper¨.

And the limit being for example what a really motivated player can do in what 4 hours? Something that a normal player can get bored before he reaches the limit. If there has to be one.

The main idea behind all this was primarely to get rid of the deeded form. removing the bod holders and letting the player choose what he wants as a reward .

I thought some kind of limit might help with scripting but im not married to it ;)

I would heartly disagree with you sir.. I vote no and would rather they ADD to the current Bod system to include Tinkering and Carpentry.. Perhaps a rotating reward for the change would be nice. I see a big flaw in your proposal, with that drop down menu the abuse of the high end skill choices soon the shard would be over run with the bigger reward gifts.. Like val hammers.

We'll agree to disagree then :)

I dont see an influx of higher end runic as a bad thing with imbuing being there and all the uber loot on the way.

And dont forget you would still have to accumulate enough points to get those.

i think the bod system was meant to be a system where trade was necessary..

if everyone had its own quest how would you trade bods to get the ones needed?

With his system then everyone would just save up and get (smith) Powder of Fort and Val Runics (tailor) Clothing Bless Deed and Barbed Runics. This will kill anything Smiths and Tailors have left to sell.

I vote yes! I like the idea, and I hate BODs. Especially the random rewards.... I'd like to use my points to get some things that I really want, like that last recipie or a really good tool.

You'd have to save up for a long time to get really good stuff, but it would be worth it! Especially since you would get what you wanted.

I just wanted to add; with a point turn in system, it would be infinitely easier to control the introduction of powerful items into the game. In it's current, random state, it is entirely possible (though unlikely) that a person could get several runic tools in a row on turning in BOD's. Yay for the player, but woe for the game.
