Ship vanished?

What with one thing or another... I haven't been able to log into my fisherman for a couple of days. I logged in this morning to find him at my house (which is not where he logged out), and I can't recall to my ship. Nor is the ship in my backpack or bankbox... WTF?

The ships do decay over time if they are not refreshed. I believe it is supposed to be a 5-day decay cycle. To refresh them - you must 2x click on the rope as if you were boarding or leaving the ship. Sounds like it may have decayed.

Well, as it was a Tokuno ship... that was an expensive lesson. Especially with four completed quests in the hold. :(

Thanks!

I totally forgot mine over the holidays - luckily I only had 3 quests on board, with no fish in them. I think the only thing of real value I lost was a spider slayer spellbook that I left there for a friend to pick up out of the hold.

I think for the High Seas ships, it's a 10 or 14 day cycle.

If it's not normal decay, it's probably something screwy because of LS's "mini-revert" on Fri... that's the only reason I can of that he'd be at the house rather than on the ship or some random shoreline somewhere.

When the ship decays and your character was logged out on the ship - when you log in - you automatically go back to the last location you were on when you boarded the ship. So if you recalled from the house to the ship - you would reappear at the house.

I checked on a couple of different sites and both said it was a 5-day decay cycle.

Ship Decay is now 14 days. This change was made when they introduced High Seas. See here:

http://stratics.com/community/threads/ship-decay.248457/#post-1997949 (though I do not know how to access the old post linked in this post).

Ships go through the same decay stages as houses, so it is easy to test. If you want to test it, go buy a boat on TC and check in on it daily.

Well, something funny is going on either way... because my ship vanished some 8-12 hours *before* a full five days by the clock had elapsed.

From numerous posts and experience of alliance mates - I'm sticking with the 5-days theory. The decay cycles that we see on the tillerman move faster than a 13-day cycle. Derek's experience seems to be around 5 days as well - and not anywhere near 13.

Maybe there is a bug, which changed the decay timer back to what it was pre-High Seas. I will put a boat in the water and test it out.

I know that I left my boat unvisited for at least 10 days after Thanksgiving and it was still there - though I barely saved it then. (then forgot about it around Christmas time)

I have a boat in the water, so we'll see what happens. I've been doing most of my fishing as of late in Felucca, so I dry dock the boat after each session, making my boat available for this test and saving me the headache of getting to the Floating Emporium on TC.

I make it a habit of dry docking my boats prior to the major holidays. It is just easier for me. I got burned once, when a gulidmate promised he would and forgot to refresh both of our boats (pre- High Seas). We lost over 200 MIBS. I dry docked my boat prior to the release of Skyrim too. :)

It's def 5 days for me, not 14 days. I lost 2 ships last week, and I did time it. One was a tokuno ship, one a classic small one.

The classic ships might still be 5 days - if it's happening to HS vessels, it's a definite bug.

Perhaps a little late now, but did you try the harbour master and see if he could locate your ship and give you a new rune?

I didn't know about this, I got bounced off my ship and lost it! But thanks to your post I was able to get a new rune and there she was waiting for me! Thanks so much!

Hmm... someone in another thread mentioned that you had to click on the rope (or the tillerman, opinions vary) in order to refresh, I don't think I ever did that. That may be my problem.

To refresh your boat, you must click on the rope, use the tillerman, or click on one of the planks (for classic ships). You do not need to go to shore via the rope or plank, just double clicking it will work. You will get a system message that the ship has been refreshed. You can verify this by mousing over the tillerman and looking at the condition. Recalling/gating to the ship does not refresh it.

When doing fishing quests, I will mark a rune to the land near my ship (or leave it in a port) and recall to the land and board using the rope. This insures that I do not forget to refresh my ship. Also, if we ever get another ship rune decouple bug, I can easily find my ship. Skara Brae is is nice place to park, as it is an island and not far from Moonglow and the Emporium.

I am finished with my boat decay test. I placed my tokuno ship in the water and recorded the time and its condition. I examined the ship each day and recorded the time and conditiion. At no time did I refresh the ship. I halted the test as soon as I saw it was "In Danger of Collapsing", since I do not want to lose my ship (sources claim this state only lasts one day).

Conclusion: 13 Days from placement to get to "In Danger of Collapsing". Ship decay is the stated two week duration.

I can't tell you how many times I've had to jump on another one of my ships to find my "lost" ship due to the ship rune bug so I can mark another rune; luckily, I tend to stick to a familiar route.
If, at this time we were able to go to the Harbor Master to find our ship, it's one resource I didn't know about. Thank you for that information The Mule.

Wow, as long as I've had High Seas (since it's inception) this is the first time I've known that the Galleons had a much longer decay time than regular boats.
:blushing: Yes, I should be embarrassed to even admit this. My friend was so totally dead on right when he suggested to me once I should read up on things.
Apparently I only 'think' I'm getting the whole story, when in truth, I obviously only read snippets. Thank you Barry for testing this out.

Classic and High Seas ships should have the same decay timer.

I just lost mine and it had been 10 days since I last refreshed it. I didn't get the 14 days on the tokuno ship or my small ship on my second account. I had refreshed it by clicking on the rope and then checking the status on the tillerman. I am glad it was not an orc ship or the one you have to buy through the origin store. I lost a lot of stuff from pirating that I was doing. It wasn't anything major but real life prevented me from logging in. :(

I understand why they have them decay, it would be a mess on the water if everyone had ships at sea and they did not decay but it would be nice if they dry docked the ship instead of deleting it. When you log in, if your ship was empty it would just appear in your pack dry docked and if it was not, maybe put it in your house's moving crate or give you a 1 day timer (similar to how items from shard transfer are stored) to unpack your boat and your stuff stored in the hold.

May I ask a Felucca fishing related question ?

Did you notice any noticeable change as in comparison to fishing in Trammel due to the risk vs reward of Felucca ?

If so, what advantages are there to fish in Felucca ?

Thanks.

I have noticed nothing different other than the extra resources from cutting up sea serpents and the different fish available in Fel.

I concur.

I started Fishing in Felucca because I got sick of catching Yellowtail Baraccuda.
