This has bugged me for a while now. Its more of an idea about aesthetics than a boost.
PvPers and PvMers love their quivers, even if they never touched a bow a day in their pixelated lives. They use them for the benefits, of course, but does it really make any sense if they are not archers?
Its been a while since our paper dolls have had any love (unless you are a gargoyle). Humans and Elves haven't had any new look choices besides dye options in years. With that said, we have had a lot of events and an expansion lately that has added lots of new art to the game. That art is awesome. Cornucopias and jack o'lanterns look great, the gew gargoyle equipment and deco is extremely well rendered. But us Elves and Humans are so 2004!
I doubt new clothes options are on the radar anytime soon, although in my opinion, we are long overdue. (I still want a long coat like Aragorn!) But, if you combine the lack of sense that a non-archer would want to wear a quiver and the fact that we've not had a paperdoll upgrade in years, that makes me think "why not scabbards?".
I'm thinking sword belts or a back harness. Two display modes, empty and full. Empty on a belt would just look like a new belt, same layer as a ninja belt or obi. Empty as a back harness, it could look similar to a quiver (you would see the strap across the chest and maybe a hint of the scabbard peeking out behind the shoulder on the paper doll) and function as the same layer. It would be a container just like quivers, but instead of only storing arrows, these would only store one weapon. Full on the hip, there could be art for a warfork hanging against your leg, a sword handle peeking out of a sheath, a club dangling from the belt, paired sai holster style on each hip, etc. Finally, samurai could wear their daisho with honor!
The back version could be for 2 handed weapons that would be too big in real life to put on a belt-frog, like axes or no-dachi. At the same time, the back version would still accept smaller weapons. The art on the paperdoll would look like the hilt or handle of the weapon is coming up over the right, left, or both shoulders (for things like sai or daisho). Some weapons, like axes, the heads could be seen peeking over the shoulder.
As far as properties go, no need to unbalance things, give them the same properties availible to quivers. Heck, maybe even make it so you can store your shield on the back scabbard too.
To me, its seems like something we should have always had. Now that the art talent and people behind it have improved, I think we *could* have it.
