Sheathes, Scabbards, and Frogs. Oh My!

This has bugged me for a while now. Its more of an idea about aesthetics than a boost.

PvPers and PvMers love their quivers, even if they never touched a bow a day in their pixelated lives. They use them for the benefits, of course, but does it really make any sense if they are not archers?

Its been a while since our paper dolls have had any love (unless you are a gargoyle). Humans and Elves haven't had any new look choices besides dye options in years. With that said, we have had a lot of events and an expansion lately that has added lots of new art to the game. That art is awesome. Cornucopias and jack o'lanterns look great, the gew gargoyle equipment and deco is extremely well rendered. But us Elves and Humans are so 2004!

I doubt new clothes options are on the radar anytime soon, although in my opinion, we are long overdue. (I still want a long coat like Aragorn!) But, if you combine the lack of sense that a non-archer would want to wear a quiver and the fact that we've not had a paperdoll upgrade in years, that makes me think "why not scabbards?".

I'm thinking sword belts or a back harness. Two display modes, empty and full. Empty on a belt would just look like a new belt, same layer as a ninja belt or obi. Empty as a back harness, it could look similar to a quiver (you would see the strap across the chest and maybe a hint of the scabbard peeking out behind the shoulder on the paper doll) and function as the same layer. It would be a container just like quivers, but instead of only storing arrows, these would only store one weapon. Full on the hip, there could be art for a warfork hanging against your leg, a sword handle peeking out of a sheath, a club dangling from the belt, paired sai holster style on each hip, etc. Finally, samurai could wear their daisho with honor!
The back version could be for 2 handed weapons that would be too big in real life to put on a belt-frog, like axes or no-dachi. At the same time, the back version would still accept smaller weapons. The art on the paperdoll would look like the hilt or handle of the weapon is coming up over the right, left, or both shoulders (for things like sai or daisho). Some weapons, like axes, the heads could be seen peeking over the shoulder.

As far as properties go, no need to unbalance things, give them the same properties availible to quivers. Heck, maybe even make it so you can store your shield on the back scabbard too.

To me, its seems like something we should have always had. Now that the art talent and people behind it have improved, I think we *could* have it.

I agree wholeheartedly that this would be a welcome addition for my sword fighters.

Oh, forgot to add, for people that would rather have a back scabbard or sword belt instead of their current quiver and don't wanna lose their special dyed quiver (tokuno dyes are more expensive each day and i doubt we'll see the slime dyes again) make quivers convertible to sword belts and back harnesses like you can convert normal equipment to gargoyle equipment.

That's a really cool idea.

As long as we're talking about paperdoll art, though, can we PLEASE have some new faces for male chars?? The females all look great, but all the men look like extras from miami vice!

I agree with the recent awesome art, but with all the cutbacks they had recently, I wouldn't hold my breath

On the condition it uses the quiver slot not the cincture spot.

nice idea maybe it could have self repair added to repair weapons

It'd be nice to have a place to hold an extra weapon to allow for quick weapon switching.

... Yes, i know there're change weapon macros, but they're a bit flawed, and if done well this could add a bit more versatility? Maybe some way to get around the move-item delay for switching?

And while on it could have a hip quiver. Not sure there are many that desire any cloak choices over the CC apron.

Use the EC, can choose from a bunch of different faces/body types, normal human faces, meer, vampire, undead, papuan, etc.

The scabbards are a good idea.

I'd even lose my crimson cincture for a scabbard with no significant properties.

I'd hate to see people have to choose between a Crimmie and a sword belt, that's why I'm pushing for both the back harness and the sword belt. I imagine it would be really hard and buggy to try and introduce a new layer.

A hip quiver is an great idea too. No reason to bring in something new to make archers jealous without giving them a goodie too. :)

And yes, I'd really love the sheathes to be recognized as valid disarm bags.

Scabbards/Sheathes would be awesome! Does same thing as quivers, but for melee weapons!

Larger on the back type scabbard takes up quiver slot only get bonuses for wielding 2-handed weapons, sheathes worn around waist, takes same spot as quiver but looks more like a belt.

2-handed variety should have better/more mods than the 1-handed variety. Melee warrior needs some aesthetic love!!

You mean like the EquipLast macro?

Arm weapon 1. Disarm weapon 1. Arm weapon 2. Start hitting EquipLast whenever you want to toggle.
That still suffers from the "moving an item" delay.
i.e.: "You must wait to move that item."

Also i have trouble with the fact that it's Equip "Last" cause the "Last" changes around a lot.
an "Equip This" with a cursor to toggle the item would be much more useful.
