I dont see why this isnt being handled, especially considering the traceability of the offending player scamming people out of their goods and accounts by using an infected website.
This person is spamming multiple shards, no idea how or why effort isnt being put into place to stop this. Seems one call to the offenders ISP should be able to stop the illegal activity.

The one on GL I'm sure is the same as all the other shard he drops books all over luna on....... Personally when I see the books I pick them up and throw them away..... everytime.... When I was working on my beggar I used to pick them up and toss them in the trash the second he dropped them.

Actually, my favorite thing to do with those books (we see them on Chesapeake, too) is to leave them right where they are... but take my scribe around and copy another book onto them.

Ya was a guy in Luna on a trial account doing it as well his name was 'ww'w.XXXXXX'.c'om Someone musta nailed him because he was gone within 3mins
Perhaps Trial Accounts should not be able to go to Malas Or the Capital City of Britain?
I'm sure they can setup those boundaries that make it so Trial accounts can not go in certain areas. Also make it so Trial accounts can use Inscribe or open books.....If you let them open books im sure they can write something to do it just like inscribe.

So if you buy gold or these items and a GM catches up with you and finds they are dupes you can kiss your account goodbye so do not come on the board crying foul for simply buying anything without checking first will burn yer ass

Not so, EA, OSI, and now Mythic have allowed after market purchases well, forever. It was eBay who opted to cease selling the genre, not our folks. Now, should policy change, we'll have to see what those changes are. I'm neither condoning nor condemning the practice, but the rules are the rules. So the practice can't get you trouble, at least not yesterday or today. It's always been as clear as mud about how having an item is handled if it's sourced as duped. The trouble is, whether we buy from a vendor or after market, we can't tell! Sure, somebody pops in and says I'm selling a server birth for 100 gps, many of us know better. But even then, some actually, fairly and honestly, would not.
Edit: If I'm not mistaken, there was a "change" or "clarification" recently that you could not "advertise," or "reference" a website within the game. If reported as a violation in this manner, I suspect the GMs might action the offender, they've been pretty good about doing so of late! So if you're looking for a mechanism to counter the practice, that might do it.
Perhaps GMs should actually do their jobs instead.
I just went to the website that is being adevrtised on Europa to see if there was a way to complain to whoever runs it, and its lists the characters names and icq's who run it, liek fate is mine europa, surely a gm could do the same and ban the people responsible

I had the luxury of talking to one of these guys. Supposedly he's made 170 trial accounts in the past week.
Unless he has one hell of a program or something, I'm really surprised he hasn't been IP banned or something to stop this.

Those fedUO people and the people selling accounts on Atl are scammers the one guy somehow stole one of my very first accounts and I still see him I paged called in and I have not got me account back yet.
It was my very first account started in like 97. I paged called in and nothing has been done the guy still sits in luna spamming.
Honestly I think its just EA or could be DEVS or EMS trying to get a buck out of people that is why nothing had been done about the guy that stole my very first uo account
I have not played on ATL since that shard is utter crap.

Its not an Atlantic problem.
UO has passwords for a reason.
Dont blame/put off your stupidity on a whole shard.

Hmm. I believe that we've got 2 problems on our hands here!
1) The account scammer on Atlantic
2) The feduo spammers on all shards you guys have mentioned.
I am pretty sure they are 2 different people, therefore we need to find 2 solutions to the problem!
If it was only 1 person running both, we'd only need 1 solution

I really wish these threads would get locked/moved/deleted. Now anyone not on europa or catskills... who may be new or curious about buying gold... know just where to go.

I wouldnt ever buy gold, seems like a waste of money, I was just highlighting a in-game problem that people could create newbie free characters and advertise whatever they want really, gold, porn, powertools, anything at all really.
The fact that this particular person is stupid enough to have their character names and icq on the site begs me to wonder why they have not been banned.
I dont think its really helping people to buy gold as one chap pointed out these sites are largely run by scammers who try to steal your account details, more a warning to people not to.

Well it pretty much says you can't do it in the ToS. And if someone doesn't read the ToS, goes to a website with the intent to buy gold... and gets hacked... then I don't really feel too bad for them. The problem sort of took care of its self and someone learned a lesson.
Buying/selling virtual items for RL cash is a sensitive and well-known subject for any experienced MMO player. So yes those experienced in MMOs should be very well aware of the (in-game) legality of cash for pixels.
Those new to MMOs, specifically UO, who would kill a mongbat and loot 5 gps might not care if they get banned/hacked or not when they see someone spamming a website selling the same gold at 50 cents/mil. They would probably take that chance.
And no better avenue to learn how than to stumble across these forums and see the thread titled "Selling Gold" bouncing all over the front page.
But now its me bumping the thread so I'll bow out of the remainder of the conversation.

Dodger, it's been stated in the thread, but you must remember it is not against the TOS to sell items after market. That's why the folks who do, don't mind listing characters, ICQs, etc on their websites - it's fine with EA and UO (I left Mythic "out," it seems they do not favor the practice). It is however, against the TOS to advertise web sites. Players claim to have actually been warned by GMs not to refer new players to stratics or uoguide using their URLs. I don't know if thats happened lately though, the whole thing may be under review/ on hold for all we know. I agree with you, I don't think they should be spamming after market sites within the game, even though I'm not against the practice of after market sales. I don't think it's wrong to send someone in need of information to a support site or guide. Your best bet is to page that a player is advertising a URL in game, and see if it's actioned by the GMs. If not, it's a good bet the policy is being refined or reviewed. Chrissay may clarify if that's actually the case so folks don't pester the hound out of the GMs

I'm, pretty sure this has a regular account and uses trial accounts to drop the books all over the place. On LA I like to pick them up and sell them to a NPC vendor. 40 gold is 40 gold after all....
I can't name my GD "Little Big Man" but payers can put w w w or . c o m seems little crazy any Dev care to comment??????????
