Scammer caught

I think the Dev's are doing an awesome job.
Just tonight I had a player (not sure how much I can say here) anyway they tried to scam me out of some trees posing as A Dev. I wouldn't give them to her so she threatened to ban my account. Ban my account, your not getting my trees.
Juniper Sky helped me report her and Lee caught her. Yay.
OK did I say too much? It was soooo exciting seeing the action happening right before me.

They are working for us guys, be patient and give them a chance. If they didn't care they wouldn't be doing things like what happened tonight. Go team, go team, go team. Get those bad guys. Yes I am a cheerleader.

I am so thrilled to hear this. I was also visited by a posing scammer tonite, who was threatening, demanding and wanted my rares and trees, I used my ingame help and reported as fast as I could. These ppl are ruthless and never give up.

I will forever ban, boot and ignore anyone who comes in my store posing as a developer. I hope that is ok to say, I am using NO names.

Why can't these people get a life? Don't they know what they'll eventually get caught and their account suspended. What a bunch of douches.

Most of them use free accounts then pass anything they get to a paid one or sell it on - probably in their real one they are the same - want something for nothing and dont care who they hurt to get it

To the sound of the beat

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, Lee's gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

thanks for posting this. It is important to hear that the devs will act quickly and ban scammers. I have seen Lee in action against one very notrious scammer a while back, and i was impressed that the devs will act when they can.

Im very pleased to hear that you didnt give into the scammers demands, its difficult to know what to do when you are put into that sort of threatening situation

No, what you said was fine. As long as you (anyone) doesn't name the scammer or describe them in a manner that is just as good as naming (i.e. owner of the XYZ123 house), then all is good. You did exactly the right thing - report the scammer in-game.

The Dev accounts should have a symbol (similiar to the founder flag) that makes them easily identifiable.

They already have unique names - nobody else can use the "maxis" with their names.
If players don't know about that, then a unique symbol isn't going to be any more effective.

Still.... they should probably do it anyway.

I read earlier about a sim using MAXlS rather then MAXIS. would MAX IS work? I have also seen Dev used and EA .. something that cannot be edited should be used to identify them. Word filters can be worked around.

Would love to know what time this was going on. They were doing the same thing at one of my sims store last night. We reported here and in game. There were two scammers coming in saying the same things you reported.

This has been happening to us for the last few weeks. One attack after another. As of last night we have had 5 attacks at one store.

I think the devs should have different heads that on one else can have. The flag is a good idea also.

I post here but cause I put the names of the sims in my post, my posts were pulled.

Yeah, you can't post specific names here for scammers because the mods say they have no way to separate legitimate "I was scammed by so-and-so" from "So-and-so pissed me off by cheating on me in game so I'll get him back by calling him a scammer and ruining his in-game reputation". There's been a few people though that have put up personal websites that *do* name names and warn people, but again we can't give out the URL to any of those sites here, for the same reason....all sites that are linked through here also have to be RoC-compliant. That pretty much leaves in-game to distribute those URLs, though naming specific people as scammers on bios will get you popped in-game as well. It's crazy.......on one hand I understand it but on another it makes it really hard to look out for each other and for ourselves if we don't know who to look out for. A real paradigm.

This is probably the wrong place to ask, but it's something I've wondered for a while. I used to have a sign on my property that said "Caveat Emptor" then a list of names...I was not saying "these folks are scammers" but I was naming names...is that within the RoC/ToS?

It is definately against the Rules of Conduct for Stratics.

And if I remember correctly, posters have gotten in trouble for posting names in their bios and lot descriptions in the game, too, but I am not as sure how it works there.

Yes, the in game developers SHOULD have either an avatar that ONLY they can access, a flag, something that ONLY developers can have. Because right now, if one came in, i would boot and ban them only because I have been twice burned by hackers posing as developers.

Developers NEED to be identifiable, and the appearance of their avatar should be a totally different look from our sims, and not be accessible to the sim community.

The only problem with that is that I think all the heads that were available in the CAS screen of TS1 are available to us in EA Land, so I don't know if there *are* any heads that they could add without custom coding them, which I am not sure they could do. It ought to be perfectly possible though for them to make themselves a 'badge'.....an object that they can flash in trade mode that says to the player, yes I am a dev.....one that cannot be cc'd by anybody else. I wonder if soemthing like that is possible.

This morning I was scammed by someone on email who tricked me into telling him my username and password:( Dumb dumb me after all the warnings.
They claimed to be Parizad and since I had just sent an email to the devs site for help, I didn't take time to use my brain. I was so excited to hear from Parizad. They said they need my password so they could send me a consulation gift for not being able to get into tc3 still.
I had just mailed about that.
But then I paniced and changed my password and called the ea help line about it.
But now my game is suspended and I can't get on:((( I am really suffering for my mistake. Hope this warning helps someone else. The mail looked so official.

I admire the community spirit behind your having such a list posted on your property, but a player with ulterior motives and a few grudges could also post "Caveat Emptor" lists. I know you from years in game, and of course I would trust your list,
but how would a player who didn't know you well be able to judge? It is one of those slippery slope situations that are the reason TOS are created.

Much more important is for everyone to understand that the admonition "never give out game information" means NEVER. It is no big deal for a scammer to create a new avatar and a new avatar name. The only way to prevent scamming and thwart phishing is for each and every player to make it their own personal rule to never, never, never provide information.

Yes, since not all sims are honest, it can get out of hand completely.

I don't understand how you gave perfect reasoning to why it isn't allowed then complain about it?

You don't need someone's warning to avoid being scammed--a scientist in southern Ireland invented a new thing called common sense.

Could it be possible that whatever is associated with them avatar bio, lot bio, etc. is a differant color other than blue? That would be the most noticeable of the all because they would stick out like a sore thumb.

What I have suggested to people is always look at where the person in question lives. If they don't live on EA Island (where City hall is and the community pub is in TC#), then they are most likely NOT a dev member. If you are ever not sure, tell them this. If it is a dev member, they will understand and find another way to contact you that proves they are a dev memeber.

PeeBee thats a great idea about their bio being a different color...its a start at least.

Very true. I'll give you that one. I was more thinking for everyone who is on here that is a suggestion. Something that can be passed along to friends and something that can be told to people when they are on Welcome lots or something.

I think this is awesome that the scammers who are posing as EA employees are being caught and that justice is served.

Although..right now there is a big time scammer in EA Land who is scamming and also trying to get people to give her their RL personal information.

I hope that the reports and emails are taken just as seriously as the EA employee imposters.
