Sampire Weapon Questions

This is an awesome from Farsight in another thread awhile ago.

Different templates for different Peerless:
120 swords
120 parry
120 bushido
100 tactics
100 necro
60 chivalry

Those skills go for every situation

100 anatomy for Dread Horn, DH key collecting, Travesty, Paroxy, Paroxy keys
100 spirit speak for spawning (wraith form and wither to speed things up early on, maybe vamp form later with curse weapon for double leeching), Paroxy, DH, but not DH key collecting or Travesty (when they copy your necro/SS, it's really hard to kill changelings).
100 resist spells for Doom or high level necro-spell casting mobs. I kill myself more often with their blood oath (I have no stones to switch in resist) than anything else.

I have made this template and purchased 3 soulstones for the applicable skills. I was wondering however which weapons I should purchase for the different scenarios. I know using a SoulSeaker in doom is a problem. What would you say are the best weapon types for specials and the best attributes on the weapon for each boss and key collecting. I plan on buying few different ones.

Basic mods needed:

Hit Stamina Leech
Hit Mana Leech
SSI
DI

For Swords:

Twinkling Scimitar (upgrade of a Radiant Scimitar)
Mage's Rune Blade (upgrade of a Rune Blade)
Ornate Axe

For swords I would say Connor has it covered, but I'm inclined to suggest that the Scimitar and Rune Blade are the best options.

The Ornate Axe requires over 180 stamina, a 30 ssi wep, AND divine fury to swing at max speed.

The Rune Blades require 150+ with 30 ssi and you're at max. Much easier to swing max speed. The DPS should be about the same when factoring in the swing speed.

Scimitar just for whirlwind.

For my Macer I use a Diamond Mace and a War Hammer, though I'm inclined to find a UBWS scimitar instead of my war hammer for whirlwind.

Well, I guess I take my handy dandy assassin armor suit for granted sometimes. Nothing like an extra 20 SSI on top of 25-30 that's on a weapon....:D

Even at 45-50 SSI an Ornate Axe will swing at 1.5 seconds if you have between 150 and 180 stamina. At 180 stamina you will swing at 1.25 with 50 ssi. I'm willing to bet that with the Assassin suit you're not at 180 stamina.

I stand by my post!

If you're using the Assassin armor, you're probably using the mace and sheild + jackals collar too? Sitting at 158 stam?

164 stam, and with DF I'm at 1.25 with the Ornate, which is why I usually go with the Rune Blade for Peerless The Ornate is good for things that you can down in a couple of hits. Things like Peerless I use the Rune Blade, and of course in crowd situations the Twinkling Scimitars so I can use the whirlwind special.

This thread is just what I was looking for. My thanks to Lynk and Connor for their expertise.

I have two similar dexxers... One is a human macer Sampire and the other is an elf swordsman Wammy. I got the swords recommendation above. Are there any further thoughts on mace weapons? I've been using Katrina's Crook for it's leeches.

Also, are there no decent fencing weapons for these sorts of characters?

Thanks!

I keep trying things that are NOT scimitars, such as Ornate Axes, and I just keep coming back to the radiant scimitars. It is pretty easy to find slayer versions of them, and the DPS is just consistently higher than an Axe, even when I've been whammed really bad and loose a lot of stamina.
I do not have a super-suit, no Jackal's collar, and Dex is at 137, up to 144 or so with potions.

Still, I wish I could hit harder. Even with EOO, Perfection, and Slayer, I will only do up to about 140 when Armor Ignore kicks in. I have an archer friend who can hit for 200+ and I am so envious!!!

But I really do like this template. Still learning how to own the lesser bosses like Lurg. I've got Miasma and Ice Fiends down pat, and can practically walk away from the keyboard while fighting them. That is great for getting Fame and Karma up while taking care of other business.

Still, if a Balron gets in a good two hits in a row I can be dead quickly. And Greater Dragons and Reptalons just plain smite me.

Nope, not using Jackal's Collar. I've got a crafted gorget that rounds out my resists at near all 70's (3 points low in cold) with SI 7 and LMC 8 on it, which brings my stamina to 165. When you take the stam equivalent of 20 SSI into account, using the Assassin suit puts me at what would equal 225 stam. Then add in the 5% SSI on my ring for another 15 stam to make a 240 stam equivalent. :lick:

Ever tried designing a char that can effectively keep Divine Fury on all the time?
+10 HCI, +10 DI, +10 SSI, -20 DCI
... DCI is pretty easy to over-stack anyway.

No, I haven't, but then I've been using the Assassin armor the entire time Connor has been a Sampire. Prior to that I'd primarily played my archer.

I would totally use the assassin suit, but I have never been able to get the gloves or legs to drop :/

Connor....i'm sure you've covered this in a different post...but besides the Assassin armor, what else are you sportin' for resists and whatnot? thanx

I got very lucky in alternate Moonglow and got 2 pairs of legs from SL's. I traded one pair for the gloves and the rest is history. I'd say it was harder to find just the right gorget than it was to get the gloves & legs for the suit. The one I have now I paid a very hefty sum for, and had to have it xsharded from Europa.

I've got 12 Fire on my ring and the 2% cold earrings. Other than that the gorget filled all of the holes in the resists. Of course I use magic reflection (or whatever that spell is) for the extra resists it gives in fire-energy. Death for me is a real pain in the ass, necessitating a trip to the house.

Connor - do you have to use soul stones to take Magery on and off in order to get the Magic Reflection? I tried this, and I really like the extra resists of that spell, though sometimes the spell goes away and I have to recast it. It is enough to get me to all 70's with the Heart of the Lion, and almost to all 70's with a Rune Beetle Carapace.

So - how important are soul stones to your template? And do you need to cast Magic Reflection every time you die in order to get good resists?

I use a +15 Magery spellbook, ring & brace and use a scroll to cast it.

Yes, I have to cast MR every time I die since the changes. I use soulstones whenever I decide to swap anatomy out for resist or spirit speak.

Aha, finally - a reason for my Mage to gain Inscription! I just raised up from 33 to 55 skill and made a nice stack of Magic Reflection scrolls, and put them in a box with items totaling about 34 Magery skill. So now my sampire can just go to the box and cast from the scrolls - no need for reagents or soul stones. Thank you Connor!
