I just noticed this post http://vboards.stratics.com/2048576-post34.html and was windering whether we are getting, for the 3rd consecutive Year, the same exact Thanksgiving Event or whether there will be anything different.

I've had enough of Cornucopias etc. ....................
until the other day there was people crying that there is no turkey this year, and now you are complaining because they have added it?

This is what I was saying in my threat a few weeks ago. NEW PRIZES!!! We need new prizes like colored fall leaves, not turkeys that are even harder to kill then last year and the same old rewards. What’s this year? They take lessons from the SA monsters, lay hidden and ambush us as we pass… killing us faster then we can react? Super-mega-lame.

We have a really large publish, and killer pumpkins, and you want new items for Thanksgiving too?
I think we need GrimmOmen to tell us exactly what processes are involved in adding just one new graphic to the game.

As I recall, the Thanksgiving turkeys etc were coded by a staff member in their spare time, and only the compiled code exists.
It's not possible to tweak the rewards, and the whole thing only exists because of the goodwill of an individual.
The existence of turkeys is thanks to an act of kindness. Don't lets knock it or be greedy!

How about having again Turkeys this year but with new rewards ??

I mean, does it have to be the exact same items as for the past 2 years ?

Don't we have Event Moderators adding new items to the game all the time and on multiple shards too ?

I mean, if it was "that" hard to add new items to the game, how come that Event Moderators can add so many of them on so many Shards and so frequently ??

actually I think is fine to have the same thing of the last years... devs are doing too many things actually...
I just imagine 4 people workning inside that office 2 working on new artwork and the others working to fix things while the big boss whip them to make them work faster :whip:

Seriously, for this year we already got more than we can expect, and also they have added the turkeys even when probably it was not planned... so dont pull too much the rope :p

I guess I can agree with you.

I mean, there's already much to do in Shame with all of the new monsters and loot drops.....

Too bad that, with no new items, I think the Turkeys will not be hunted much and players will prefer to go to Shame instead......

Damn these players, going off and doing what they think is more fun and not murdering turkeys as they should be... do they think they are meant to be just enjoying playing a game???

Sometimes, Popps, you have a valid point - but at others, you describe it perfectly in your original post in this thread,

There have been new gifts in the clean up, vet rewards, Christmas gifts...We've got more new stuff in Shame and we similar upgrades are coming to other areas. New artwork, arenas, probably more content we're not aware of yet. And during that rather large workload and deluge of new items, they repeated a seasonal spawn. There are only so many hours in the day. Only so many devs to do the work. In fairness, I think you need to give the devs a break here.

If they'd added new items to the turkeys too, someone would have complained that they didn't have time to work both spawns. You certainly can't please all UO players all of the time :D

If you're tired of turkeys, try Shame. There are new items there...

How often do the event moderator items involve new graphics?
In one word. Never. All EM's can do is add a nifty title to a NPC item such as a sash or cloak. No special mods.Nothing that doesn't already exsist in the game.

This, is merely a smokescreen. Event Moderators do not add new items.

True, but a good workaround could be to place a NPC (Like "Sir Rambo the chicken hunter") accepting those old rewards as payment for other stuff. No need to dig into compiled code.

Thanks to the dev team.

I don't even have time to fully enjoy what is already in the game but it's good to know that the dev team adds stuff for those without a proper RL. *eyes the OP*

You guys can toss the drops from the turkey event into a trash can. That gives you points for the new dyes. There you go .. new rewards...

Honestly… if staffers really did do the original turkey thing in their spare time… out of the goodness of their hearts… I would be 100% amazed… and also 100% disgusted that the company doesn’t treat them better on the clock. The turkey graphic is amazing… makes me wonder why there isn't a smaller version wondering around in the woods like any other beastie. I still can't figure out why gorillas are wondering around in woodlands, seeing there is only one place on the planet they live in nature and it's not in the medieval world such as UO immolates.

Then the mention of coding. I literally just had a friend PM me to warn me how unbelievably nasty they are and to stay away from an area I own a house because 2 are wondering around. I told him they shouldn’t attack unless you’re involved with them… but the first generation were very manageable with a provoker. Year 2, it was dam near impossible to control and the fun was sucked out of it… and for the same rewards. IF the 3rd wave is the same rewards, it really defeats any reason to mess with them. The new cornucopias will still give you 2009 vintage bottles of wine. New prizes… no question, we need them.

This mention… saying we just got amazing new graphics for the pumpkin monsters… that seems to be the only original thing that’s not recollected, outside the small virtue banners, we’ve seen for the better part of the year. Everything is turning into a carbon copy and that’s not fair to us paying customers. That’s why I really hope Christmas is all new and all wonderful… and can't wait to see previews! :D

I have no idea how the backpacks of EMs work other then… for event items, they must have a “make last” button of whatever event rare is being handed out and can make whatever they need... that is on the menu, approved, and otherwise just a recovered and renamed something that already exists. Two totally different worlds.

But… bottom line… the mentality should be “Why not?”… and not “Why?”. We players don’t get paid… they do. And sometimes… these dudes and chicks do amazing work and we love them for it. So… keep up the good work, please.

Nope, we should expect a hell of alot more for our high priced subs.(newer and not so old as UO games are all lower monthly subs than UO)

We have just gotten used to being fed scraps thats all.

Okay I wasn't around for the turkey thing...and I can't find any info about it here other then EM events and such.

So what's with the turkey's? Why are they so hard to kill, is there a quest or do you just find one wandering around and kill it....do we get a cooked turkey? Like the roasted pig? That would be cool.

I missed them before also. I thought I'd check them out - bad idea. I guessing its for groups because it hit me once and I went from 99hp to 14hp. The 2 EV's I cast did no damage. I'm staying away from them.

I can't even find one...I figure my rune beetle/mare could take em on but I don't know!

Where did you see them?

I went and talked to Al at the zoo and all he said was that they need to be eradicated because they are harming the ecosystem..poor turkeys :(

Okay I found a few....interesting thing is that when I died and logged to save my pets, when I logged back in I got a system message that said *You cannot receive a gift when you're dead*

What does that mean?

I have to say these are killer turkeys but WOW the graphics are really cool! They look like real turkeys! But they pull you in, even when I was far off and just attacked with my beetle he pulled me into it and it hurt!

I think you're correct, the HP is at ???? so they are pretty tough, 110 wrestle and no magic so not sure why it's pulling me to it.

Still very cool, wish I could tame it :)

Larisa, you can find the turkeys in the woods just about anywhere in Trammel and Felucca. The ones I encountered last night were located near the orc fort below Yew. I can't remember if they also spawn in Ilshenar, Tokuno, or Ter Mur.

If I remember right they cream just about any other creature except each other. Best char to use is a provo bard.
I could be wrong, I decided not to bother with them last year.

Yeah I would have to say a bard/tamer would be best.

http://i41.***********/doowzt.jpg

Here are the stats on the one I saw, actually there were a few in that area but only lore'd the one.

Very strong..but in reality these birds might be big and stupid but they sure can bite hard! My friend raises turkeys and if they get mad look out! lol. Usually they are very docile though.

Thanks for the link, will look that over while I'm nursing my wounds ;)

Well looks like I'm going to have to re-do a bard lol.

Mage/bard work ok? Or tamer bard better? I can work up music/diso/provo and stone taming/lore/vet off and put those on.

Thank you again Tina, for the life of me I couldn't find links like that, I just typed in Killer Turkey and didn't get much :(

So, as a Solo Mage (GM Mage, Med, Eval Int, etc. rest of skills centered around T-Hunter, i.e., no other COMBAT skills) it sounds like I should just COMPLETELY AVOID these turkeys...? And, if so, does that leave anything in the Thanksgiving stuff I CAN do? (Just an honest question, from someone recently back from 10 years ago when there weren't turkeys. :-D My Mage/T-Hunter is my only really "strong" char at this point.)

It seems like there's always lots of returning players, like me, so I'm excited! It will be my first UO Thanksgiving ever as they didn't used to do it years ago.

Thanks devs!!

Wait did you say they ambush this year?!?! Wow this is going to be awesome. Now the only trouble is where do I go tonight, do I turkey hunt or do I hit shame? Devs I curse you for giving me two awesome things at once! That being said thanks for the patch and the turkeys around my favorite holiday.

The ones I ran across last night were clearly visible and not aggressive. I hung around a few of them for several minutes getting screen shots and they didn't do anything but walk around among the trees. I suppose if I'd tried to attack them, though, they would have been nasty and mean.

I think I knocked one off solo last year with a pretty wimpy newbiesh peace tamer character I had on Formosa but can't for the life of me remember how I did it. Stomped it with some bouras probably and did a lot of running and rezzing? I don't remember now. Just experiment and find out what works for you and be patient. The nice thing about them is how widespread they are and if you get clobbered, running to a healer isn't usually much of a hassle.

exactly!
Turkey items have a relativily low point value in turn-ins. This made me think they were just going to flip the event on again this year. I still have a good time turkey hunting so it will be fun. Definitely better than nothing. And I have an all 120s real skill bard this year.

This thing right here. An archer will help or can accomplish this solo but it takes an extended amount of time. I didn't have much to do with it last year, but I still have just the one harvester and this year I plan to change that. :)

Thanks Devs!

Oh, btw someone else commented on the awesomeness of the turkey graphic and I concur. Can't wait to see more stuff of like graphic(s) quality.

A Disco/Provo Bard can kill 5 Turkeys in like 25 minutes. And never, ever die, ever.

I would not use an Archer or Mage...or really anything besides a disco/provo bard actually. We tried them all, but found the bard by far the best.

If an EV hits the Turkeys they teleport you...if you hit Turkeys with an arrow they can teleport you...any spell you hit Turkeys with can teleport.

But carefully done with a provo/disco type musical personality (with peace to check corpses as well), and there will be nests and stuffings and harrows for all!!
