Saltpeter question

I know this is likely a stupid question, but I'm away from the game at the moment so I can't go and just check it out. Is mining the *only* way now to obtain saltpeter? Are any alchemists selling it? When I saw that they were making it mineable, I thought that was in "addition to" not "instead of." ?

There is only one alchy now selling it. That would be the original alchy on the sea market. So in all shards with tram/fel there is really 2 one on each facet).

I think most of us thought the same thing. like cdavbar says, there is the one alchemist on the floating docks, or you can mine it, or buy it from other players.

Anybody know what the current price is for saltpeter from the alchemist on their shard?

I will have to look at the Sea Market again then - on Siege, I think they might have removed the alchemist from the Sea Market.

Zero Nitre found mining dungeons so far.

Luckily I was one of the people who kept the saltpeter alchemists built up to 999 during the day those first few days. I've got a nice stash of it for when they decide to make UO:High Seas fun. The entertaining newness has faded into sheer annoyance. Booster One has bombed out badly.

Me too - I bought about 50K saltpeter at 8 gold each, and mined about 10K more. That's more than I'll ever need and will put the rest on my vendor or give to my guildmates.

What do you feel is a fair vendor price for SP? Blackpowder? Charges? Ammo?

I don't mind selling saltpeter for less than the going rate, but blackpowder, charges and and anything that takes Alchemy skill to make is going to cost you. If you don't know what I mean, go make a batch and see for yourself.

152 on LS. I tried mining it and after 3 days I had about 400 saltpeter. Oh wait, that was my wife and I together mining for hours on end. I 1st bought it at 40gp each and it has never reset. It just keeps going up. I used up the 10k saltpeter I got that 1st time and went back to find it was 140gp each. So, since I wanted to hunt pirates, we decided to go ahead and pay it. 1.4 million for 10k saltpeter, which wont last very long at all. Now, after we use up this last bit, we're lookin at scrapping our hunting anything with ship cannons simply because we can not afford to pay millions for the stuff. Absolutely ******** if you ask me. I can only hope this is a bug or an oversight by the devs. You cant fix stupid, but you CAN fix mistakes.

I'm having better luck mining saltpeter than you are - averaging maybe 1500 an hour. I just checked LS player vendors and see they are charging 300/400 per for 10,000 saltpeter and 10K per heavy powder charge. Okay, I'd say that's gouging a bit.

I'd have to add up how many I use per pirate, but I think it was less than 20 heavy cannon shots each with heavy grapeshot.

SWe can always hope that they respawn the vendors every few months and so don't make it a total pain.

There is a vendor in Luna on Chessie selling 100 shot cannon kits for 4 million gold.

Having tried making cannon supplies to sell on my vendors I found it was going to eat up all my several hours of playtime and more to lightly stock that vendor due to all the crafting steps required.

I've said the Devs made a mountain of brownie points with me that they'd be years of screwing up badly to use up. The Devs must have found that it blocked their view or something. Dang mountain looks like a dinosaur-killer came in on it with the release of and the further screwing over of High Seas they've done. I'm going to be taking any rave advertising for future boosters with a couple tons of salt after this.

Hmm thinking about it I think the devs wish a classic shard back.
Now for best salpeter mining you do it in a fel dungeon.
Instead of miner gettting pked outside when mining, they now can get pked inside dungeons.

Maybe thats the motive for the saltpeter decisions the Devs have made.

"You want to get almost enough saltpeter in a somewhat less ridiculous amount of time? Go play ganker bait in Fel! It'll be a great way for the Gank,,, ah YOU to get saltpeter because there will be so few spots you would be doing it in Fel, you'll be easy to find, kill and loot."

1500 an hour?!? man u gotta give up the secret! We have learned to fight them a lil more effeciently, so the stash will last longer than the 1st but I'm wonderin' just exactly what 'ima do when it does run out. They gotta give us more ways to get it. Prices will be insane to even the wealthiest players on most shards very soon.
