Rune Beatles

What's the best, your favorite place to tame Runnies? I'm working northwest of the fan dancer dojo. I've been taming for maybe 10 total hrs...very hard to find a keeper! The red mages and elite ninja are a real nuisance!

I think there are only 2 places where Rune Beetles spawn. So not a whole lot of choice...

There's the Dojo, where you've been hunting and Yamandon Point; at the east side of the island. The only spawn there are two Rune Beetles and the Yamandon.
If you lure the Yamandon away the two remaining beetles are easy pickings.

My beetle run starts at the Tokuno Champ spawn, follows the coast west and eventually returns to the fan dancer dojo.

I see about 20 beetles in there (an approximation, I haven't counted) and can usually pick out one good one from the mess.

I used to use the spot northwest of the dojo but now mostly go to the spot with the yamandon. Pull the yamandon away and it is much easier to do your taming there. Have never spotted a ninja there (thank goodness, what a nuisance they are) and rarely do the tsuki wander up there.

If you do have to use the spot northwest of the dojo, I usually run about halfway up the side of the hills to where there is an opening in the trees that run parallel to the hill. Generally nothing new spawns in that location, right next to the hill. If you have a rune marked for that spot, even better so you don't pull any ninjas from somewhere else along with you so the little fiends wait until you get distracted to bop ya.

If all is clear in that hillside area, then I run sort of southwest and try to lure a beetle down over from where the healer usually hangs out by the small fenced area. If I end up with a mage too, they are pretty easy to kill. Doesn't always work out as planned, but that spot halfway up along the hillside may be a good second-choice area if you're good at getting things to follow you.

I usually use a peace tamer and area peace if there's other spawn around in the "selection area," and then go into war mode and tap tap tap on the one I want to keep it following me. Area peace again as you go if the rest of the crowd tries to follow and keep tapping on the victim....err...candidate. Since it was area peaced along with the rest of the gang, it is usually not in an extremely nasty frame of mind and the tapping in war mode is just enough of an annoyance to keep it following. Any spells it casts generally don't hurt too much. The area peacing, of course, doesn't last as long as direct peacing does but it does seem to make a difference. And if you use KR, I LOVE being able to see the little blue notes hovering around the critter to show it is being calmed. Hehe. (Don't mind me and my little plugs for KR. Kinda chatty this morning.)

I am in the Yamandon(sp) camp. As has been said, get him to slither after you and show him some new UO scenery, hide - peace - what ever and run back.

I tame one, have it attack the other and keep on turning them over till I either get bored or find a keeper.

The Coin isn't all that bad either.

If you lure away the yamandon, don't recall directly back to your rune up by the beetles. Go to another place first and THEN go back to the beetles. Luring away mr. yamandon and then recalling right back to the beetles usually brings him right along with ya.

OP here...
First thanks for all suggestions and info!
I have a rune to Yamadon Point but forgot about it. I remember now, it was a lot more peaceful!
I seem to remember a busy spawn at the Lotus Lakes on Isamu-jima (that scared me)?

Yamadon Point for me.
Crappy dial-up connection keeps me busy at the one west of the dojo.
Usually just lure old Yama away (far, far away), then start killing off the rejects with my Cu (keeps the healing skill in good working order, and saves bandies).
When I find a keeper, I just peace it, gate to stable, dump cu, go back and start taming.
Nice and peaceful.

I stone hiding and stealth onto my tamer, and walk around west of the Dojo and Yamadon point for a day or three until I find exactly the one I want. I then honor myself, tame it, and wisk it off to the stables, where it bonds a week later. Meanwhile, I stone eval and med back onto my character and continue happily on in my usual form of mage tamer..................
