Run mouse in seperate thread...

I know this is probably a real noob question.. but I honestly can not figure it out for the life of me. I run windows 7 on a semi new dell computer I recently started playing UO again after a long break. What's happening is real strange and very very frustrating. I can not for the life of me keep the 'Run mouse in seperate thread' box checked! When I try to play the game without it check my pointer is very unstable and bounces around when I hover over edges of objects, or try to open a container.

However when I go into options, check the box, apply it, save it and shut down the client, then open a new one it works fine. However once I quit playing for the night or open a second client on the same computer it's unchecked again! Am I missing something simple? I googled it and saw some info about going into a file and editing it but I couldn't find that file.

Also i'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong section i'm just at my wits end here.

I play on the classic client.

Not a noob question at all jrok. I've played for over 7 years, bought a new computer with Win7 64 and put my Logitech G5 mouse on it. Had to do the same thing, run in a separate thread to not get fluttering and stuttering. The only solution I've found, is just keep checking that box, every time you open a character that doesn't have it checked it seems to mess up all the others. Eventually, I got almost all my chars checked and it doesn't revert often anymore. The problem is, when I travel, I use my laptop with Vista and that separate thread messes it up, then go back home and my desktop is messed up again. Maybe someone on here can help us both.

I think the fix for this is to run through all chars on all accounts at once and check the box. Once it is applied to evryone of your chars it shouldn't revert again.

I'll give that a try.. thanks Gheed... if anyone else has any other info on this question please help us out. It's so stupidly frustrating.. I can't even begin to word how pissed off it makes me lol.

Try hitting alt+f4 when the client opens.

Cheers

It's windows 7 + a wireless mouse and there is no fix.............. I bought a logitech gaming mouse with cord and have had no problem. It's windows game acceleration that causes your mouse to act crazy. Took me along time to get the answer myself.

My mouse has a cord and the funky acting cursor has nothing to do with any options in Windows because it only does this on UO.

once again into the breach ...

the classic client doesn't save your settings unless you click the big red QUIT button in the upper right hand corner of the login screen to shut it down - that's when it actually saves your settings

you've probably been X'ing out the client window all these times - ergo, not saving your settings

not many people know this (and to tell you the truth, I'm not 100% sure I'm right on this one but give it a shot)

This is true. Or if you let your client time out... settings changed that session are lost. That is why it is important to log out a new char propperly as soon as you finish setting all the macros.

But I have had settings revert while logging out properly as well. The most common Issue I come across is disabling the annoying double click to pathfind option. I have changed it, logged out, logged in on another char with enabled, loged back in my original char and it's right back to enabled again.

I have tried this making certain I log out properly. At some point in time it always re-enables. I went through all chars and disabled it at once. I have not had the issue since. I have been many months without dbl-click pathfinding now.

logging out and then logging right back in without hitting the quit button to actually close the client isn't gonna do it - you have to close the client completely (all of them) to save your settings - just logging out isn't gonna do anything

I think it was their way to deter us from holiday trading on shards because I'll never do it again after the last round. *wipes brow*

Something somewhere changed in the last year, I never had problems with it before. Tina Small has also created a discussion thread about it. Who knows the cause *shrugs*

I ALWAYS use the big red Quit button to exit the game, no shortcuts, and yes, when you change the separate thread button you do have to completely get out of UO and UOAssist for it to take effect. I do know that.
