Role Playing?

Greetings everyone!

I have just recently got back into Ultima after a 10 year break, and have decided to brave Siege Perilous!

I just have a small question: As a role player I was wondering if any of you could point of where the role playing community generally hang out, or maybe provide some links to active role playing guilds, or any info at all on the current state of RP in this particular server.

I did have a scan on google but couldn't really find anything! I'm sure there must some like minded people still playing on Siege, and any help/info would be greatly appreciated!

there are folks on this server who are RP minded, but there is really not a lot going on RPwise at the moment. That doesn't mean you couldn't start something.

Hi there, welcome to Siege.

Roleplaying on Siege is a very unique experience.

In a traditional sense, if you are looking for roleplaying I know that in terms of 'required' roleplay:

CWS roleplays a 'good' aligned community based around their home of Wispwood.
TDO roleplays a 'outlaw' aligned guilds.

In terms of roleplay friendly guilds:

Gilfane (good)
Nightstalkers (evil)
Thieves (well, thieves)
And many other guilds are roleplay friendly based on their roles such as TnT, C8V, etc.


How Siege is unique is simple. A TnT member can simply walk up and murder someone, any time, any place. They need not come to someone and say 'your money or your life'. How many murderers really say 'your money or your life'? They are playing the role of a murderer, because our land allows for it. Conversely, I, the 'good' guy in this scenario can see a TnT murdering an innocent and stop them. I also don't need to yell 'Halt your evil actions' because I know some TnT simply murder. So I can play the 'role' of the 'good' guy by defending this person, or my guildmates/allies.

You will find there are people here that will come to you and say your money or your life. You will find that there are people here that will simply murder you, no questions asked.

So, the point of all this. Yes, if you are seeking roleplaying in the traditional sense, there are roleplaying avenues. Though they are not as active as many of us 'roleplayers' would prefer, particularly story driven roleplaying. However, roleplaying does not need to exist only in the traditional sense - for far more roleplaying exists on this server if one expands their horizons as to what roleplaying really is.

In addition to Lord Bruin's advice, please understand that no one may accept the
premise of your roleplaying...even if it is well explained by yourself.
You may mean well in your play with others, but they will only know you based upon
what you do.
Your roleplaying is determined by what you do. This game's play is very fast action and
you will have no extra time to speak, canned messages are...often ignored.
You will find that it is hard to stay in character...there are lots of <OOC> remarks mixed
in the conversations.
Note of caution: Just because someone you just met is nice, that person could be asking
his friends to come over to dryloot you.
Trust must be earned over long time...with some players the trust game is dead.

greetings traveler , welcome to our fair shores.
you have the look of one who has been gone long , im sure you will find many things have changed .
much of our world is different than it was 10 years ago , but you have made the best choice in location . i am told there are what the sages call "shards" where the people are divided by a cursed land called trammel . you will find no such division here .

our land is somewhat smaller than others ive heard of and people get to know one another quite well . even changing your appearance and name may not help you . if you strive for the greater good , you will gain a good reputation . if you cheat and lie you will also be known for that. here we must live together . here there are consequences for your actions .

life here is hard but the joy of success is much greater for surviving the challenge.

if you were around 10 years ago you surely must have learned as i did .
carry only what you can afford to lose and have backup supplies waiting for the inevitable. the young folks sometimes never learn that lesson and find life here unbearable when disaster strikes.

there is a group of fine folks who will help new players . even if you are simply returning from a long absence , i would reccomend finding these folks .

you get one month of assistance and many here will respect the NEW flag and leave you alone. (some will kill you anyway , but it helps)
they are also quite helpful for teaching you the customs of the land and learning the social structure .

Welcome to the world of Siege. It would be in your best interests to affiliate with NEW. It is the best way to learn the ways of the world and to prepare yourself for your future as a citizen. As Bruin and Yahax have said role playing here is unique and your actions will speak louder than your words. Also unique here is the fact that there are many "red" thieves and killers who are well respected in the community. They are good at what they do, they challenge us to awareness, and often have great stories to tell of their exploits. And they are often the first to help out newcomers to get a start here with such necessities as gold and armor. There are also those "wolves in sheeps clothing" who regardless of their characters good/evil/neutral alignment have betrayed the trust of members of the shard community and are not trusted by anyone.

Thank you everyone for your helpful information, I will definitely take it all into account and shall look into the links provided. One of the main reasons I want to create a character on siege is the fact that community whether RP orientated or otherwise is important and for the added excitement of being a potential victim to the "unwholesome" types!

I do not expect to be trusted easily - like in the real world I can be anyone, and I look forward to earning the trust of the community through my actions.

Welcome back

Not many do RP on Siege, however roleplayers are welcome here and if you try to RP some evil may go easier on you because they like you and maybe they even will start to RP back if they learn you won't fly as soon you see them.

If we want more RP on Siege, some have to start. If a guild is known as a RP guild they may gain more respect than non RP guilds, even from the guilds who mostly just kill, loot and leave.

Also the new char we got will allow you to RP even when you can't get close to your killer(s)

TDO is not active RP'ing outlaws right now as I have limit playtime now and don't have the time to get the guild up running and I'm EU time and there is not enough online to RP with so I have a ugly blue color at the moment :/

I have a little story from Siege was more active. It show that even a non RP'er can RP if his target start to RP.

In the past, Siege had Orcs, Elves, Pirates, Undeads, Brigands, Vampires and Indians RP red guilds, we can only hope life will get back to Siege and we will see that back.
