So I've been running around Ilshenar on Baja, being killed repeatedly because some bright spark designer decided to put all the resurrection points in major spawn zones, and looking for all the old password areas - the wispish hive that you get to with "Manifestationsofwisdom"; the chamber of the Virtues that you reach with "Roclasmpy," and so on.

None of them seem to work anymore.

Why have these been locked off? It would be much easier to just delete the oracles for those places that were part of a quest, and leave the places there. The passwords are little-known anyway, these locations are great for roleplaying, and they provide a bit of incentive for people to go to the more remote parts of Ilshenar, the parts that they avoid because every monster there can run faster than an unmounted character and some bright spark designer decided-... but I have already covered that, of course.

Is this just a Baja thing, or have they been locked off across all the shards? If so, why?

I don't know about those particular locations, but can't you use a moongate to get to a shrine at another Ilsh Gate that is not camped by spawn? Spirituality and Sacrifice come to mind offhand.

Yeah, honestly, gate and shrine locations should be cleared up. Like the Shrine in Destard, completely useless, as you get ganked by water elementals as soon as you ressurect, no way to survive.

You raise an excellent point and that makes me angry! (I jest.) I may have been exaggerating in the heat of the moment, since I'd just died eight times when I made the post and lost all my poppies.

However, the Roclasmpy rock is down near the Ki-Rin Passage, where the only resurrection point for miles (the nearest gate is about a five minute run away) is a mysterious sparkling tree in a grotto. There are air and fire elementals half a screen away on either side, and the tree itself is right beside a spawn point for Efreets. Tragedy is inevitable unless you are a competent player, which I, sadly, am not.

Still, danger is the whole point of Ilshenar. I'm happy to die repeatedly, but I'd like it to be for a reason (and in this case, the reason was that I wanted to see a bunch of sparkling coffins, because that type of thing brings me joy.)

The words don't work any longer on GL, but there's an item next to the rock that you double click to send you there.

I think they wanted to allow access to everyone, and most players are too simple to keep notes on power words and things that add depth and soul to a game.

The spot has been used by EM Malachi on GL several times now... Just walking over the item sends you to the shrine... Once your inside, take a look at whats on the pentagram in the middle.

Then if you are really curious say "desires" or my full name out loud....

Wasn't that used to raise the Island that Exodus "lived" on in the Ultima games?

No its only on GL.

And yes it was.

On GL, the skull is an oracle that remembers certain people who found its pieces.

Yes, there are some. I believe 5-7 total, though our EM stated at some future point others may also earn the favor of the skull responding to their name.

Basically, there were waves of bad guys in various locales throughout UO. When the 'boss guys' were killed, it unlocked a box that was near-ish the fighting with a piece of the skull. So, essentially, you had teams of people fighting while some waited by the box for it to click open when the creatures were destroyed. Those who were by the boxes and retrieved the pieces were rewarded with choosing the skulls location and having it respond to their name.

edit: The set up was pretty interesting, tbh. There was a team of 'good guys' and 'bad guys' both wanting the skull for different reasons.

Saying 'desires' should tell you what it wants based on the event is currently linked to. Its said the same thing for several months now as it hasn't recently been used.

On Europa atleast (don't know about other shards), you can no longer access the Inu event area from the Exodus dungeon, where there's a scroll / deed on the floor with the password "Masteropenthydoor"...

It's a shame really, I like to PvM and that area looks like such a nice challenging area. Ancient Liches in Ilshenar, I can just imagine the laughter in our guildchannel that ensues after I'm being reskilled repeatedly by a paragon one!

But it is not to be, meh...
