Resource gathering template help (700 skill cap)

100 Lumberjacking, Carpentry, Mining, Tinkering will be used.

I want to be able to both kill elementals and mark runes (using mark scrolls are an option). The templates I have thought up so far are:

110 weapon skill
75 chiv (increase damage/healing)
with 60 magery (use mark scroll), and 55 meditation
or 95 magery, and 20 points left over?

110 magery (use mage weapon)
100 tactics
90 points left (meditation?)

110 magery (use mage weapon)
80 vet
80 animal lore (so i dont have to spend 2 hours looking for pet rez)
30 points left over (maybe med or tactics or increase vet/lore to 95 each?)

Is it possible to get by using mark scrolls at lower or possibly no magery (with human joat bonus)?
Can valorite elementals destroy a Blackthorn's Kryss? What about virtue suit armor?
Will high end elementals be too strong or annoying to kill with just 110 weapon skill or will they die in just a few hits?

Go with this option as shadow and valorite elementals are immune to magery and pets. My suggestion is go with archery for your mele skill just because staying away from the ells is a good idea. My miners archery is still less than GM and has no problems. I would also only go with 30 in magery if you plan on using mark scrolls and dump the rest of your points into tactics.

And modify as follows

instead of 90 med, take 85 Chivalry
find a cheap magery 115 PS and use it, and go to 115 magery with the other 5 points.

Wear a medable regen suit as a human, and get a SC mage weapon ele slayer (preferably one with mana leech - or even mana regen 2 if a bow, club or staff made/enhanced with bloodwood). Jewelry should include +magery bonuses sufficient to offset your mage weapon.

You'll be able to fight the elementals reliably, and also be able to cast 8th circle summons reliably as well - who cares if they can't hurt a valorite or shadow ele, as long as the ele is attacking THEM as you kill it with your mage weapon? Plus, the summons don't require Eval....

Thats good never thought of that.

But me, i've been done with crazy hybrid templates for awhile. My main miner looks like this:

Mining GM
Smith GM - realy has no reason for this
Archery going to 120
Tactics going to 110
Anatomy going to 110
Healing GM
Chiv 80

I mine in Fel can't say the last time I was PK'ed but I make a good impression on a twink that thinks i'm easy meat. Me and a GM beetle will put down the wannabe. A true PvP red, I don't stand a chance, but like I said it don't happen very often.

its a sad day when a miner is required to eat a 120 archery scroll to survive while gathering ore.

Um... nope, tactics would not help in this template at all.

You need 100+ Magery, reasonably high eval-int (magery's tactics) and either med or focus. I use mage-bows all the time without any issues on elementals, so there's no problem with this. Plus you can take out mid-level spawn with a simple elemental or daemon summons. Resist can be helpful if you occasionally fight magic creature spawn, but otherwise I'd stick to the basics.

Taming isn't useful for you with the gathering skills, unless you were going to keep taming beetles or resurrect dead pets.

I can kill all ore elementals with magery using Energy Vortex, and Swords of Prosperity (mage weapon -0) for the shadow/valorite elementals with just GM Magery. Takes a minute or two for the val ellies, but not a big problem...

Leaves the rest of my template free to do whatever. I've made him a full blown crafter (Smithing to legendary, Tailoring, Mining, Carpentry, Magery, Lumberjacking, Tinkering), so no tactics or weapon skill at all...

You'd have to figure out what you'd like though

A little chiv and tactics help.

For the longest time I wouldn't get looting rights at Peerless (after party break inside) and Doom with my mage, just using spells and summons. Once I added GM tactics and sufficient chiv to cast Enemy of One, I get rights all the time when I use a SC mage weapon bow instead of casting spells - in fact, with tactics &amp; EoO, the arrows are hiting for about 2-3 times what my eles are hitting for, and at minimal mana cost (allowing me much easier recasting of the eles when they drop - even with 110 mana, 40% LMC, GM med and decent MR, the mage kept running out of mana trying to do summons and spell attacks).

Melisande can't mana vampire you into being unable to fire a bow, after all....
