With that Focus level, mana regen should be pretty good ... however it will be noticably slower than if you had Focus and Med and actively meditated. My scribe can recover 165 Mana really fast!

I'd say you're trading off the ability to meditate/rapid recover for a more passive recover method. In battle areas that may not be desired but I would like to know how you make out.

If you have the crystalline ring you can save 40 points and put those into Med and have 120 focus/magery and 40 med.

The mana regeneration formula.

Right there for your examination.

Also it was relayed in the UO Guide article someone else linked to.

It's difficult to entirely replace Med or Focus with Mana Regen items, because the formula is such that one needs Med or Focus to "unlock" the full potential of MR, and because MR is subject to diminishing returns.

its rough to completely replace it.

16mr and 100med

is about equal to

16mr 120 focus and 50 med

My experience is even 20 med can make a huge difference if your suit has a lot of mana regen.

The item property mana regen is stronger if you have meditation.

Meaning 5 MR will give less mana regen than 20 meditation and 5 MR, even after subtracting the mana regen from meditation.

If your question is "is it possible to get enough MR from items so that you don't need Med/Focus (even on a mage)?" The answer is yes.

However, it is not possible to get as much ('completely replace') mana regen from just items as you can from items + skills.

Answer to OP's question :

- 40% Lower Mana Cost

- 150 Int

- 14+ Mana Regeneration

- High Mana Increase

If you have these stats, you don't need meditation.

My mysticmage has 120 focus and human 20 medit, 22 MR and nonmeddable armor. Character does fine in fieldfights, and in duel till you run out of mana. Char has good manapool and decent regen, but I'd recommend killing ur opponent before running out of mana in duel, since trying to regen enough while defending can be bit hard. But in field and groupfights it's no problem.

I'm honestly surprised no one has said anything about the title "Man Regeneration."

Regardless, meditation helps your mana regen a LOT, considering it increases the effectiveness of MR items as well.

yes,playing around with 1 char.

120 fokus/150 int/170 mana and 16/18 MReg

Mage/SW/Myst/

Since you have the sword skill, add a fast mana leech weapon for PVM, such as good radiant scimitar. If done right, this will replace mana much faster than regeneration can, but then you can't just stand back from the fight.

In the math from the Dev I don't see the diminishing returns from adding MR items (item intensity), I only see that it will be diminished the higher the focus and meditation (base item bonus) but not per item MR.

Am I missing this stacking item MR diminish which is mentioned in the stratics guide?

:EDIT:
maybe i do see it...
Is it in the /10?

My math skills are subpar btw. :) If we were all good at math then you would no longer be considered good at math, just average. So I do you a favor. (trying to nerf any harsh reply)

Publish 42 - Mana Regen capped at 18.
Publish 46 - Mana Regen is listed as being changed to diminishing returns. Absolutely no formula for how this works is provided.

I got bored a few days ago and built a calculator at http://www.uoguide.com/Mana_Regeneration, but, due to the lack of an equation for the diminishing returns, I stuck with the hard cap. Plus, the math listed on our page is wildly different than the math on Stratics' page.

I think this sounds like a golden opportunity to have a bunch of people post the same question at Ask the Devs to try to get a full answer.

Ok I plugged different #'s in for the item intensity, which is square root of MR on items. I see the diminishes now, its in the square roots I guess. Pretty basic to understand except for me.

So stepping up from 9 to 16 MR (7) has the same added benefit from 16 to 25 MR (9)

HEH... by two minutes!

By the way, the hard cap for mana regen items was removed with this implementation. The diminishing returns takes care of it.
