Relaunch of uo.com, what do we want to see?

So I guess uo.com is going to get a relaunch, hopefully this whole herald thing will vanish and the website will get a proper re-vamp.. I want to see an entire media section myself..

Screenshots/videos (good for advertising)

A wallpapers section

Fan Comics/Official Comics(?) I know we have many and once upon a time there was a special edition of Lord Blackthorns Revenge that came with a toy and a comic book..

A functional guild//character directory

Official forums

Somewhere to submit our own screenshots on the website.

Player establishments/community spotlights; proper ones that will actually cater towards the community.. Like this.

Personally, I just want a working MyUO page. It would be nice (and I shudder saying this) if it was more like WoW, where it would tell you stats and equipment on your character if you chose to expose them.

Being able to compare my character to others holds an odd appeal to me.

I think it is negative publicity and should be avoided.

If UO had unique names that only one person could have.... yes expose the banned cheaters. It sends a message to possible new players that cheating will not be tolerated and also sends a message to the existing players that things are being done to stamp out the cockroaches in the game.

A fully searchable historical db of all past articles, including videos and screen shots.

A revamped MyUO, with :

• character info (player defined visibility of stats and wearables, and bio info);
• guild, faction and player town sites (with maps of the towns based on in game server info) with ability to link your characters;
• a mail system that allows people to email your character from the website (if you allow it) -- the mail would appear in the mailboxes and could be responded to;
• ability to display your home design on the site and share designs (!)
• a group-list rss feed that allows guilds/factions/towns/EMs to post information for people;
• an information page that tells you the last known locations and status of certain character-owned items (pets, boats, houses, friends, etc.)
• a reminder utility, that allows you to set reminders for you to do things in game (remind me when to water plants, when the idoc#3 is coming, when to go talk to the EM, etc.)
• a remote viewer -- takes the "map" of each shard and allows you to look over it as though you were there in game, but not interact. so, you could remote-view a town or see an old Seer quest location, or view someone's house as of the last snapshot.

I'd like MYUO back. The ability to see Character Data. Who they are, what guild they are in, what shard they are on what faction they are in, what their loyalty is, fame/karma, alliance information... etc.

I agree I'd like to see some kind of vendor search... it's long overdue... almost every other game has such a thing.

I'd like to see player run towns.

I'd like to see some sort of feature on establishments that do things for the community... like taverns, auctions and fight clubs...

I think a section for Fan Art would be cool...

Wallpapers would be neat too...

How about banners to add-on for Firefox?

How about a guild page or alliance page for folk looking to join a certain type of guild? Some way to search for guilds to join and how to contact them for folk looking for groups?

I mean if someone comes to the game either new or returning vet..... and they want to say join the RP community of a shard how would they find them? How about someone looking for a guild that does spawns? Or someone looking for a hunting style guild? or a Merchants guild?

Or how about if someone wanted to know how to contact the local auctionhouse on a shard?

Some help in building community would be nice.

Jhym - your ideas are good, but the viewer would have to not work in Fel-ruleset dungeons or T2A, or it would be worse than ghost cams.

This is something that is needed in game, period. Most other major MMOs have ways for players to contact one another in-game, even when one is offline.

The idea of dropping a book into a literal mailbox at somebody's house is...archaic.

And other Mythic MMOs have in-game messaging. And Star Wars has in-game messaging.

We really need a way to communicate in-game.

No doubt and I often wonder if it is because of having a **** poor excuse for a website determines how active UO is.. That should be something to keep in mind.. Our entire roleplaying base on Europa has gone to hell since around the time MyUO went down and I actually blame it on exactly that, because it was a great tool for the RP-Warring guilds and was necessary to help us stay competitive...

Also what hurt us was the fact that we could no longer recruit from New Haven, since a player can start wherever he wants to now.. (A bad move) I know many players wanted to start out where they wanted to, but it hurt guild recruitment greatly since we have such a smaller player base and all it did was spread it thin even more than it already is..
