Recently returned player: Does Cooking have a "use" now?

I saw it got a BoD system, and I know High Seas gave fish pies that gave boosts of varying types, but overall is cooking still merely cosmetic or are there more functional uses?

Mostly role playing purposes now (still?). It is needed to make enchanted apples and grapes of wrath but no idea how well they sell if at all. The fish pies are expensive to make - one ingredient can only be bought at the sea docks and cost 1k per. The BOD rewards from cooking are worth more than anything you will cook. They have 3 of the new dyes, the plum trees, and the fermentation barrel.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that cooking, alchemy, and scribe exceptional were pointless since you can't make exceptional items.

The apron is for cooking only; yes you can make exceptional food and it has a unbelievably high fail rate. You can make exceptional books for scribing and there large BODs that call for just that.

It depends on what's being cooked.

Most high-skill items are possibly exceptional. Many of the mid-range items can be exceptional as well. They don't have any real effect over normal, other than retaining name of the cook, etc.

Most baked goods, pies, pizzas, miso, sushi, etc. items are craftable exceptional.

Some of the older BODs from the first 6 months or so were bugged to not be able to be bribed to be exceptional, which is a bit of an issue. Similarly, There's an issue where Flour is almost impossible to make (low quantities of wheat, and you have to use the crafting menu somehow, not the four mills, to make it exceptional).

To say the system still needs work is an understatement.

Uses of cooking:
Bods
Fish Pies
natural dyes
Wood pulp (for scrollbinders or blank scrolls)
Enchanted apples etc.

and coffee, but that's more RP I guess.
