Rebuilding of Magincia

I've asked this several times and never seen an answer from anyone. Will the rebuilding of Magincia finally give a use for all the blue crystallized essence I've saved for almost 2 years now? Or is it destined for the trash can?

What i dont get is... the players ruined maginca on purpose...they blew it to smitherings ...every building was purposely blown to pieces so the greed of players could collect rubble???

why the hell should it be rebuilt???

leave it like it is to remind people what they did in there hour of greed!!!!!

That would only work if the people who destroyed it cared about it being destroyed.

Hi, sooo...when this town gets rebuilt its gonna be a player run-town?
Does that means this place is gonna be like the "New Luna area"??
I use to like Old Magincia before. I missed that Rubble event of Magincia 2007 or whatever.
So i wasn't around for the "Greed fest." I do, however purchased Rubble that made nice additions to my favorite town. I was very sad it was destroyed.

And it was bad enough the Devs destroyed Old Haven too. I liked that place too. Oh well...

(P.S. Will these Blue Crystalline Essence be used to help build New Magincia? Or will it be built like the next day and we be like Wow~ where did this place come from?)

DEVS - if you're not going to implement the use of the essence in rebuilding Magincia (as was originally stated) at the very least, make it a high-value turn in item for the upcoming spring cleaning!

I don't have a large house, and it has been taking up valuable storage space for too long now!

It would also only work if it had been a system that was based on the choice: save or not save. This choice was absent, and the scenario was 100% designed around blowing up the city, it was never something they meant to be avoidable.

Speaking of which am I the only one who things they should use that system again somewhere? It was fun to destroy the area.

No. even as they say Luna is 'player-run', they can't set prices, as happens in Fel, neither will it happen here. There might be player housing w/ vendors and become Luna2, but they won't run the town. Won't be designed by players either. I doubt the avg player will run/do anything in the new Magincia, it'll stay just another dead city

Are you a prophet or just hoping for a cleanup. Seems like you know something? Did I miss a thread about a clean up?

God I hope time isn't wasted on a Spring Cleaning again. Tell people to just throw their **** away, and spend time on something that will actually improve the game.

I hope they do something diffrent this time if they put alot of player house spots inside the city it will just be another ugly luna

A nice market area next to the bank with tents and allow players to rent vendors in the tents would be cool

the vendors would dropp after 1-2 weeks(no renewal) and all gold, items would go to bank

Are the devs that promised blue essence turn in even working for us anymore? Like you, I have held on to over 200 essences all this time.

In response to a PM yesterday, Cal said they would probably not be using them for the rebuilding of Magincia now, as it would appear to be putting them in just for the sake of putting them in. I suggested that they instead be a high-value turn in for the upcoming spring cleaning, but he said he hoped they would be able to think of something more creative than that.

I just hope it is soon, because I could use the space.

I think I responded too soon earlier, and after thinking a bit.. The correct wording is Player-Driven, not player-run.I think that might mean there could be collections, spring cleaning, quests, who knows, All in relation to rebuilding Magincia. Cal said it would be so that when Magincia was rebuilt, players could say "WE did that". I don't think we'll get to design anything, just provide resource to help the Devs enable the town folks to get the job done. As far as the essence, if they're not gonna include it in the cleaning, they could at least make it stack. I say include it - it's spring Cleaning - time to GET RID OF LEFTOVER STUFF! (maybe Devs should do a little of that as well, eh?).

When Mag is rebuilt, what then? Move the faction base back or leave it? Maybe build a giant boat docking facility, making it a fishing capitol, or would Bucs be a better choice for something like that (sans a few trees)?

I'll be very interested to hear them talk about this in more detail. The conversation has been ongoing for about seven years now if memory serves.

I had originally hoped to see something like a community collection that did not decay, but Cal says they are in the process of building it now, so I am at a loss.

Yeah, good thinking. Stacking would help an awful lot! It would free up a lot of spaces for me. I think I will add that request to the HoC question thread. Seems at the very least they could make them stack for us.

So basically it's like we pay tons for a chance to get a small house with a bunch of neighbors, and oh yeah we have to give up our big houses without tons of neighbors?

If they wanted a proper gold sink, This is how I'd do it:

Have the North/South sides of the city, one being a lottery where people enter for free for a specific plot. The south side being where people donate gold to a NPC for a specific house, after 7 days the person who donated the most gets the plot.

The plot is then added to the winners account along side their current house.

Would really give an incentive to get people giving in their gold and getting it out of the game.

Hail Sosarians,

Some, perhaps many, care little about the rebuilding of Magincia beyond their own self-interest. However, the Rebuilding of Magincia is an Epic Occurrence. The demi-gods who control or at least affect much of our World and destiny, some call these Devs, ought consider Well what they are about to do.

Old Magincia was overtaken by its Pride. New Magincia should Rise as a Testament, if not Shrine, to Humility. Katrina, who survived the destruction of Old Magincia, should re-emerge as Town Leader of New Magincia.

However, this absurd idea/concept of doling out "prime & sub - prime" Housing plots to Players flys in the face of New Magincia's representation of Humility.

This Plan should be reconsidered and scrapped!

You know what would be cool ?

IF somehow some way the gods could go thru everyone's active UO accounts to find whom the true really poor in UO are, whom may be homeless, or only have a dinky lil home, on ALL shards, which their chrs. play upon still, and let THEM have a nice new humble home, in New Magincia !

IE give it to the TRUE POOR, of Ultima ONline to have permission, to place a home there. There may not be many that fit that catagory, but then Magincia or NEW Magincia is not that large anyhow.

I know it would not be any of my chrs. either, but that would be really cool to have the city of Humility rebuilt to give housing permits [only] to the proven [the gods if they can double check if not triple check the gp in every one's banks and check our present home sizes, or lack of homes, to determine whom poorest folks really are, of Ultima Online, per shard and let THEM get the permits to build on New Magincia and only them !

There is probably no way for EA MYTHIC to actually check to see whom are the really TRUE poorer, per shard per every acct. active in their game, but it would be nice to see housing permits for NEW Magincia go to ....... the true poor in Ultima Online.

City of Humility rebuilt, but as more of a housing project to assist the UO poorest, and rebuild it, only for them to have the joy to perhaps be the only ones to get to place a home there.

Meh, it would be alot of work to decide who gets what and people would eventually complain it was 'unfair'. Its just easier for them to lotto out the homes lol.

Well, at least most of the people on Siege will get a home lol. 22 houses, thats about enough. Its just a joke but its kind of a sad reality :/

I expect the entire town will show up with a single patch.

What I would like instead would be a puzzle.
The return of a piece of rubble at the correct position would give the placer an item. I like to know just how many pieces would be returned to thier home before the timelimit was up.

As I recall, the use of the essences in Magincia was mentioned, once, by Draconi, and I think he had a question mark at the end of the sentence.

Meaning he was probably floating a notion, not committing to something. And he's gone in any case.

I've tried to find the quote and can't, though. So I don't know.

As to the current plan itself, I find myself curiously indifferent towards it. It has possibilities but we all know that, if there's, say, 10 plots (I didn't read enough to know how many plots their might be), even if 9 out of 10 owners agree to some central plan and build an awesome looking New Magincia, all it'll take is one person building a McDonald's or Wal-Mart to wreck the look.

My guess is that they wanted to fulfill Draconi's long-ago promise that the players would have a say in what happened in Magincia, and this was the cheapest and most direct way they could think of to do so. ("Let's just let them build houses there.")

My personal preference would have been for them to just abandon Draconi's long-ago promise and build an NPC town with virtue quests and cool virtue-related content.....

OR (even better) to design a small, say two-month or three-month long event arc wherein players would do various types of quests which would build up Magincia in, say, 1 of 3 ways. (As in 3 possible designs, different outcome, potentially, each shard, outcome of quests determines what happens.) None of the quests would be Evil-oriented or anything, just 3 different ideas on how to proceed, and we decide. I'm betting that's closer to what Draconi had in-mind but we'll never know unless he rolls on and tells us.

But that's just me. I'm a little surprised there aren't more people defending the use of player housing in Magincia. Or is it that you object to the distribution scheme, not so much to the idea of player housing there? If so, I, for my part, am holding out until I see what the actual plan is; right now we don't know much and are speculating a tad too much for my comfort.

What I'm actually much more curious about, though, is what NPC buildings they are going to put in.

I heard them mention a cathedral and that has a lot of cool RP possibilities.

The central conflict of Magincia is what happens when your heart is humble, and your mind is full of hubris. Your hands can only follow one of the two, and Magincia long ago chose hubris.

If done properly, if it included Virtue-related content and if the RPers picked up the ball and ran with it, then a full-on cathedral dedicated to the Virtues in general and Humility in particular could capture that paradox beautifully.

If done badly or mediocre-ly, though, it could be just a big building with an ankh and pews.

Aye and if it even could be done, it would take forever to go thru everyone's accts. per shard to see whom was the more deserving of a housing set up for the newer poor. :) And yes others would say...we ALL PAY THE SAME to play yatta yatta !

So tis probably best they do it the way, whatever way, they are gonna be doing it.

I find it quite amusing how people are jumping to conclusions and condeming something without knowing the whole story.

Then again, not sure I should have expected anything different from here.
