Random Poisoning? Bug?

Well, I thought it was just me, but after reading this thread,

UO Herald] Publish 73.0 is Live - Beware of Turkeys

I assume we have a strange new bug in this game.

It happened to me when I recalled to orc dungeon to do my daily compassion escort. I arrive, there is the NPC, couple of orcs and all of a sudden we all get hit by some sort of poison blast. The orcs AND the blue NPC are insta killed, I took about 50 damage and so did my pet. I cant remeber if I was actually poisoned (because I am so used to hit GC button after seing a green blob on my char) but the blob was definitely there.

I could not reproduce this. And other people tell about the poison damage in completely different situations (opening moving crates and many more).

Second "bug" I have previously reported in another thread is that *some* dyed runebooks (I have dyed them with the default colour of the runebook tub) have changed color back to the usual brown.
Now I know that this is not game breaking but there are other items in the game that have unique colors and some people would probably be rather upset if the items would lose the colors...

Any more things you may have noticed?

I logged into my house (18x18) and was immediately poisoned with nothing around me on my tamer. I recalled to town and cured myself. Have no explanation for this - there was no spawn or anything near me and I 'woke up' poisoned.

When I last logged out I was full health. I would never log poisoned.

I have now had it happen 3 times. Twice on Atlantic, and once on TC1. When I logged into TC1 I had logged out in the wild, and the poison blast killed all of the animals around me. The other chars on ATL were logged out in New Mag.

Well, I can safely say: since I have not been to shame yet with any of my chars it is probably not some kind of intended "blackrock-poison infection"

Did this only happen with your tamer characters? Maybe the pets are doing something odd.

It happened on my one tamer, Faeryl, but my other tamer, Lysean, who I was on just beforehand had nothing happen to her. Neither of them had pets out of the stables while I was on them.

Faeryl had been logged out at home in perfect health, and the only spawn near my house is Skittering Hoppers, who are on the other side of the mountain.

She had been copied to TC, but I haven't been on there since I checked out the dyes they put in the cleanup. She hadn't been anywhere near Shame for months until a few hours after the poison...

I got hit while taming a giant beetle. I had just started taming it, then for no apparent reason I was poisoned and the beetle was dead. Very weird. Char had not been to Shame.
She did cast the armageddon spell to summon the blue wisp when that was all active.

maybe those with taming skill would be affected by this? oh well, thats funny, i got hit with a deadly poison (i dont remember), i used arch cure to cure afterwards..

All chars affected seem to be tamers - but not all tamers are affected.
My char summoned the blue wisp with the armagedon spell - is this the long awaited, and threatened, consequence?

I just logged into my tamer, and after about one minute of time I took a hit for 24 damage, but was not poisoned.

I have not cast the Armageddon spell, with any of my characters, so that can't be it. I was wearing one of the new Virtuoso suits and sitting on a cu sidhe in my house. I did visit shame two days BEFORE the latest patch, but i doubt that has any bearing.

Both my tamers on SP (1 human 1 elf) have not been affected. Both did never summon any whisps or used the armageddon spell. Both have not been to shame. I hunted in various areas on all facets (no tram) since the patch. Tamers have no talisman whatsoever.



I checked my 3 old tamers on europa. 2 human 1 elf, non affected either. Havn't played them in aones, not used any blackrock either. 1 Tamer was logged in fel, one in doom and one in trammel. No talisman on either char.

Just went on my tamer-fisher with llama packy to refresh my boat. The instant split second I recalled home from the ship, my packy was one hit killed and I was poisoned and had only half my hit points remaining. Also strange the rezzed packy's load now has changed from 13 stones to 10 stones. Double-clicking open its pack has changed the llama back to 13 stones. Tried to reproduce this, and nothing happened on a rerun.

Just logged in with my tamer and suddenly got struck by some sort of poison strike after standing in my house just doing nothing for about three minutes. I was able to cure it with a simple "An Nox". No clue what this is all about...

Can we find a common denominator?

- char is a male human on a 13+ year vet account
- last activity / login three days ago (pre patch)
- overhead text: "You feel extremely weak and are in severe pain!"
- has never been copied / transferred to any other shard
- skills: 6 x legendary (tame/lore/vet/disco/music/magery)
- sitting on an ethereal llama without any other followers (1/5), nothing else around except a parrot on a perch... *g*
- wearing no new equipment; not even imbued stuff.
- has casted armageddon spell @ Shadow Lords manifestations; but no other contact with black rock
- has been involved killing turkeys two years ago
- has killed many Vanguards (they also had this kind of poison strike)
- has not been to shame lately (pre & post patch)

hmm, what else could be worth mentioning?

Ready for another wild theory?

Thinking about the possibility that perhaps the damage is coming from invisible, floating pockets of turkey gas, I thought maybe tamers with Animal Lore skill are more sensitive to it.

Then it occured to me that maybe if this really is "turkey gas," it is particularly attracted to bird slayer talismans.

So, checking on my one tamer so far that had some strange damage, I found that yes indeed she is wearing a Birds of Britannia talisman and her Animal Lore skill is 110.

Anyone else want to check this out with their characters that have had random, unexplained damage? Do they have any kind of bird slayer gear equipped and what is their animal lore skill? And have they had the strange damage happen to them more than once? And if they got hit with lethal poisoning skill, have they been near the giant turkeys this year or at any time in the past?

(My one tamer that has experienced weird damage, not lethal poisoning, just loss of 20 some hit points shortly after log in, is one I rarely play and I know for sure she's not been by the giant turkeys this year or last year and I kind of doubt she went near them in 2009. She's wearing the talisman and has 110 animal lore skill. I'll be checking my other tamer characters this morning.)

So… that’s what it was!!!?

I thought I was loosing my mind for just a moment. But yeah. I logged in my tamer and moved a couple extra items out of her backpack, when I touched the first old gift box (what it was) she was hit with deadly poison and I nearly couldn’t get cured. Saved her just in time!

It's just funny. It's only 2 so far, but this is the most bug-filled publish I have ever noticed in over 10 years. I guess “testing” didn’t see this or the runebook default color revert.

I'd still be interested in knowing for the affected characters what their animal lore skill is and whether they just had non-poison damage or if they got hit by poison.

Had same happend to my tamer on europe, havent logged it in for weeks. And I got insta blasted (didnt see it happend) just got msg i was in extreemly pain and over half dead.

Was in my 18*18 outside cove trammel.

I set up a Google spreadsheet to try to collect some information!

I've never done one of these spreadsheets and given other people the ability to add information, so give it a try if you want and add your information for your character(s) that have had unexplained damage out of the blue since the latest publish hit the shard where you play. Make sure you scroll all the way over to the right to be able to fill in all the columns.

I can add more columns if anyone thinks of something else to ask about to see what all these incidents have in common.

Been on a tamer and mage - nothing strange. Mage was copied to TC1 for Shame testing a few weeks back. Mage has been near turkeys. Tamer has neither been on TC or in shame and not near any turkeys

My tram Keep is right in the middle of a Turkey spawn heaven, I have counted at least 6 of them all at the same time.

Oh, I have been hit with the rune book bug. All my Signal(Purple) books now look like spell books.

Thanks for mentioning this about the rune book. I thought I lost an important rune book, but the color was merely changed. Someone reported that the rats spawn in the Stygian Abyss were paragons. I wonder if this is a bug or intended.

The Servants at the Renowned Wyvern spawn were marked paragon this morning... and ouch!

Happened to me last night on my tamer... recalled from my house to Skara Brae and started getting poisoned messages all of the sudden. I had no pets out and have not been on the character since the last patch. Left me scratching my head for a while... glad it's not just me going crazy!

I just logged onto my human male tamer on Europa, at home on Arctic Isle Tram and was poisoned.

I haven't copied any char to TC, I haven't been to Shame with this char yet, he has a Totem of the Void talisman and I haven't killed any turkeys yet.

I don't know many off-sharders that might have a developed tamer there, but I've been on my tamer and nothing has happened to her.

I logged onto my Original Maharia on Napa and nothing. Logged into my bard/tamer on LS....nothing.

I've been to Shame on my Origin tamer only, she was copied to TC twice. My Tamer on Napa was copied to TC once and none of them, nor any other character has been affected by this strange phenomena.

Ok here is a weird thing that just happened. I commanded a pack horse to follow me but it attacked and then I lost all access to my house even though she is the owner. She couldn't even use the teleporters which are set to anyone. The house sign showed she had no access.

The packie was grey. After a couple of "all stops", I was able to successfully command the packie to follow me and access was back....as if nothing ever happened!

This was a non-tamer though. Seems like some spooky post Halloween shenanigans!!! Or maybe this is normal, if you fight a pet inside a house??

After seeing a Turkey get hit badly with Deady Poison after I first logged in the other day, and after much more research and reoccurances with other characters, .. *partial copy of my report below*


The epidemic of DPD (deadly poison disease) is inherit in new born(new spawn) Giant Turkeys, and that, as new Turkeys log-in(spawn) the wind causes DPD to be carried and spread through-out the land, thus infecting all new borns(log-ins), including new born(new spawn) animals, monsters and even Giant Turkeys themselves !

So that creates a question in my mind ..
Has anyone had reoccurances of DPD with the same characters, and/or in any other form,
or seen animals stricken with the disease?

Seems there are many reports in this thread taking place about other glitches and bugs related to the same ...

Also I logged in a few of my other tamers, plus a bard, blacksmith, tinker, scribe .. so far, and found the DVD and/or damage it is NOT restricted to Tamers.

I believe everyone builds up an immunity after the first Hit with DPD. So maybe there is some common denominator in connection to and related to this question:

Is anyone experiencing reoccurances of these bugs and glitches?

"The poison blast killed all of the animals around me" .. Well that answers my question about animals .. but did you log out after getting poisoned and cured, and then log back in the next day with the same character?
Were any of your experiences a reoccurance with the same character .. or was it always with different characters.

In addition, I have been noticing that because my houses are mostly open to the public I have a habit of logging off Hidden and those characters, so far, do not get blasted with damage when logging in or moving around after logging in.

So it might that: a character who is hidden won't take a blast after log-in.

My tamer didn't get a blast visiting the Turkeys when she lored them and I can only put that down to her hiding when approaching monsters because she suffered no damage in that blast.

Therefore:
who or what targets players doesn't have Detect Hidden Skills!!
- - and Hiding avoids damage while immunity kicks in .. ???
- - hard to pin down a common denominator .. wow

It doesn't just happen on log in. I got hit in the solen hive while taming a giant beetle. Before I went there I'd checked my pet stall inventory, tamed a forest ostard, stabled it and then set out to get the beetle.
Since I'd just knocked the beetle down to 'subjugated' it was on very low health and died.

I encourage others keep posting their experiences and reporting damage that occurs. Who knows what small bit of information might trigger the connective denomination to the problem.

Interesting. I've been working on what happens to Log-in characters .. so only noticed the lack of damage to any hidden characters at log-in.

Usually new patches take some time before the dust settles.

I stopped and looked at the turkeys on several shards shortly after the publish went live on the Asian shards. I was using low-skilled tamer characters that did not have hiding skills, many of them would have had trouble even invizzing themselves if they'd needed to. None of them had any problems standing by the turkeys or following them around for a few minutes until the turkeys walked out from behind trees for better screen shots. Didn't take any damage at all on those characters.

I'm curious whether anyone's had anything happen since the most recent server maintenance on their shard? Or did all of this incidents happen yesterday only and now everything might be fixed?

My ISP is currently giving me rotten connection even here in Europe, so if you see an oddly dressed tamer lagging her arse off, that'll prolly be me lol

EDIT: Ran (okay, lagged) around a bit, killed some critters with a cu, changed servers & facets (Tram/Fel/Malas/Ilsh), tamed some harts & polars, etc, with no unusual poisoning effects on Origin - never blackrocked, never cast armageddon, never x-sharded.

had my G Dragon with me. i was hit for about 45 pts. thought my GD was attakcing me at first...but that wasnt it.

Next question for all characters that have taken random damage since the publish:

Does your character own either a dread warhorse or a bane dragon? If you do have one, was it "guarding" your character, even if it was in the stable?

Mine that took 20 hit points of nonpoison damage on Napa owns a dread warhorse but until just a few minutes ago when I went to check what I had in the stable there, it hasn't been out of the stable in a long, long time, definitely over a year if not closer to two years. It was still in "guarding" mode when I pulled it out of the stable.

Yes, I have a Dread Warhorse, but it wasn't guarding my character.

Well...

Trilla was hit with something... not sure what. But it hit me at Skara Brae stables... I was with my Cu. Now I had recently looked at my dreadwarhorse, and 2 banes... however I am not sure about "guarding".

But happily my Cu was quick and started healing me. I was NOT however poisoned. Just injured. Both me and my Cu.

And that is so far the only one of my Tamers that has been effected.

If you have a dread warhorse or bane dragon and the tamer that owns it/them was randomly damaged in the last couple of days, how well trained is/are these particular pets?

My tamer only took about 20 hit points of damage and her dread warhorse has had no training to speak of. Magery is still at 35.1 and evaluate intelligence is at 57.4.
