Quick stealth tamer question

For those of you who use stealth to scope out prospective big pets like greater dragons, do you find that you are revealed very often while stealthing?

I'm not ready yet to tame a greater dragon, but last night I stealthed around a couple of their spawning grounds and was sweating bullets that I would be revealed and cooked before I could run away. I never was found out, but wonder if it happens a lot or only occasionally. This is on a stealth tamer with 100 hiding and 100 stealth.

Thanks!

ok first if you are wearing mediable armor, you only need 100 hiding and 75 stealth.

if you 'pop' in front of an aggro creature typically you have 2-4 seconds before the creature actually attacks.

this is usually plenty of time to quickly cast invisibility.

or if you add 50 ninjitsu to your template, you can smoke bomb and instantly hide. instant "oh sh*t" button! if you take it a little higher still you get access to animal forms and speeeeeed! you can have speed with your greater dragon!

you might be able to use invis pots also, im not sure how fast they work when you drink them- testing would be needed.

Thanks JD - great info!

When you're stealthing it pays to be aware of how long it'll be before you can hide again. Then, if you are about to get into a risky situation like a group of monsters/players, you know you'll be able to hide straight away. I tend to stealth with my hand over the stealth macro, then hit it if something goes wrong.

Occasionally I need to cast invis, but mostly I just pace myself around the skill timer. My ninja uses smoke bombs on occasion but she also does the timer thing when she can. It's safest for you if you can hide immediately rather than stop to cast/drink.

But at 100/100 in medable armour, you shouldn't be revealed very often.

Don't walk through the creatures and have you finger over the hide key. I have not had a "stealth" key for a long time. You have plenty of time to hide before the creature targets you after you have been revealed.

Do you mean the "hide" macro or the "stealth" macro?

Just in case, you no longer have to manually activate the "stealth" skill anymore. As soon as you hide, you can start walking immediately and you will start stealthing automatically, no extra 12 sec skill delay.

Also there are plenty of ways you can boost stealth, it should not actually take you 75 trained points to have what you need.

There are +20 legs, +10 robe, +20 cloak, you can use jewels... and much more

Good tip about not walking directly through mobs. If you walk through them or they walk through you, you can be revealed. It seems to happen less when I am in Ki-Rin form with tons of endurance regen so it may be linked somehow to endurance.

Thanks everyone for the great info, tips, and reassurances. I tested steathling some more last night and feel pretty confident now that I can sneak around the big guys fairly safely. I have to say, though, as someone who hasn't done a whole lot in the dungeons yet, it's still pretty scary! I'm sure I will get used to it over time...lol

Nah demons and dragons aren't too scary. Wait til you are stealthing around 6professional murderers in Fel, then you can be scared.

I mean the hide key, not the stealth one, that's one thing I don't miss from the old days :D I know you can stealth straight away, I just time my stealth moves on the most hazardous tiles so I know I can hide again if I do get revealed :)

Just wanted to pass on an interesting thing I noticed in the Twisted Weald while scouting/taming cu's. Swoop has an amazingly high percentage chance to reveal a stealther if you walk close to it. I'd say it's 75% of the time or more.

Now that would DEFINITELY be scary for me!
You get used to it, though what gets the ol'ticker thumpin is when your snooping around in their packs at a champ spawn and see a bright shiny 120 scroll sitting there, just begging for you to go *yoink*.....
