Question on resists.

So not sure where to place this since there is no adventurer forum. I know that if you wear a shield or a weapon that has resists on it that it ups your numbers. But does it really count? I noticed the other day while traiing posioning that my gear was getting worn, except for my shield though. So does a shield with resists and other adders really apply anything? Or does it only get worn if used for parry?

Does it have self repair on it?

If not, it may only wear down when you actively parry.
The resists should count.

Doubleclick your health bar and equip/unequip the shield. Does the numbers in the resists column change?

I think hes saying the resist mods on the shield which indeed raise your resists on your stat sheet just like a regular piece of armor. And everytime when you get struck the damage is lessened and then there's a chance it will decrease durability on your armor.

I think hes saying since shield never lose durability unless you successfully block an attack with it, and the number showed on your stat sheet actually do not protect you. e.g. you have 50 fire resist without shield and 65 with a shield on. You will take the same fire ball damage since the shield never blocks a fire ball and never lose durability.

From my experience, the resist on the shield actually do help you but still do NOT lose durability unless you blow an attack with it. It's all about coding.

This is an item based game now.. all numbers matter and have a direct effect.

this reminds me of people getting confused about magic resist vs the poison spell (being poisoned) and poison resist versus poison damage.

Anything that adds x% to x resist, that's what it does, doesnt matter if it is a spell channeling broad sword with fire resist or a shield or if you are casting spells from afar or have no parry or weapon skill with that weapon. Simple on that question.

Arch Magus is right.

Shields are only damaged if you have parrying skill.

The first three years I played, I didn't have parry, and my shield never needed repair, with no self repair.

Shortly before the release of ML, I bought a ring, and got a bracelet from an SOS, that together added 58 skill points to my character, allowing me to finally add Parry by lowering other skills. Immediately on doing so, my shield started taking damage.

It's possible that JOAT might make humans with no real parry skill have 20 parry (and therefore lose resistance from rare parries), but it is also possible that may have been deactivated when they fixed the potential for conflict between Bushido and Parry skill from JOAT alone.
