Question for Siege Miners

Do ore and lumber types on Siege change over time, as they do on other shards? Lady Storm is asserting in U Hall that some spots such as a valorite location and a bronze location near two of her houses on Siege don't change and that Siege is different from other shards in this regard.

My experience so far on Siege in the couple of months I've been playing there has been that the ore types change regularly on Siege if you keep mining the same locations repeatedly (just like on other shards); however, I almost always only mine in Malas. I do lumberjack in Fel though and it sure seems to me as if the lumber types change there regularly. If I find a frostwood spot, it doesn't last long. If I find a heartwood spot, it also doesn't last long either. And I'm pretty darn sure that the bloodwood spot I found this evening (my first one ever on Siege) is gonna dry up and change to something else after I hit it a few more times later today.

Is there something special about mining and lumberjacking in certain areas or facets on Siege? Are there some super-secret locations that somehow escaped the randomization change from four years ago?

Siege is exactly the same as all other shards for resource spawning. If a spot hasn't changed it's either a) not being worked or more likely b) having a good run with the RNG.

Summed up nicely Petra.

On LS, I had a tree (just off my house steps) that spawned Yew for months after the randomnization was implemented. It eventually changed.

Everything changes for me... I looked for "weeks" for a bloodwood cow to milk and it dryed up on my 2nd visit back. Mining tho it seems is a lot slower and I've been to valorite as well as dull copper (over and over same spot) and it seems to me they dont change nearly as often as wood. Using the + (whatever) axe never gave me ANY upgrade in wood so I quit bothering with them too. The power of being able to upgrade TWICE with mining also made high lvl ingots easy to get if I wanted any.:rant2:

I can farm 300k a hour if I have support, making it far easier to allow the ants to do my bidding with the power of gold.

I do fishing, and like mining and lumberjacking the locations for fishing generate a limited resource until it runs out. The rng selects what is placed there, which is a range of possible fishes, skulls, boots, and monsters. With my skill fishing at 100.0 I will be testing a selected area on the seas and will report to this forum and the other forum the results. This will take a two weeks time, so please be patient.

Perhaps, other players may do a simular test for mining and lumberjacking?!

There isn't really anything to test with fishing. I'm struggling to see what could be researched.

I had always assumed that fishing was simply a roll of the dice at casting and not pre designated spawns like mining and lumberjacking.

I noticed this post a couple weeks ago and just thought I'd throw this out now. Most places where I mine seem to change.

There is a little ore pile in downtown Moonglow, adjacent to both the Farmers Market and the Alchy Store that has been yielding bronze for at least two weeks for me. I mine this thing countless times per week as my miner is also a .1 tailor who picks up tailor bods for me nearby numerous times per day.

Somebody dig that spot for a bit and see if it changes or still yields bronze like it did a few minutes ago.

It's entirely RNG, what it is is once it's been mined it has a CHANCE of changing to something random, so it doesn't always change every time, but the more often it's mined the quicker it will change simply due to having more chances.

I recently came across some old Five on Friday Q&A that discussed the mining and lumberjacking change back in 2007. Here they are for your reading pleasure:

Also, the original publish notes from when they added the randomization change and also eliminated the ability to mine or lumberjack while hidden: UO Herald archive! - Ultima Online Stratics ▶ TGN.TV - Get more views!.

I did *alot* of mining on siege, and in my experience the ore spots weren't so random. It seemed like each spot rotated between 3-4 different ore colors. For example, a spot might first give iron for a random number of hits, then would change to bronze for a random number of hits, then change over to shadow, then change to verite, then it would change back to iron, change to bronze, change to shadow, change to verite.... this pattern of ore would just keep repeating itself. I knew of a couple of spots that I could always get valorite, I just had to work it long enough to get through the pattern.

So... the amount of ore I got for each color was random. The colors were not random.
