Which makes the better tank at level 5?

Lesser 1 ->5
Hiryu 3 -> 5

Don't have alot of experience with them, so trying to sort out which one to start out with?

The hope is a high HP/Str pet with good resist and 120 Wrestle/Parry/Bushido

I just finished my lesser hiryu and found it had more than enough points for everything.

921 hp
150 stam
200 mana
700 str
150 dex
302 int

20 hpr
10 sr
30 mr

80/80/45/80/80

whirlwind attack
bushido
grasping claw
dismount

120 resist
120 med
120 focus
120 bushido
120 anat
120 tactics
120 parry
120 wrestle

Kinda looking that way from what I can tell as well. I tamed one of each and compared the points needed to get the Str and Hp the same. Was about 300 hit points and 500 strength, which is 2400 training points. That would leave an extra 600 points to spend on the lesser for roughly the same stats. The reg hiryu does have the over capped fire resist, but I'm not sure that is really a significant factor.

it depends on what you end up doing with it. I found i had too many points hence the 921 hp, i was only shooting for 800 as my other tank pets feel like overkill at the 1000 hp mark.

As it was i could only spend points on hp, mana, int and more SR which wasnt needed. If you arent planning on going as overboard as me on the power scrolls, the 3 slot normal hiryu might be a better choice to get the overcapped fire resist, as you may not actually be sacrificing anything to get it. It will also save you some grief levelling from 1 slot with the 1-2 increment being the slowest to gain ( at least from my experimenting )

That seems to be the case with other similar pets, I think. My Greater Dragons are mostly stabled right now, but I have a regular 4-slot dragon in there, and I'm wondering with training if he'd end up a better hunting partner than his older brother.

Does it really matter about the starting stats, resists and skills of a lesser if you plan to train to 5 slot?
How about with a normal hiryu if planning on going from 3->5?

They are relevant in terms of comparing as starting 3 slot to a starting 1 slot... can the 1 slot meet or exceed the 3 slot through 2 levels of training? In this case, I think the answer is yes, a 1 slot lesser hiryu can be more powerful when it gets to level 3 than the starting level 3 hiryu.

Also, as noted repeatedly above, some of the high-end trainables have more than 80 in one resist, and perhaps more than 45 in the resist that is the low-ball resist.

I seem to remember that when I trained my Hiryu, I was only able to increase 3 of the 5 resists, as the other 2 were already capped or overcapped.
