Question about template mentioned in stickies

I saw the Tactics Mage template which is

120 Mage
120 Eval Int
120 Med
120 Resist Magic
120 Swords
120 Tactics

I thought it looked like an interesting template. Since I know the stickied post above is kind of old, is this still a viable template in PvP and PvM? Also would this template require a spell chanelling weapon, or could you use macros to re-equip after using a spell. Thanks any help you can give.

That template would still be playable although probably more suited to a PVP char than a PVM char.
Definately have a spell channeling weapon equipped it would drive you mad disarm/rearming all the time. Plus that time when your casting without a weapon would mean your losing your melee defense.

They are "playable" but they have some disadvantages these days.

1) Your usually chosing between int and dex in your template. You'll be slow swinging or have a lower mana pool. Most of the nice dex increase arties aren't medable.

2) Dexxers will disarm you easily and often, leaving you defenseless and easy to hit and therefore kill.

3) Your weapon damage output will be low because you don't have anat., chiv, Bushido, or ninja buffs and specials.

4) With the recent changes you can no longer stack weapon specials and spell casting. If you try a special you have to wait for it to go off or you'll cancel it when you cast a spell.

The advantage to this template would be using weapon specials like, bleed, infectious strike, armor ignore, etc...

IMHO the short comings outweigh the benefits.
