I have seen around on vendors Fishing Pole with +5 skills on them.

Where do they come from ? Quests ? Craftable ?

Can a fishing pole be imbued with skill points on it ? Is there a max possible of points that can be loaded on a Fishing Pole ?

Thanks.

You can craft fishing poles with a runic hammer*(hehe sorry SAW Runic SAW!). And they will have added bonus's.

Not sure about imbuing. But I do know they are craftable.

*(edited because I hadn't had my dew yet... sorry.)

runic hammer or runic saw ?

they always come with a skill on (random) or do I need some specific material to target for skill bonus ?

Also, say that I get one with a skill that I do not like, can I change the skill into the one I want using imbuing ?

Thanks.

I use a +14 stealth fishing pole on my stealther when i need that extra boost, and a +[something] disco/provo pole on my bard archer. Just use runic saws to make, same way you would make any item from wood like a bokuto! Better runic more stats and higher intensity and depending on what wood you use depends on what extra you get from the wood bonus. Pretty sure they cant be imbued but go on the test server and try it.

Any runic saw is just fine or gotta be some specific runic saw ?

Also, how do I get the skill that I want, try over and over till I get it ?

Does the type of wood matter in getting a skill bonus ?

1) You need heartwood runic saws to get 100% intensity properties ie +15 in a skill.

Unlike runic sewing kits and hammers, the devs didn't change the lower end carpentry and fletching runics to have a chance to give 100% intensity properties.

2) Yes, you have to try your luck and burn heartwood saws until the RNG gods smile at you. Remember, you may never get +skill properties. The properties it generate could be SDI/DCI/Luck/LRC etc etc.

So it's probably more useful to use heartwood runic saws to make bokutos and other wooden weapons/armour.

3) Wood type you use doesn't matter on what runic properties you get. But the fishing pole will get bonus properties depending on the wood you use, eg oak gives +40 luck, frostwood gives spell channeling etc.

4) Bonus answer, fishing poles cannot be imbued.

5) Bonus answer 2, although the fishing pole can get a +skill property, I don't think fishing is a skill that's available, kinda sucks. Bonus to the fishing skill would kinda make sense on a fishing pole, no?

Well, after burnng 70 runic charges all for nothing I can say the chances are very slim to get the right skill one wants.....
I did get poles with even 2 skills on them but none with the skill I need.....

This really sucks. At least, if they were imbuable, I could just put on the skill I wanted and be done with it.......

They dont cost much and are even really easy to get, go to heartwood and do the quest for them i get 4-5 runics per beetle [1600 boards] its easy.

I also sell the ones i dont want for 500k per so easily make the money back for the cost of boards or runics.

Im surprised people havent clicked for sooo long as to how usefull a fishing pole with e.g. 14 provo 14 peace is ;)

Honestly my fisherman has a fishing pole that is spell channeling no penalty with some Spell damage increase on it I think.

And he loves his Fishing Pole.

As we know now, skills as magical properties are grouped. Combining with former experiments with runic saws for fishing poles, I woul assume that not every skill group is available to fishing poles. I havent gotten magery, animal taming and musicianship. But that is a few years ago ... so it could have been changed. (Back then I was looking for a fishing pole with musicianship for my human crafter.)

High high was your sample test ?

I mean, how many poles overall you crafted (using which runic saw and which wood ?) that produced no magery, animal taming and musicianship + skills ?

I have mentioned before and will mention again that i would love to be able to imbue one of these with the skills on it.

Right now i believe it's the only item left in the game that can't be imbued but can be made with runics.

Around 200 with a heartwood runic. Probably used plain wood and it was on a TC. I have further my old record of 35 fishing poles crafted with an ash runic saw out of frostwood.
There were even some more skills that didnt show up during my experiences that were of no or little interest to me at that time. (All weaponskills for example.) It was around december 2007 when I did my testings.

I wonder about:

@Thunderz: Do you actually have a fishing pole with provo and peace on it? I only ask, becourse I havent gotten one of those, too. And when I look at the known skill groupings, I would assume, that only skills from group 2 and 3 are valid for fishing poles. (Probably becourse some of the skills of the other groups are only usefull when wielding a weapon.)

Loot Skill Group 1 (group 5 in Imbuing gump): Archery, Peacemaking, Healing, Resist Spells, Ninjitsu, Chivalry, Throwing
Loot Skill Group 2 (group 4 in Imbuing gump): Bushido, Veterinary, Anatomy, Eval Int, Necromancy, Stealing, Mysticism
Loot Skill Group 3: Disco, Parry, Stealth, Med, Focus, Animal Lore
Loot Skill Group 4 (group 2 in Imbuing gump): Provo, Taming, Tactics, Spirit Speak, Wrestling
Loot Skill Group 5 (group 1 in Imbuing gump): Magery, Musicianship, Swords, Fencing, Macing

Btw: my personal opinion of this is: Leave the fishing poles to the fishers. Its not necessary to further use them for a skill boost for too lazy people or too cramped templates. For fishers those runic crafted poles are fine as they are. (Mainly becourse you get sc,-1 from using frostwood
and can add fc+1 to counter the sc-penalty from using any runic saw if your lucky.)

Well, when I wasted the 70 charges , I got the following poles with +skills (20 out of 70 attempts)

- Focus +7 (Group 3) and Evaluate Intelligence +6 (Group 2)
- Mediation +11 (Group 3) and Mysticism +11 (Group 2)
- Meditation +8 (Group 3) and Anatomy +10 (Group 2)
- Anatomy +6 (Group 2)
- Anatomy +8 (Group 2)
- Anatomy +8 (Group 2)
- Animal Lore +7 (Group 3)
- Bushido +6 (Group 2)
- Discordance +7 (Group 3)
- Discordance +9 (Group 3)
- Discordance +10 (Group 3)
- Evaluate Intelligence +9 (Group 2)
- Evaluate Intelligence +10 (Group 2)
- Focus +9 (Group 3)
- Focus +11 (Group 3)
- Meditation +9 (Group 3)
- Stealing +10 (Group 2)
- Stealth +8 (Group 3)
- Veterinary +9 (Group 2)
- Veterinary +10 (Group 2)

My findings seem to be in line with yours..... Fishing Poles come out only with +skills in the Groups 2 and 3.

It seems that trying to get any other skill out of those 2 Groups would be a waste of runic charges. It beats me though as to why fishing poles +skills were limited to only those 2 Groups as well as to why they cannot be imbued....

I wished I knew of this undocumented limitation feature before I actually wasted runic charges to get a skill which was not possible for me to get....
