I think it would be good for the devs to create multiple "paths" for completing story arcs, bnased upon the general "type" of character on the quest.
For example, one path for the "warrior" class, another for the "taming" class, perhaps another for the "magic" classes, and even paths for the "trades" classes.
The paths could start in one location, and based upon the characters skills, the paths would at first go their seperate ways, until athey all met back up and the end of the quest. Choieces given coul dbe based upon the skills present on teh template at quest start, and foils could be added in to keep players "honest" (skill checks along the way to get into certain areas, "bosses" with immunity to certain attacks, etc.)
This would allow for a variety of different playstyles to participate throughout the quest arc. "Warriors" go out and slay something, blacksmiths, alchemists, tinkerers, etc go out and create or discover something else, etc.
One area to overcome might be multi-templates that have no everwhelming direction (blacksmith with magery - taming - swords - peace) but to a certain extent I believe this is feasible.
