[Mysticism] PVP and spawning Mysticist/mage

What's a good template for a PVP and spawning mysticist?

I'm thinking something along the below

120 magery (114 trained, +26 in jewels, -20 mage weap 1-handed DCI Channeling gheal wand)
116 Eval Int
120 Myst
120 Focus
120 Resist
110 Weaving

Human for JOAT. I can swap items on and go into necro wraith form for PVM, all you need is 20 necro to maintain.

PVM this gives me:

  • Magery and Mysticism AOE and nuke spells to clear spawn
  • Rising Colossus to tank champ boss and clear spawn
  • Spellweaving: Gift of Life, Word of Death
  • Wraith mana leeches

PVP this gives me:

  • Effective PVP magery+ei while holding a gheal wand
  • Mysticism PVP spells (Sleep, Cleansing Winds, Healing stone, spell trigger)
  • Spellweaving for pixies, Gift of Life, Pixies to interrupt
  • 120 Resist spells

But i've noticed many of the PVP combos use omen or poison spike.....

How would I fare in PVP with no necro?

Would you change this spec? I don't anticipate being able to do everything, but being able to do a lot would rock.

i know some people do it, but in my opinion, unless you are in a group no med can really be a bind, even if you have focus. I run 80 sw in pvp just to not fail on pixies, and it works fairly well, could apply that to a little med.

I really have not played with the Mystic class much, so I will try to apply normal ideas to what you have posted.

First to comment on what Cetric said, It really is a major issue with out having med, but you can easily make up for med with tons of mr, not saying that is the way to go....but it is not killer. I had a char with nearly no med and did decently well. Also you will need 90 Spellweaving I believe to not fail at essence of wind, and would also need 4/6 casting for it to be viable in pvm. I really suggest 4/6 if you plan to use weaving in a sufficient amount.

More basic knowledge is there are pleanty of spellcasters that run with out necro, it is not a needed spell group to pvp with people run pure mage templates, and some have been dabbling with the mystic templates, I do not know any that are great with it currently but again I have not really played with the mystic class, due to not playing much in general.

A template is really only as good as you are able to play it, I would say it looks like the template could work, with the right play-style.

i actually equip about 51 necro worth of items on my human stealth archer and will go wraith form when on a barracoon. i get insane mana back with only JOAT. i have crap gear (15 LMC, 42 mana) and yet can AI every other hit using JOAT ss, wraith, vermin tally, and a nice mana leech composite.

it might scale upwards with more ss, but it works great as is - some mana back is better than no mana back, right? i anticipate it will be this way with spells. i will carry necro items (two +13 jewels, midnight bracer, bloodwood talisman) to lower fizzles and just cast wraith then remove items...

question about weaving however... you mentioned i would need 4/6, does not the presence of high magery lower effective casting to 2/6?

lastly it's good to know necro isn't "required", but are there any good magery or mysticism combos?

i'm wondering if a curse, explode, (mind blast/ebolt/flamestrike), followed by the insta cast spell trigger on a nice nuke wouldn't be nasty..

the problem being the spell trigger wouldn't always be available to me in pvp. it would kinda be a one-shot thing.

The Casting cap of 2/6 with Magery over 70 only applies to Chiv, Because 4/6 Chiv casting with close wounds is quite ridiculous and a lot of mages were using low chiv just for that spell, it is the same speed as the low level mage heal spell, but the same (or more) healing as greater healing.

I can not really say much about Mystic combos, as I have said not much experience with it. But as a mage (assuming you are not solo) you can run some nice combos such as the Explode/mind blast/fs or Explode/MB/Lightning for faster end casting, Plus a good spell trigger (like maybe Ebolt or FS (ebolt is instant damage, FS has a slight delay)) But in a solo run, I would not see you dropping anyone with large combo's as the mage spells (and Mystic spells) are high level spells with long casting times, vs a mage it is unlikely to get through a high level spell, and vs a dexxer assuming your defense keeps up you might be able to get through 1 of those spells with out being hit, being hit at any time during the combo would of course ruin the combo. :p

Healing stone, and gift of renewal/Attune Weapon are decent ways of staying alive as well.

Hopefully this was a bit helpful, and I will continue to try and answer questions as best as I can, or reply to scenarios as best I can.
