PVM Necromage (new to magery)

Good day to everyone

I post here to hopefully get some insight on some concerns I have.Im used to
play warrior-style characters(usually played the typical chiv-sampire) untill
I decided to try Magery seriously. Are Necromages useful in teams? From what i see, most if not all of necro pets are absolutely useless imo, mainly because they do take pet slots that EV could be taking, they are often bugged and are very weak.Animating corpses is fun but unless you reanimate a really nasty critter(like a reptalon) they are also quite weak, and the fact you get no credit for their kills makes me cry.Mounts decay and cannot be bonded.

My idea with this character is pure PvM solo and in teams,Doom too.My template is something like this(not finished by far):

100 magery
100 eval
110 med
100 SS
100 necro
100 focus
(Defensive stuff here? removing focus if necesary)

The character is still in process of development as you can see.The focus is there to just help with mana while I think what to do since I still got points to spare.I was thinking spellweaving but dont seem all that interesting to me.What would I need to raise to allow me to defend myself semi decently?Im aware i cant expect to tank stuff like a warrior but I dont want to run around with a big target-practice square in my head
,just some basic defense that works.
Does a template like that has potential for champs-Doom etcs?

Sorry if my questions look redundant but im quite ignorant on magery department.
Thanks a lot offhand for your time

If it's strictly for PvM, adding spellweaving on it would be helpful.

I would suggest scrolling your characters out a bit. Obviously if you're new, you won't be able to afford higher level scrolls, but this should be doable:

110 magery
110 eval
115 spirit speak
105 necromancy
115 spellweaving
115 meditation
50 chiv (for remove curse) or focus (for more regen)

You don't have resisting spells, but you should be fine PvMing if you know what you're doing. Just use some swords of prosperity for defense. Gets you the defense and 200 free luck.

I forgot to mention, necromages are very powerful in teams both in PvP and PvM. For groups just use wraith form and wither. For everything else, you have your corpse skin and high damage fire spells. Word of death big bosses at the end and you'll be doing loads of damage.

poster above has covered basics well. I use my necro/mage in doom and champ spawns and he does very well.

A good spell for learning player to magery is protection, mainly used if your fighting mobs or in fel but is good for new mage while learning as well. Though you do loose your fc/fcr ability it will allow you to cast while being hit and you dont get disrupted, once you feel more comfortable with your mage and his abilities I would take back off but till you get a handle on magery it would be good to be able to always heal/cure safely
