Publish 66 Constitutes a Pretty Significant Nerf to Pets in PvP

Well folks, publish 66 might well turn out to the the biggest nerf to tamers in pvp since publish 16 in 2002. Not only are we going to see a lot more bards in pvp, but we are going to be seeing a lot more swamp dragons with barding, with their 20% damage reduction. The next few months will tell the tale.

I'm confused... how are the bard and swamp dragon changes nerfs to tamers?

I think barding reduction only works for none PvP dmg. When a dragon is flagged in PvP they are PvP dmg (which is why you can only AI a super dragon for 35)... this also means dragon barding dmg reduction doesnt not apply.

There will be more discoder running around for sure but who cares... it's PvP not PvP&P (or in some cases PvP&P&P or PvP&P&P&P&P&P)

Well my theory was that there will be a lot more bards and swampies in pvp now. I was under the impression that the 20% damage reduction applied to pets. If it doesn't then the swampy armour isn't an issue. We'll have to see what happens with bards.

Either way, we'll adjust the way we always have.

I must have completely missed the part about why there would be more swampies in pvp, over faction horses and other things?

Because a swampy can have over 250 hit points, and the resists on a good quality swampy just went from this:

35 27 35 28 40

To this with exceptional verite barding on it:

80 63 61 63 60

You take the time to train them up and you have the hardiest mount now available to a non tamer. Now of course, I'm always thinking like a tamer, so maybe no one else will even consider doing this. And I must admit, 750 verite ingots is a pretty steep price to pay for something that won't last more than a few days of heavy usage.

I haven't checked out what the resists would be like with iron barding. I'm going to do that right now:

67 48 50 48 52

So even with iron that's a pretty significant boost.

Swamp Dragons can have 180 HP.

Faction Horses are still going to be preferable because players can res them with 0 Vet.

dragon barding is now increasing the pets resists? I don't recall seeing that in the patch notes.

Dont forget to mention, that the damage reduction from swampies doesnt apply to pvp.

It was posted somewhere by the devs because it was dug up and posted in UHall. I don't know where it was found though. And the special materials bonuses apply as well, but not just once, dragon barding is considered to be five pieces of armour, so the bonus is applied five times.

about to head to work right now but would that reflect on the animal lore gump? maybe someone can check. i totally missed the part about verite ingots in the patch notes.

i roll with a swampy in pvp even though I have a faction horse. I just ninjalog if I die, they cant get my swampy. though recently I was faced with a tough decision; i was ganked 6 to 1 and the murder report screens were up. i could either give them counts or ninja to save my swampy. i gave them all counts while they gleefully killed Falcor.

Actually, you can kill the game without handing out the murder counts. You'll get the gumps again when you log back in. At least it seems to me that's the way it has worked with me.
