Problem with GM.

So, just returning to UO from 8+plus yrs of not playing, my memories of the GMs wasn't good but I was told that at least they say more than "I cannot help thee with that". Today I found that to be true.... But the outcome was even more frustrating than the old school responses. I dropped a villa down to a custom plot, and in the process my arcane bookshelf was not put in the moving crate, and is stuck... When I try to unlock it, it says Im not the owner... I stated this in my help request, but the GM responded with a link on how to use the moving crate! What a load of... ya know.

I waited a hour for that? A hour when there was only 10 people in line... now Im at 12 as i sent another request. It's not like i didnt explain the problem but he choose to skim through my request, not really reading it and just replied to the word moving having no idea what anything else said in my request.

If anyone here can help me, Id be in debt to you.. the shelf blocks me from designing my custom.

Just got my second reply! Same god damn reply... linked me to the moving crate info. If this is howin game support is, than Mythic, you'll prolly lose this customer when my time runs out.

Well my problem is solved, but the GM who originally responded is still a worthless human. A 2nd gm came and fixed in within seconds! Why would the first gm be so lazy as to not show up to fix this problem?

I think that not all GM's are fully trained for UO and most likely are also GM's for EA's other online games including POGO, so most likely the first one typed your problem into their database of solutions and it came up the solution is in the knowledge base - direct player to website. It seems like the GM quality took a big dive shortly after the release of ML.

This is unfortunately usually the case. If I have a problem, it usually takes posting the same thing 3-4 times to get it actually resolved.

They usually give you a link to their (utterly useless) FAQs which give you completely irrelevant information about other games.

Keep in mind, many (most? all?) GMs have never played UO. Too bad. Was cool when GMs would randomly participate in game, assuming the form of an invulnerable daemon, invoking a plague of rats, etc.

I'd overlook a multitude of abuses of power for a little more personal interaction with the support staff.

totally :thumbup1:

as much as I appreciate GM's and the people behind the scenes, I'm convinced ALL first pages get canned responses. I have no proof of this except for the fact I haven't SEEN a single GM since returning to the game. It was great seeing the EM's and Mesanna recently ingame, I miss seeing the GM's too ! :)

Exactly.

And when paging for a GM, it is important that you word your situation carefully to avoid jst this stuation. Using words like "stuck", "lost", etc. will result in poor responses. As, apparently does "moving crate". Go figure.

You probably got a GM of Warhammer online or DaOC that had to change games and was in shock to see the differnce in the games. :p

This :thumbup1:

I haven't yet had a GM not help me with a problem and I think its because I try describe my problem as clearly as possible.

The last time I needed a GM? I had to call 2 yesterday, Once for a chest stuck under my house and another for Vet rewards I couldn't redeed as I wasn't old enough on the owner account.

I hope you sent in FEEDBACK about your experience. This is one of the few, limited ways that EA might even remotely consider giving the GM a bit more of an education. If enough people complain about the same GM then perhaps something might get done? I know its a long shot but it doesn't take more than a few minutes to bang out some feedback on the keyboard and fire it off.

Couldn't hurt to send feedback when you get a "good" GM as well. It is called "feedback" not "complaints" :p and I don't see any good reason why it should be limited to complaints. Maybe if/when they know who is doing a good job, they can have those people train the others on what to do. ;)

Someone else had posted the link in one of the other threads about GMs, and so here it is again:

Welcome back.

In-game customer service has always been one of UO's weakest points, and things haven't gotten better on that score.

GM's are I beleave not as they once were. Due to the increesed problems of the past set of gm's from the Austin move (when GM's were worth their salt) to redwood shores in which 90% of them didnt go with.
Ea hired more at Redwood shores to replace. They turned out to have a FEW(pfft) bad eggs, costing EA/UO player losses ($$), due to (cough) tampering with game. I wont say names but we lost the actual GM's when Mythic took uo in the move inhouse on east coast. I beleave now the GM's who send the caned response is mythic staff who happen to get pulled in to answer when UO needs its Q empted. Its rare to see one show up as a GM in red robe.

As to your problem: word to the wise for next time any deed item you place wether it was reward or player made item (elvin forge example) you must first take them down there is some safe guards in house remodel but it dont always catch them for placement in crate. You made a slab all you needed to do was make floors on the layers you had then put tps to that floor. Set (pay for changes) and go up get your book case.

A few months ago, one of my characters had a problem: When I removed all my armor, physical resist was showing -15, with no buffs or debuffs. I paged a GM and said that my character's physical resist was stuck at -15. I got a canned response about the "help stuck" option. I paged again and carefully avoided using the word stuck, and an actual GM showed up in minutes and reset my character's resists. I mentioned it to some guildmates and friends, and they said NEVER use the word stuck, or you'll get that same canned response, no matter what else you say.

I believe that words like "stuck" and "moving" don't even go into the GM queue, as such. No matter what else the help request says, you have to wait your turn like everybody else, but, when your turn in the queue finally comes, if any keyword like "stuck" is anywhere in your help request, the system just diverts it into an autoresponder, kind of like an e-mail autoresponder, and it just spits out that canned response. As proof, even the most cursory glance at my original help request would have alerted any even semi-literate GM with a 3rd grade education that I wasn't stuck in the game. But an autoresponder program isn't smart enough to understand that there is a difference between a resist being stuck and a player being stuck. It just looks for the word stuck.

We really need to make a list of all of the words to NOT use in a help request for GMs, and put it in a sticky here on Stratics. It would save us endless hours of repeatedly paging GMs, and getting multiple canned responses that don't have anything to do with the reason that we paged the GM, before we get the wording right to slip past the autoresponder and actually get a real response.

I had the same issue with resists due to Wraith forms negatives staying after it was removed.

I tried GM's several times also with no response...

In the end I pmed I believe it was CatHat and she took care of the problem for me.
