Problem joining general chat channnel on one character

One of my characters cannot join the chat channel. When I click on the icon (EC), select General and type message followed by enter, I get the message: "You must click on the icon to join a channel."

Not sure how to fix this. I searched this forum and got an error.

Assistance / advice would be appreciated.

i have this issue after playing an hour almost everyday
