Pretty bummed about UO atm

You can play and still have fun! DO NOT let some asshat take something away from you because they choose to cheat. I proved to myself that cheaters CAN be beaten.

Friday night or early Saturday morning (it was midnight) I was mindin my own business running quests in the abyss and getting lost. A aquaintance of mine suddenly says over global chat "OMG! This guy is hacking into my house does anyone want to come see this cause I'm not believing this shyte!" So I get over to his Fel house and he quickly friends me. We are sitting in his house and he's telling me that a well known asshat keeps coming in his house and killing him. The house is a private, BTW. Well suddenly said asshat appears in the house and kills both of us. My friend goes SEE! So off we sprint to find a healer. When we return I check the friends list and the asshat in question isn't on it nor is he accessed. Well he reentered the house twice more and kills us so we shout to anyone that was awake we could use a little help.

We tried to boot the guy from the house but he kept coming back. I chased him down outside but he was also running a speeder so he was a little hard to catch. Meanwhile a guildmate of my friend shows up on a sampire, this person has some pvp expirence but admits they aren't that good. Well neither am I but hey I can try!

Well my sister been watching us fight this guy over my shoulder. She goes that's it I wanna piece of that asshat! So my sister the TERMINAL TRAMMIE comes stomping into fel, dragon in tow and NO friggin clue how to pvp what so ever!! LOL My friend co-owners sis to his house and they both check the co-owner list...nope asshat ain't co-ownered. Another trammie comes over with a rune beetle and a dread warhorse, then a mage with faction horse, and a second sampire. Its now 7 to 1 in our favor!!


Well mister smarty pants asshat try to sneak over in wolf form ....LMAO we jump on him like a puppy on pork chop! He took off running and we gave chase, Damn lost him. Well the third time he came to the house he came inside and we were ready for him! He high tailed it outside where sis sicced her Draggy hidden from his veiw on him. Two draggys, the dread, the Beetle, the faction horse, two Sampires and I all beating on him! Our mage friend had figured out he was vunerable to paralyze. We killed him!!

The sound of WOOT WOOT UR DEAD CHEATER rang joyously through Fel! We killed him 4 more times!! Yeah he killed us a few more times too.

Point is with all his stupid cheats and hacks all it took was a bunch of pissed off players with relatively little pvp skill, but the determination to do something and the heart to stay in it and fight!

Good does triumph over evil and my second grade teacher was right "Winners never cheat and CHEATERS NEVER WIN!"

Morgaine when you quit you're letting the asshats win....NEVER LET THE ASSHATS WIN! You are better than them! Stand up girl! Fight and don't back down!!

So for EA its win, win. They keep as many subscribers as they can and they save on labor costs.

How do they win if the game, because of widespread cheating left be, looses subscriptions, and dies out ?

I mean, a product which could maintain revenues eventually gets a majority of players disgusted to have enough of playing it, not only, the Company by not fixing the cheats does not exactly gain the best reputation among players (consumers) who dislike playing among cheaters and they would "win" ?

I am confused as to me it looks quite different........

Paps, on the other hand, it looks like the Trammies had a lot of fun too. Imagine that, both sides of this eternal split in the player base, having fun together.

And I'll bet you that that PKer ended the evening thinking that "all" Trammies aren't so bad after all.

For me the biggest problem isn't "cheating" as it is now, it's that not enough effort or commitment was made to prevent rampant cheating earlier on in the life of UO.

The more you let something of this nature go, the more it becomes prevelent, the more it becomes "accepted". This is entirely why we have so many examples of what people today consider to be ramapant and widespread cheating.

I simply think successive developers have not made prevention of cheating enough of a priority over the years. If the current team are working hard on ways to eradicate cheating, then all credit to them. It's a task that's been passed onto them and arguably a more difficult and delecate one to resolve.

I personally, have never used any of the 3rd party applications available (legal or otherwise) over the years. People have often praised what they can "acheive" using them, but for me, it defeats the object "playing" of the game.

I hear ya.

I may be wrong but I think that most subscriptions are for people who play in Tram mainly. So they really aren't exposed to the really annoying PvP bugs/cheats/hacks.

As for scripting and duping it does affect them but not quite in the same manor as in PvP. So they put up with it more than the typical PvPer.

My opinion is that it does, because it devaluates the worth of the time that they spend in the game.

The key is considering "time" as an asset.

When players decide to do a chore, be it mining, chopping wood, collecting for Library or Museum items and other activities that are "scriptable" so to speak, players are sacrificing part of their playing time for the production of those items.
This time, since they spent it doing those activities instead of doing something else, has a "worth".

BUT, if those same activities can then be scripted overnight, or while one is at school or at work or watching TV which means, doing something else, the time spent is at no cost since the player was not actually spending it, but the script was (player was doing something else in the meanwhile). Figuratively, it is like a magic button that when pushed gives the player using the script resources, Library/Museum collectibles and so forth with hardly any effort, cost or time spent. Sort of like an IWIN button.....

So, whatever was produced by the script and basically at no cost can easily be traded at a much lower value than the same item produced by a player actually doing that chore, personally.

What this all means, is that scripting devaluate and a whole lot the time of all those players who do not script making it not worth for them to engage in all those activities which are scriptable.

And the game looses out because we then have entire areas of the game basically becoming under direct control of scripters since most other non scripting players will find them not worth their time.

Yes, as I see it, scripting or duping hurts the game just as much as PvP cheats.

That is why all of them should be addressed, and the sooner the better, IMHO.
Though, and this is the sad thing, I have lost count of the years I have been waiting for such a fix in the game.........

I have a G-15, UO Assist but do not use UO Cart (didn't use UOAM either). So I'm with you on that, however UOKaiser has a point about us as well ... in some folks eyes we are the cheaters! <shrug>

To them I say this ... the G-15 is used by some of the Devs. UOA is approved for usage and costs a 1-time fee.

UO Cart is well-done and replaces UOAM which was approved. The author has gone to great pains to insure it meets with acceptance and is allowed by EA/Mythic as a valid 3rd-party app.

I have yet to run across an actual cheater in all my years of playing UO (since '96 or '97, forget which). I play on Atlantic, too, which is the highest population server.

I remember the whole deal with speed hacking from years and years ago. It was a pretty inefficient hack going by what I found researching, and it seemed to be rarely used. Most people accused of speed hacking simply had good connections (dial up was prominent then, so the few lucky individuals with cable internet were accused often).

But it seems like cheats these days have come a long ways. They seem mostly focused on making the character perform a certain routine (I.E. recall strip mining). Though, you can pretty much make a macro that does this with the EC if you know how to set it up right. Or use UOA to do it. Just seems pointless to cheat.

As for the PvP cheats, can't comment much on that as I never seen anybody use one. Then again, the vast majority of people I play with are very honest and honorable people (yaaaay RP community!) so things are just generally more pleasant.

With all this strip mining and what not, there is such a huge glut of resources that if everyone stopped mining for an entire year straight, we still wouldn't run out of resources. It is pretty much pointless to mine at all anymore. I mean just how many ingots do you really need anyway?

I'm frustrated thats all. I am however taking a break, which I think I was technically doing already.

Quitting would be the easy way out and I dont quit, at anything. Anyone who has argued with me, knows well enough, I dont quit

Something does need to be done tho. Get rid of crap like what I saw or allow the whole UO player base to do it. I would rather it be gotten rid of.

With all this strip mining and what not, there is such a huge glut of resources that if everyone stopped mining for an entire year straight, we still wouldn't run out of resources. It is pretty much pointless to mine at all anymore. I mean just how many ingots do you really need anyway?

Alot!!!. Just used at least 500k of iron for bod collection this month and at least 60k each for the others not sure the numbers but i know I went through alot of deeds. Not to mention the extra i need to use to sell at 1k,2k-5k-10k-60k deeds each to keep my venders stock and to contribute to the guild pool. Also any that I need for my self to craft though that shouldn't be more than 60k deed of iron and a few of the others. Also to make some relics will need some color ingots. Few more to give out and help my fellow community. Then the rest to save for rainy day. Not to mention gems need many gems to sell and to try to craft that 5%swing speed increase with nothing else on it wow im going through alot. Also granite to make stone armor but I don't use it much so i just sell the stone. Others mine regular jewels i do that once in awhile faster to buy them though. Also many people are trying for crystaline blackrock in termur. I do a once in a while recall over there see If I strike something but prertty dangerous. Yea we need alot!!!

Honestly I use to do the Universal Face Plant on Chesapeake PvP thread. I cannot count the times I have had to unapprove a pvpers post because they posted a picture of their own character with a cheat program running in the Task bar. They basically ratted themselves out but my job as a mod is to not allow pictures to be posted of such programs.

I actually killed a Miner that was in a EM cave under bucs Den. Then above me I heard "Forward one" "Forward one" "Forward one" "Forward one" "Forward one" "Forward one" "Stop" "Kal Vas Flam" "Forward one" "Forward one". And she was standing on the land HAHAHA.

So I killed her as well and was going to post the screen shot and not accuse her of cheating but say "I killed her because she was ordering me around on where I could walk." But I decided against it and deleted the pictures.
