Just got an email from pogo.com ok opt-out easy enough to do, then it says I will be opt'd out of all EA emails ok thats fine also,
But then I noticed the header had my UO login name instead of my email acct name that is not fine what the hell do they have for a brain ophiodian feces.
already been hacked once this year from an email from WOW my son opened on my computer (its a good thing they didnt know much about UO) and now EA puts half my login out on the web that really pisses me off

not saying you're wrong at all. But did you even happen to sign up for pogo and use your UO account name?

I would go absolutely ape sheet if my account name was given out with my email addy to some idiotic sales company/list. No way they would do this ... no way.

it's always a great idea to put your game accounts each on different e-mails, and just forget that e-mail for a while. many years ago I did that with each of my UO accounts, and haven't logged into those e-mails since then. Only way anyone is getting my accounts is from a 'real' hack *crosses fingers*

I got the same email. Account name in the subject line.

This is unacceptable for EA to do this.

what they need to do is remove the "forgot password" link, if you actually forget, then you gotta call them. Almost 100% of everyone who was hacked, lost their account via someone taking their email and simply requesting the account name, and then the password it seems.

Just changed my info on my account and at the bottom I noticed (share my info with select EA partners) the little box was checked it no longer is, and I know I didnt check it so it must be by default.
So went and checked other accts changed emails and noticed the box was checked on all three accts, I may be over fifty but I know I didnt check any thing on those acct. So I would suggest if you have time to check your accts

Your UO account is the Pogo screen/login name. I am in the same situation.

Thank you Rumil.

I got the email also. Aggravating part is I have a separate account setup for Pogo with a different email address. But Pogo taps into the UO account info and uses that one instead. WTF is coming next?

I just received the same email from pogo, with my UO login name. I went and checked my UO account and found one box checked (the first box, but not the second box about sharing info with EA partners). I unchecked it. Needless to say, I'm not happy with EA right now.

I received a pogo email as well, and I do have a pogo account, but the email header had one of my UO account name not the pogo account. The only thing linking the two other than name and address would be the credit card on file. With the recent account hackings, I find it unacceptable as well as unprofessional to send an email to customers addressing them by their log-in name. How hard is it to run run a simple program that would have pulled the first or last name associated with that account. If your bank sent you emails with the header "Bank Account number 121212121, great news just for you", people would be throwing a fit.

I understand that they are probably wanting to market their other products and Pogo is a pretty popular online game site, but I have to wonder who came up with and reasoning behind the idea of sending emails out addressed to your log-in name. Was it because they thought an email address "Bob Smith, just for you" was to blah and wouldn't be read or mistaken as spam or phishing email, but if you addressed it "GodofUO1212, just for you", you would know it had to be great (by the way Bob Smith and GodofUO1212 are fictious names...I'm not that stupid...I think).

Exactly.

To get into a UO account you need:
1.) Account name
2.) Password
3.) The last 8 digets of the credit card on file
4.) E-mail address
With this in the wrong hands your UO account is history.

IF this e mail fell into the wrong hands* it contains 2 of the required fields to get to your account.
* IF they got this e-mail they could easyly have gotten your credit card # (UO asks for this 8 diget number to recognize you as owner, its one of the good things they do but its not perfect)

By the way be very carefull buying anything from a game store with your credit card. Reciently a friends dad purchased from a major game store at the mall some codes(wow) and games paying with his card. He was carefull to get the reciept and card but a young person who was working there had seen the card the clerk placed on the register. Subsequently the person memorized the name and last 8 of the credit card. They striped the account and messed it up bad (good thing Bliz is wonderfull about fixing this). Take care who is watching your use of your cards.

One reason we may be finding that checkbox on our account checked that asks if we want to get EA promotional info is because of the beta process. If you guys remember, in order to be notified you were accepted into beta for SA and probably ML too, you had to have that enabled. Now we find they have used that for another purpose which is within their rights, but using our account name is over the line.
