the UO guide said 0 taming to tame a battle chicken. I am failing repeatedly. What am I missing?

lol- that damn guide lies!!! I had to use a number of collars and multiple attempts to tame this thing. Yet, It never went vorpal either, as it said it would. Finally got it tamed though. My advice for anyone else- have s small supply of collars. I went through like 4 or 5 before it tamed.
