Please open up the "new" lands for castles and keeps

I was wandering around Luna and Umbra checking out the vendors in the area and I came across a very large area where no housing is allowed at all. This got me to thinking why hasn't this place been opened up to housing.

Also why hasn't Luna/Umbra lands been opened up to castle and keeps? Before UO's plug is pulled or before I quit(for the last time) I would like to have a shot at owning a castle or keep without having to shell out over $1000+ in real cash to get to have one.

Castles are an irresponsible waste of land. Sure, as a player, I would like one. BUT, a castle is 32x32 compared to an 18x18 max customizable plots. And you can't even use a good portion of it.

That was the reason EA didn't allow castles and keeps in the first place.

Ahem. Too many keeps and Castles on Siege at least in the old lands. Keep other areas as they are IMHO.

And basically, more castles = less IDOCs. hehe.

Castles are a HORRIBLE design and a huge waste of space, but an 18 x 18 just does not have the storage a Castle does.

Lets face it, the game turned Item based, we all collect a lot of stuff these days. We could use more storage. ( yes I have cleaned out a TON. BOD's take a lot of room, while collecting for Larges & other stuff)

I know the storage probelms used to tax the servers, houses with no storage limits and a much large player base. Well those are not problems any more.

If not Castles or Keeps, then let us design a 20 x 20 with Keep storage, and/or a 22 x 22 with Castle storage? Or something along those lines.

Yep. Any and every day. I like my borg invasion fleet.

I remember many times running along and stopping dead in my tracks... only to have the castle that I had run into appear later... they are just too big for the system as designed. Not to mention the wasted space, etc.

Castles arent all that hard to get on most shards. I have placed 9 of them myself in the last 5 months. It does take a little work, but not all that much when your talking about the largest house you can get. I wish I had known someone was willing to pay $1000 for them, I have been selling them for 100 to 200mil each. I have a very nice Fel Castle forsale on Napa right now. Will take the first 175mil for it. And only asking that much because of the great spot it's in, otherwise I would take 100mil.

Just keep looking for them idocs with open areas around it, and place your plot next door. Then drop and place. Easy as 123.

Regardless of whether they open it up to castles, I agree that all that open space where housing is not allowed is just a waste. There's no cool spawn in that area, it's just a large mass of worthless, unused land. Open it up!

$1000+ RL Cash? I play on one of the top 3-4 busiest shards and I paid 200m for a felucca castle and have been involved in trades (myself, my friends) for about a half dozen keeps during the past year all priced in the 20-50m range located in both trammel & felucca. Two of the keeps I placed myself (again, I'm on a busy shard), though I've never been lucky enough to place a castle. On a less busy shard, I was able to find 3 locations for keeps (trammel & felucca) in about 10 minutes of searching.

On many shards, keeps sell for well less than that; and there have been numerous castles on a variety of shards for sale through broker sites for less than $250 RL. Prime locations can sell for more (sometimes lots more) gold or RL cash, but that's the way prices go when lots of people want the same thing.

So regardless of whether castles & keeps are good or bad (plenty of debate in this thread already), there's no need to exaggerate about the price. RL cash is not required to obtain either of these structures on virtually any shard, and a basic keep can be had for less than 25m on most, a basic castle for less than 250m on most (with special locations going higher).

I want the Keep actually. Because it would really fit my main character well (rp wise) if I could put her into one. I couldn't care less about the extra lock downs/storage space.

Many moons ago, I sold my castle for 75 mil on atlantic.
Course, back then, a mil was worth $20 each!!!

Castles and keeps are nice to have in just tram and fel (yes i know there were 5 given out in malas) It makes the original lands of uo unique, and keeping to what uo originally was.
In Regards to the "unused housing space," think of it like open space around cities or towns, you wouldnt want central park to be bulldozed for apartments would you?
If there was to be any type of different housing in the new lands, i would be happy to see something new, not massive, but unique, maybe a 22 by 22 non or semi customizable "unique building."
And like others have said, if you Really want a castle, there are plenty of shards where one is not hard to get. Personally i prefer location, would much rather have a 14 by 16 by a gate, or on an island, or in a player run town, than some castle in the middle of no where. Heck, i even sold my abyss house because i really love the locations of my current houses, and didn't really want to give them up.

Yeah, I wouldn't advise taking info regarding an MMO from almost a decade ago as being relevant in any way today.
