As far as I know, this bug has been around since UO Day 1, and 14 years should be long enough to figure this one out. Cross a server line and you lose stats if you are wearing items with stat bonuses. The stat loss is significant, especially if you have a mage with min Dex.

So please... it's about time to fix this.

While I agree, I'm not sure this is a bug as much as it is simply a problem with having server lines.

This happens because they had to work around other bugs. Whenever your char changes servers (by changing facets, or just crossing a server line) your char basically undresses and redresses everything.

It's a bandaid we have had to live with cuz the devs always take the simple and quick way to fix things.

One would think there is a server big enough to contain all shards and all sub servers on one little corner of one of the drives. My phone has more memory and computing power, faster Internet and more complex architecture than the 1997 uo server. Completely agree with the OP. Reality is though that it does not really impede game play, and that game play has evolved to incorporate the effects of "server lines".

I actually compensate this bug while tallying up a suit. Make sure I have enough regns to get back up and running since I have alot of stm mana and hp increaces.

Thats actually a cloak of corruption. Much easier. Same idea. Set bandaids to heal every 4 secs and you have like 5 skills fly up.

There are lots of work-arounds for this bug, but it's still a bug. With the upcoming 71 patch screwing with Chiv and Divine Furry not fully replenishing stamina, it's going to hamper a few of my characters who use this as a primary means to get back lost stamina.

My dungeon thief/archer has only 10 Int, but +42 mana increase on armor. Recalling to dungeons leaves me with enough mana to cast Devine Fury once, and then wait for mana to replenish. Not to mention using bandages to "heal" myself after losing 30 hit points on the recall.

So, FIX IT ALREADY. If EA can't fix well known 14 year old existing bugs, don't give us new "features" to fix PvP.

So are you going to fund the complete recoding of the server architecture?

Nonsense statement by Aran. You could even emulate the servers and it would work better. Why would I fund this? Would you? Already stated that I work around it just fine. I think there are better ways to allocate resources.

It hasn't been around since day 1.

It is actually a bug fix. When you cross server lines your character info is transfered from one sub server to another subserver.
This is more like creating a new instance of your character than just moving your character.

In UOs past many bugs were exploitable because of this transfer between subservers. To resolve this I suspect they use this reinstance process, You character is recreated then his equipment recreated and equipped. Since the character and the items are separate objects and the stats granted from the items are not present without the items, its treated just like dressing the character for the first time so you temporarily lose all the added stats.

That's the cost of eliminating those exploits.

True but, this isn't 1997 anymore, the servers the game are hosted on should be able to manage the entire game and not break it into sub servers like was necessary years ago when it was more likely actually handing your character off from one machine to another. To put it in perspective, Today's mid-range servers have the same or more computing power than the Super Computers the US Military were using in 1997.

While at the time sub-servers were necessary, today they simply are not. Even a low end desktop today packs more punch than the dedicated servers of 15 years ago.

I really don't think its a bug. When you cross over a server line it takes off your clothes are redoes the stats. So if you have +strength on a ring a brac, when u cross the server line it brings it to your base strength then adds the bonus from your equipment meaning you have to regenerate the missing life/stam/mana.

I disagree, think load balance and bandwidth issues. A good example of this is when a LOT of people show up in Brit for a special event - most have experienced this, Massive Lag, that's the bandwidth part. They allotted for a certain amount of peak users, that's it, after that, lag comes and speed drops. Then add in all the Other players and their usage. To place it all on one server would take one hell of an expensive pipe, not counting the hardware.
Besides the gameserver, there's the OTHER servers: loginserver; webserver; NPC AI server; DB server

The webserver layer does alot of order verification, data compress/decompress,
data marshaling, protocol management, and redirecting data to the gameserver, etc..

It's just Not as simple as we'd like it - and a lot of it is economics. While they're all virtual, it still takes bandwidth and money. be glad it works as well as it does, and not a 30sec. delay at server lines.

I would look into how the server uses the database between sub servers for a fix...
