Please explain how to use a Golem to train melee

I got myself a golem, took it outside the guardzone, and started hitting it w/ a 100% poison weapon, but I didn't gain skill. Also, the crystal ball of skill training didn't register my attacks on it (yes, it was set to 'on').

Thanks in advance.

I lack the patience required to thwap a golem for gains, however, my understanding is you must be guilded and have the golem guard you.

have you brought up you fighting skill to 40.0 through new haven ? if you start from 0 it might not work...

but, unless you play siege, it really seems pointless to do that boring "pseudo-exploit"

the skill gains are fast enough... like 5 times how they were back before golems even existed...

you should have someone lore the golem for ya.
every golem has different wrestle and tactics and you will only gain good if you are within 20 points of its skill.

you can still gain outside of that 20 point window, but it will be slow.

hence why people have golems that have 50 skill, 80 skill and GM skill

that way you can train from 40 to 120.

Just curious, can you also train magery on a golem? I have a mage weapon butcher knife with 100% poison damage and wondered if that worked for training magery.
