Player-crafted woodchopping tools

What is the best player-crafter woodchopping tool?

Meaning...which one gives the most uses before breaking (bang for your buck).

I want to put tinkering on a soulstone but before I do I want to make a small stock of crafting tools

If you're talking about lumberjack, hatchet is the only tool made by a tinker, but you can use axes made by a smith too.

Technically any axe will work but I prefer hatchets, both for the lower weight as well as ease of making them with my tinkering skill and no forge required. My lumberjacking char is also the tinker so I can make the hatchets (as well as shovels for mining) in the field as I go.

With the bladed items, the uses don't seem to work like "exceptional tool" uses - i.e. with many tools you get a substantial bonus (when the RNG isn't being evil) over NPC crafted items of the same. From what I recall, axes and hatchets all seem to have around 100 - 150 uses regardless of where I get them.

I guess what I'm asking is...

Tinkers can make hatchets with approximately 100-150 uses.

Can Blacksmiths make some type of axe that might have say 200+ uses?

I don't think there is any difference, that is what I was trying to say. My smith created weapons, tinkered hatchets and knives, as well as the ones I get as monster loot or from NPC all seem to have about the same uses if used as a tool. I don't think I have ever had a bladed weapon with 200 uses (not saying it isn't possible I just don't recall ever seeing one).
