Plant PiGMent... Seriously?

The naming filter must go.

I cannot use the word "pigment" as in "plant pigment" because it contains the letters "gm" in succession.

Until you can program a proper filter, it's time for this to go. I can't use the word "assassin" or "compassion" on barkeeps. You can't be an "ambassador" in a guild. I mean... this is getting silly. But the epitome of silliness struck today with "pigment."

Please remove this.

I guess you are refering to guild titles and player names.

They should improve the filter and rely on people complaining about the names that get through.

One thing I have always found Bizarre is you cannot use "Smith" in the title.
you could at one time because I had that title but when i tried to make another one on a different shard, it said that "tile is disallowed". had to use Smlth with a lower case L for the i

If I'm truly "offended" by something then I should be able to filter it through the paperdoll.. but if my skin is a tad thicker than the tissue paper some folk have then seeing the word "assassin" shouldn't send me crying....

If you ask me some folk have taken the whole "offensive" thing WAY too far.... to the point of silly ridiculousness...

People need to grow up and quit using cheesy excuses to get someone banned because you don't know any better way to walk away or your sad because they beat you.

There is offensive and then there is "OFFENSIVE"..... I'm not saying that people should run around and be allowed to say racial or sexual slurs to people... or be derogatory or anything... but really if we need this much of a filter for things then how do we function in real life if we can't take some word in a game?

And don't tell me about the 12 or 9 year old playing because honestly... I don't think they should be... If they are they should be being MONITORED... With all the phycho sick-o's out there praying on kids letting them play a very adultish game without any supervision is just plain wrong. I've said for a long time I can't believe that no one has been arrested for soliciting a minor in WoW yet... You want offensive there are a ton of offensive things in that game.

Yup, my bartender cant say assassin. Thanks for the turning tip. I cant reach him from the front but at least he now has his side to the front.

Ya I hate the filter, there are times I want to name the shops and vendors names to items in game and I keep getting the message that is not allowed. Makes me so mad.

Instead of z's for s's, l33t speak, extra spaces, etc. you can use accented characters, (use the charmap util) for example :

If I remember correctly, UO is for mature players. Look at the language at the Luna bank. If they are not banning folks for cussing, why filter it? They built a filter into our doll so we could choose (as adults) what we see or don't see. Seriously? We're not actually going to throw "the card" down on the word "spooky," are we? THIS is the problem with language in general... people can find all kinds of things to get all worked up about, if we let them.

I mean, "folk," "people," and "kin" can also be offensive... "them folk did this," "those people are responsible," and "only kin like that do this sort of thing." At some point, we have to move past negative connotations that were used years and years ago and move into "Hey, the only reason a word has power is because we give it power."

Spooky? While you think "this one should be fairly obvious," to most people, the word "spooky" is a synonym of "scary," "frightening," or "freaky." You're also confusing the word "spooky" with the word "spook," which could have the negative connotation you allude to, OR could (and mostly does) mean, "a scary creature."

I mean, seriously.

Just take the toggle-filter and let IT do the filtering. Leave the filter out of game, and let people page on inappropriately named stuff. Every vendor knows its owner, so if someone names their vendor a variation of a particular word beginning with the letter "N," ban for that... But don't disallow legitimate players using legitimate words simply because the contain another word in their own word form.

I mean, Compassion is a Virtue, but good luck selling anything related to it.

And... not to put too fine a point on it, filters don't apply to books, so I can tell a tale filled with much more latent negative expression than I could ever put into the name of a vendor, and yet, there's nothing stopping me there.

You said it way better then I did. They give us Compassion and then don't let us use the word. Don't they see the irony in that? It's ridiculous. Oh and don't get me started on the book thing. Their have been some downright trashy, nasty stuff written in the books and tossed on the ground. OMG let's all freak out! No, you simply pick it up and toss it in the trash. Problem solved.

They solved that problem a long time ago. You're the only one who sees that text when you do that -- it doesn't broadcast to anyone other than the person handing the item to the vendor.

... and there are people out there who don't use english as a first language. I DO know what that "ass" is about, but on "poo" and "spooky" I am helpless.

I think there are different problems here. EA has to demonstrate that they took action against vulgar speech (UO is rated what? 12+?) - so such a filter might simply be some regulatory affair. I really don't think they care much about vulgarity, because if they would, I don't understand what is happening during eg an event.
