Question for you.. Is there a bonus when you hunt with 5 frenzied ostards? Do you get a pack bonus (damage dealt) with 2 or more? Anyone know what the bonus is?

Pets in Pack Damage Bonus
2 +25%
3 +50%
4 +75%
5 +100%

Frenzied ostards deal a great amount of damage if you have them in a pack. I tanked a skeletel lich during the halloween invasion content with my sampire and had my other acct on my laptop tearing the skele lich up. They do a sick amount of damage, and they hit pretty fast.

The only downside is they have low HP so you have to have something tank the damage, and they die fairly easy from area effect.

They are awesome with peace or disco tamers. I have both on my ossy char. Some creatures I'll use both for, some I just hit it with the disco and they kill fast enough it doesn't get more than one bite in, if that. Actually, I only cast greater heal on them once or twice when fighting Swoop and I don't bother peacing it, only disco.

You do have to fully understand that they will die some. Hard hitting creatures versus their low resists and low hp and you'll have a few deaths. Rez them and get them back in. They don't have magery so easy enough to retrain them and most of the time, mine get back up to GM just from finishing whatever I'm hunting.

I prefer my pack of hellcats to a pack of Frenzieds.

Frenzieds:

25-35 100% Physical Damage
125 max hitpoints
170 max str
30 / 15 / - / 25 / 25 max resists
Hit fast
Required Taming: 77.1

Large Hellcats:
10-32 75% Physical 25% Fire Damage
135 max hp
185 max str
35 / 40 / - / - / 15 max resists
Hit fast and breath fireballs.
Required Taming: 89.1

Also heres some other pack animals to compare:

Dire Wolves:
20-32 100% Physical Damage
125 max hp
125 max str
25 / 20 / 10 / 10 / 15 max resists
Hit pretty fast.
Required taming: 83.1

Hell Hound:
21-31 20% Physical 80% Fire Damage
125 max hp
150 max str
35 / 40 / - / 20 / 20 max resists
Hit pretty fast and have firebreath.
Required Taming: 85.5

These are the best 4 pack animals that required 1 slot. I also love my hellcats cause they come in normal red, bright red and pink! I have a pack with all colours :D.
I also wish they would give lava lizards pack bonus cause i want a pack! They are sexy beasts!

Anyway hope this helps

Hell Hound:
21-31 20% Physical 80% Fire Damage
125 max hp
150 max str
35 / 40 / - / 20 / 20 max resists
Hit pretty fast.
Required Taming: 85.5
Hell Hounds also have fire breath.

A guildmate and I just GM'ed his pack of hounds yesterday and took them to eat some Swoop. With my greater dragon tanking, I was lucky to do a third of the damage he did on the discorded bird. It was impressive. I have seen folks run with a pack of scorpions too, they can infect with greater poison.

One Pet i think youve all underestimated is the beloved Scorpions.

With Pack instinct they hit hard fast and DP Usually very quickly!

I've never trained up a pack of scorpions, but their base damage is considerably lower than frenzies. They certainly won't hit as hard as a frenzy, but the poison would be very useful in dealing with casters, because the AI would make them keep trying to cure :)

with a scorpion you're looking at an avg adjusted dmg around 40. Frenzies avg as high as 78.

My little Seige tamer, whom I really need to work more, uses a pack of scorpions. Mainly because I can tame and control them quite well with her current taming level. They do fairly well, and I like the poison.

The other pack I have, is a hell kitten pack (the small hellcats). OMG they are so fun and cute to use even if they don't do the damage of the other types. I use them for eating Cu Sidhe and and normal Dragons (they laugh at the fire breath, it only does 1 point to them and their mega fire resist).

I've been thinking of making a bear pack, just because I think they would be a great different thing to use. And chickens need pack instinct. I'd sooooo have a chicken pack as soon as that went in.

Does it work based on controll slots or number of pets?

Some questions:

If your riding a fenzied ostart, will the other 4 still get double damage?

If you have 2 fire steeds, do they each do +25% or +50% (controll slot question)

Do the pets need to be attacking the same monster, or even fighting at all? or can you have 4 ostards stay back and have one fight with double damage?

Anyone ever try imps? They can double flame strike, and then pack instincts...

I love scorpions, they are my favourite animal, i have a pet one IRL in my bedroom. I havnt really had a fully trained pack but an untrained pack just never seemed to do enough melee dmg, so do they hit alot harder in a pack of 5? I want a pack of every pack animal but not enough stable slots :(

Yeah i must of forgot to write hell hounds have firebreath, added it in.

I love bears too, i was thinking of making a pack of 2 grizzerlies, 1 polar, 1 black and 1 brown. That would be fun :).

Imps used to take 1 control slot which was awesome using 5 of them, but then a patch came in that bumped them up to 2 slots so can only have 2. As far as im aware though pack instinct increases their spell dmg too.

The small hellcats are cool too, they have immense dex and hit speed and like 90 max fire resist which rocks :D.

Just not enough stable slots for all these cool pets! *Screams*

I believe they all have to be fighting together to get the pack instinct.

pack instincts work based on the sum of all compatible pack instincts on the creature.

For example, 3 hell hounds would be 50% dmg (PI3)

2 fire steeds would be PI 4 (75% dmg), because each steed has 2 compatible pack instincts.

2 fire steeds and a summoned imp would give the fire steeds PI 5 and the imp PI 3
