Easier to click link. But I must also say WOW...If you give your char name and EA e-mail address to someone in game.. You could get mugged. You, as always stated should have a Separate e-mail for your EA account, that is NEVER given out or used for any other reason.

Yikes...the Baja EM had people email them before for a deco contest, but it's not like anyone else had access to the emails. This sounds pretty poorly conceived/executed.

I heard about that in some random conversations. Best thing you could do is have your UO Email account separate than any other email you use regularly.

The EM should use the same regulations as EA/Mythic as they are at least in some way representing that company. I think it is a poor judgement call on the EM's part but an even worse one on the players behalf if they actually send an e-mail that is connected to their account(s).

I was at that event... the Pacific thread is WAY over exaggerating. And the people who posted that thread were griefing during the entire start of the event, anyway, not surprised at ALL to see them griefing after. The EM said we only had to supply our emails if we wanted a mass email to know when the event was over (we could've opted not to), instead of running around with no clue it was done. And then we put our character names in a bag we couldn't grab things from, to register... but someone started to delete entries, so the EM took away or deleted the entire bag after 10 seconds or so. Then she had us re-do it and hand it to her individually.

The mass emails were really helpful though. I hope they do it more in the future! And when I got the email it didn't list everyone elses' email... it was kept private somehow.

And we supply emails on forums and other websites all the time that people can see. It's not a big deal... I for one didn't give my UO Acc email, so I don't really care! Not that anyone would be able to hack my password, anyway xD

I was there too.

Just as our EMs were being griefed in-game last night they are now being griefed on the boards here too.

I try to attend as many of the EM events as possible and the Pacific Event Moderators are both doing an outstanding job given the limited resources that have been given them.

I could see it being a problem if it was 'account name and email address'. But 'character name and email address' is harmless.

They sound similar when you say them, though, so I can see how people might get worked up over it. It puts up those warning bells and tricks the mind a bit.

Post your e-mail address that is attached to your UO account here then. That is if you don't see any problem with it getting into other players hands by accident.

The point is regardless of who was disrupting the event there should be no time during UO game play that any player should be asked to give email address attached to his or her account. It doesn't matter if it's voluntary or not. There are too many ways that could go bad for someone.

I use a completely different email for billing -- just like how I use a completely different username and password for my paypal. I wouldn't have a problem supplying my email for every day use. In fact, it's on my profile :)

Of course people usually use my Stratics email, haha.

Umm. I think your misunderstanding what happened. They asked for an email... not the account email. And you didn't have to give it to them. My guildy didn't... he just gave his char name. You only gave your email if you wanted to get notification of when it was done.

This is especially dangerous for people who have their character name as their email password.

rofl!!! It might just be the ultimate password. Unbreachable. Because surely no one would guess something so beautifully obvious

I take back what I said if the players couldn't access the email addresses. Sour grapes are pitiful indeed.

A character name isn't a really big issue. Everyone sees your character name while you're playing :p

I too also keep my account email separate and never give it out. If you don't have a separate email, spend 1 minute and make one through google, yahoo, etc. Then problem solved! Asking for email and character name = no risk!

LoL yeah...those people shouldn't be allowed to operate a computer. The OP is getting all worked up over some "voluntary" request that people SHOULD BE smart enough to decide upon for themselves. The emails were sent out using a hidden contact list. CHILL!

Well it's good to raise the alarm occasionally to keep people on their toes I think.

After reading the other thread I can guess that the same person who always wins these events won this one also.

He is the alpha male of Pacific so it's probably mostly a bit of jealousy from those lesser males who didn't win.

(Sorry Richard, I was asleep, but then, even if I had been awake, I only give my email to Men, so you would still have been **** out of luck.)

:(

It would be awesome if the EMs were given some sort of shardwide messaging system.

I'd recommend that they advise all participants in future events to open UO's global chat feature, Chat on the UO toolbar.

Global chat takes up too much space when in fullscreen mode, but minimized it takes up a tiny space and if you get a private message it turns red.

I am not sure if the minimized chat button turns red for global messages.

There are also private or conference channels, so perhaps all participants could join a conference channel just for the event? Surely the chat button would turn red for any conference message?

If not perhaps the Devs could tweak chat a bit to make it useful for the EMs to use at future events.
