"If you feel my agenda is incorrect. Page some one. Do not bring that to Siege. Selling and buying faction points is way wrong."- Kelmo

Far as I know someone posting to buy faction points with in game currency IS NOT against the TOS. If I am wrong please correct me. If I am right then kelmo way overstepped.

Seems to me that this is the same thing if I were a mod and locked any threads about smokebombs transactions just because i thought smoke bombs are ghey! Think about folks!

agreed.

I know discussing mods actions are frowned upon, but i feel sometimes it needs to occur.
The locking of any thread that doesnt break any tos agreement only because one doesnt agree with the subject doesnt seem to be fair. It seems to be based off personal agenda or personal beliefs and is something that has no place with someone of higher authority.

I DONT LIKE TAMERS BUT IF I WAS A MOD I WOULDNT LOCK EVERY THREAD THAT HAS BUYING MARE OR SELLING GREATER DRAGON IN IT....

he just not a good mods... :(
I generally think he is a good mod but tends to be a bit biased. This is one of those cases.

His job is to insure we can carry on a discussion within the parameters of the TOS which is a boundary he overstepped in this instance. I fully expect a childish lock, infraction, or possible temp ban for starting this thread but I am right. He knows it, you all know it, and I know it.

Whether Kelmo's given reason was right or wrong, his instinct was right. The thread needed to be locked, the only way that thread could go was an all out flame fest.

Because, let's face it, most of you agree with him on this. Buying faction points is lame and wrong.

I don't mind buying points...It doesn't bother me at all. In fact its great...gets you pvpin faster. The only people that have problems with it are you bluebies non factioners.

Soooo, there were no TOS infractions, nothing illegal was talked about. It does not matter if that's were it was headed. You both are out of bounds IMO.

I am NOT in factions thus I have no opinions about *buying faction points* instead of actual true kills, and could care less.

I am NOT a moderator either thus I have no opinions, about Mod actions regarding that thread.

HOWEVER, if I were a moderator, I might have removed that thread entirely making it 'vanish' entirely, just via my purely pragmatic non judgemental MOM sort of mentality.

Reading that thread reminded me of an in game system, that we once had which many of us enjoyed having in game, self included, til EA removed it entirely once they found out some folks enlisted friends or hired peeps, to kill...to collect their heads for bounty, for collecting in game gp !!

I oft read my own kids their MIRANDA RIGHTS !

YOU have the right to remain silent....publically posting things on Stratics forums just maybe could make the dev. team aware of something they did not have a clue about till PUBLICALLY posted, and that something just may in the future vanish in game, if some folks *might* maybe do something that was 'maybe' not [the original intent of collecting faction points] by the dev. team, legal or not, and then later on, it all may go the way of the DODO bird, just like the bounty system, went !

Just sayin' but what do I know ! rolleyes:

*nods* You are right. I will no longer interfere with a thread just because I personally believe it is terribly wrong. I offer my apologies. If you folks want to buy and sell faction points, it is not my place to interfere.

Time to flip that coin over to the other side.

I am always amazed when a new behavior comes to Siege Perilous.
I have taken note of this. I thank Tiberius and others to bring it to my attention.
The buying and selling of Faction points is an unintended behavior in the the game.
It is not against the Terms of Services.
But, all should have noticed that there is something wrong here.
I am sure that if the developers have not seen these posts they will.
I suggest a remedy to this unintended behavior.

Faction point should no longer be transferable.
One kill should move one point from the killed to the killer, this makes it
a zero sum proposition. This will slow down the unintended behavior of selling of faction points. If not, then some limitation of change of kill points could be considered for a given period of time.
The only other way to gain Faction points should be by killing allies of the other factions.

By the way folks, if you really intend not to gain attention to your activities, you know how to lay low.

I've always been curious as to the people who think they know what intended and unintended behavior is.

It's like the people who think macroing is unintended behavior, although apparently clicking your left mouse button 10000 times in succession is somehow intended behavior.

Curious.

You have no idea how faction points work. No one "gave him points" persay; they would just let him kill them for the one point you do get. Same faction transfers is the only way you can give points and it is not a 1-1 ratio; a bit is lost in the translation. It works entirely how it was designed to; it just so happens that faction rank now has value of sorts due to faction arties. Anyone with half a brain should realize that since value is involved that some form of economy surrounding said value would naturally arise.

Kelmo was well within his rights to find such a "black martket" points hustle unethical but that is where it should have stopped. that being said he admitted as much which is impressive.

I don't post often but let me see if I get the jist of this threat. There are actually 2 points here:

1. Kelmo locked a thread for a reason that some of you found dubious(sp). However, with the life that this thread has taken and his reply in it, is there merit to the arguement that he has a heavy fist?

2. The buying and selling of faction points - the pvp'rs know who you are. There was a term when I played heavily. I believe it was "NOTO"??

All behavior is intentional on someone's part. There is no such thing as unintentional behavior in human terms. To admit so would be to admit that someone else could control you. People can use different forms of persuasion, but no one is another's meat puppet.

I thought it was okay he locked it because it was going to get ugly anyway. He stopped the flame fest before it started. If any of you try to deny that it was not going to get ugly... well.... denial isn't just a river in Egypt! ;) Was it right to lock it in anticipation of it getting ugly? Probably not.... but he may have saved a few people from getting infraction points!

On second thought.... if a thread was locked every time it looked like it was going to get ugly, we'd have A LOT of locked threads!!

I remember a couple recent posts Kel let go farther than I thought they should. On this particular issue, I really couldn't care less. Yeah I am a blueby. But I also played factions with TnT. Its a game and not worth letting upset me. Its made a certain way, thats how we play it. I dont like that tamers can log in and out to get thier pets. But you better believe I do it all the time in Abyss. It could be better. But we play it anyways.

As a moderator, Kelmo is not allowed to get personally invested in the forums. Thats rather silly cause that would mean he didn't care, and he does. So this is what happens sometimes. He is a person like the rest of us. Lighten up and enjoy the game.

If he had handed out infractions or banned someone over this, I'd say thats going too far, but heading trouble off before it gets started isn't such a bad thing. Quite frankly, I think its pretty big of our mods to let this particular thread continue. Most probably wouldn't.

In any case, the mods of this forum cut us a lot more slack than we give them credit for. I think we can do the same for them once in a while. We're all human and as such, we all make mistakes from time to time.

I have seen mods overstep their boundaries, but this I don't feel is one of those times. It was a preemptive strike. Someone was going to flame Diablo into the floor.

first id like to thank the mods for letting us discuss this .

i think kelmo overstepped .we shouldnt lock threads because they MIGHT turn ugly.
i DO on the other hand give him props for maning up and appologizing.

the mods here do let alot slide . which is only appropriate for siege .
i appreciate the freedom we get.

if i feel strong enuf about something to risk an infraction iid like the right to say it . i know the rules . if things start turning ugly i think a friendly reminder would do . and if it doesnt ? ... let the infractions fly.

but wait for it . who knows we might be more civil than expected .
(hey it could happen)

I would agree if that was the case, except that you can read his intent in his locking message. He locked it because of an opinion that he held on how a part of this game should be played, not a violation of anything in the ToS. Kelmo enjoys pvp a little more than he lets on and he's gotta get it somewhere. It sure isn't going to be in game.

The only way to be perfect in everything you do is to do nothing at all. Kelmo cares more about Siege and these boards than anyone, so I can understand why he did what he did.

Kelmo apologized for it, and this discussion serves no further purpose.
